"A highly enjoyable musical companion." Hi-Fi World magazine.
Since the 1980s, Arcam have been making some of the most accomplished mid-range CD players. Thoughtfully engineered and unflashy in their styling, Arcam CD players have developed a loyal following. Taking a look at and, more importantly, a listen to the Arcam FMJ CD17 it's not hard to see why. At the heart of the CD17 is a Wolfson 8741 DAC operating in differential mode. Combined with an output stage from the range topping Arcam FMJ AV9 processor and a high precision clock, this gives the Arcam FMJ CD17 a precision of sound that you can hear.
Arcam realise that it's not just the engineering quality of the digital circuitry that makes a difference but also the quality of the power supply. For this reason, the Arcam CD17 has a power supply that shows far more attention to detail than most at this price range. The toroid mains transformer has separate supplies for digital, analogue and servo sections for enhanced clarity of sound. Star earthing lowers noise levels while Arcam's famed "Mask of Silence" technology reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI). Using unique metal fibre matting, the CD17 dramatically reduces EMI that would usually mask fine and subtle nuances of sound. The result is a sound quality that's much more natural than others in its class.
Also helping to boost not just the sound quality but the build quality and look of the player is the FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) casing. Constructed using a mixture of steel and aluminium, the casing is not only solid to the touch but anti-resonant and electronically screened for enhanced sound quality.
Used with an Arcam amplifier for a perfectly balanced sonic presentation or with other equipment to lend a sense of refinement to proceedings, the Arcam CD17 is one smooth operator.
