"Its predecessor was already brilliant, but the CD6004 is even better" What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision magazine.
For many years the Marantz CD6003 ruled the roost as one of the finest CD players at its price - with a whole cabinet of trophies and gongs to prove it. Replacing it can't have been easy for Marantz but the CD6004 manages to take all that was good about the older model and evolve it to an even higher level.
At the heart of the CD6004 is a top quality Delta Sigma CS4398 DAC. Yet the really clever bit comes from Marantz's own HDAM SA2 output buffer and HDAM low pass filter stage. HDAM are Marantz's own custom designed circuits that replace the more usual op-amps. Because they control the design and implementation, they can ensure they work to exacting and very high standards. Discrete surface mount technology ensures reduced noise levels and a highly detailed, accurate sound quality. The attention to sonic detail continues with the power supply and casing. The power supply features separate rectifier circuits for analogue and digital circuitry, thus ensuring reduced interference between the two. The casing now has a solid metal base plate to virtually eliminate vibration.
Although it offers top quality sound, there's nothing minimalist about the CD6004's feature count. One feature that we especially like is the USB interface. This allows you to plug an iPod/iPhone or other digital device in and playback via the CD player. This means that the portable will gain from the Marantz's high quality digital processing thereby improving the sound of your portable, too. The large display offers up CD Text information, can be turned off or dimmed to reduce the visual distraction. Both optical and coaxial digital outputs are standard, as is a headphone socket with its own volume control.
With the Marantz CD6004 the best has just got a whole lot better.
