"... a powerful, full-bodied yet subtle and driving presentation; one that caters for all types of music equally well... this Cambridge Audio DAC is the best of the bunch." What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision magazine.
The legendary DAC is back! Anyone familiar with hi-fi separates in the 1990s will fondly remember the multi-awarding winning Cambridge Audio DacMagic range. Fast forward a decade and the legend returns! Although the name may be the same, the technology has moved on considerably. Inside the latest DacMagic you'll find a Digital to Analogue Converter that shares many of its components with the illustrious Cambridge Audio 840c CD player. Twin Wolfson WM8740 DACs operating in dual differential mode offer outstanding clarity and imaging. Added to this is Adaptive Time Filtering. This upsampling technology upsamples conventional CD to 24bit/192KHz, creating a more natural sound quality with a relaxed gait and fluid quality.
You may ask, why would I want to buy a DacMagic? Well, if you're using a CD or DVD player, PC or media device - in fact anything with a digital output - then you are almost certain to hear a marked improvement in sound quality. And by "marked" we mean major! The quality of digital signal processing in the DacMagic means that even devices with a fairly decent in-built DAC (Digital to Analogue Converter) will be substantially improved by adding this separate DAC.
In addition to sounding superb the DacMagic is extremely versatile. Twin digital inputs allow you to upgrade the sound quality of two digital sources. You have a choice of optical or coaxial for both. In addition to this there's even a USB input for use with your PC or laptop. There are no fewer than 4 different types of output including coaxial and optical digital and either XLR balanced or traditional RCA phono analogue. In short the DacMagic wants for nothing when it comes to connections.
Using Cambridge Audio's compact metal casing, the DacMagic not only looks the part but is also extremely easy to place. A supplied "foot" even allows the unit to be placed vertically where space is at premium.
Whatever you're audio source may be, the Cambridge Audio DacMagic will give it a substantial boost. Prepare to be impressed!

"One of the best DACs we've tested. It sometimes seems that Cambridge Audio's ethos is to be everything to everyone, and the DacMagic certainly covers all the bases. So, while other manufacturers force you to choose whether you want standard digital (coaxial or optical) or USB connections, Cambridge offers all of them. There are digital and balanced outputs, too, alongside the stereo RCA. There isn't another DAC that offers the same features at a similar price. We're not just talking about the inputs, either: you also get a choice of phase filters to tailor the sound to your system and room, and there's even lights that indicate the sample rate of the incoming signal. Could you ask for more?" - What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision magazine |

"The DACMagic gives some well-respected DACs at considerably higher prices a pretty good run for their money. There are plenty more connectors on the back panel, because Cambridge has also provided a digital output (both flavours), while analogue audio signals appear in both unbalanced and balanced form - a welcome surprise at this price. The last socket is for the external power supply, important in enabling the DacMagic to inhabit such a small case. Plenty of manufacturers would doubtless be happy enough to be able to offer a completely basic DAC for £200, but Cambridge is on a bit of a roll with its enhanced feature sets." - www.techradar.com |
