"Modestly priced and the best in the test. What more do you want, jam on it?" What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision magazine.
The Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 speakers are the latest in a very long line of award-winning compact speakers. In fact, the Wharfedale Diamond has been one of the most popular bookshelf speakers for almost 30 years now. The latest 10.1 benefits from a wide range of enhancements to both cabinet and drive units.
The cabinet maintains the flared sides of the previous 9.1 but is now stronger and more rigid due to improved construction methods and internal bracing. At the front, there is a new composite baffle with a piano gloss black finish. Taken as a whole, the new cabinet promotes a more accurate sound with a cleaner, tighter bass response.
The revised Kevlar bass unit is more securely fitted via an oversized flange that's held in place by six screws. The bass surround has also been improved to help reduce standing waves and blend the mid-range seamlessly with the treble. The tweeter unit has a revised surround that also seeks to offer a smoother response.
As before, twin rear ports improve the bass efficiency and help the 10.1 speakers to sound punchy yet still refined and transparent at lower frequencies. Rounding off this impressive speaker you'll find bi-wirable binding posts that have been offset to allow the use of thicker speaker cables.
If you want to hear the benefits of evolution rather than revolution, you need look no further than the impressive Diamond 10.1s. Thirty years in the making and still one of the best!

Stereo speaker Product of the Year 2009 "Modestly priced and the best in the test. What more do you want, jam on it? When we first tested the Wharfedale Diamond 10.1s we included the phrase 'truly excellent'. So we wasted no time in trying to define what we meant by 'truly excellent' by testing them against established favourites and promising newcomers. It's with a mixture of pleasure and relief, then, that we're able to report that these Wharfedales seem even more obviously excellent when surrounded by a group of their nominal peers. Listening to Mercury Rev's unhinged Yerself is Steam raises just about our only caveat: some other speakers offer a greater sense of excitement and abandon, where the Wharfedales seek to impose a more musicianly emphasis. That's about the best we could do as a criticism and, let's face it, we're reaching." - What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision magazine |
