"Simple cinema made simply brilliant." What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision magazine.

What Hi-Fi liked the Yamaha YSP2200 soundbar so much that one of their team went out and bought one; better praise is hard to find amongst the oft jaded reviewers! It's fair to say then, that the Yamaha YSP2200 is a pretty special system but, considering that Yamaha was first to bring the technology to a mass market, this comes as little surprise.

Like other YSP soundbar systems, the Yamaha YSP-2200 offers the illusion of speakers all around without the associated boxes and wires. In essence, the Yamaha bounces sound off the walls, from just two sources (including the subwoofer) to give a room filling sound that could easily convince you in to thinking there're many more speakers in the room. At the heart of this Yamaha soundbar are no fewer than 18 separate digital power amplifiers, driving 16 'sound beam' drivers and two bass units, located in a separate subwoofer. IntelliBeam ensures optimum multi-channel set-up by constant and precise monitoring and analysis of sound output via the supplied plug in microphone. A wide choice of beam settings let you tailor the sound to your exact requirements including whether you're listening to stereo music or film in surround sound. Thanks to the separate subwoofer, this soundbar also has real clout! Twin drive units power the bass along with real conviction - just like at the cinema. As What Hi-Fi magazine went on to observe, the resulting sound quality is pretty special: "With Inception's majestically powerful score, the Yamaha shines, retaining full control over dynamics, avoiding high frequency brittleness and, when necessary, powering out the bass with genuine enthusiasm."

Yet the real beauty of the YSP-2200 is just how simple it all is to set up. Simply connect your sources by HDMI, wire up the sub, use the automatic set-up and you're ready to go. Because the bass drivers are located in a separate unit, the main soundbar can be very thin. At just 9cm in height, its profile is low enough for the soundbar to be placed in front of TVs without obstructing the picture. A further neat touch is the infra-red repeater that forwards remote control commands, should the soundbar block the sensor. If all this wasn't enough, the YSP-2200 is compatible with the Panasonic VIERA system, allowing you to control the basics of the soundbar with your TV's remote. The subwoofer is versatile, too. Place it vertically or horizontally, the unit is slim enough to fit the tightest of spaces.

If it's a non-intrusive soundbar solution you're looking for then, clearly, there's little better than the Yamaha YSP-2200. As What Hi-Fi concluded, "The YSP-2200 is the best Digital Sound Projector yet. A great home solution."

Rated 5 out of 5áby Excellent sound, even better price Looked around for a long time for a sound bar to replace my bundles of cables and speakers. After all reviews decided on this and wasn't disappointed. It is amazing to get this sound quality from a reasonably small unit. Once again Richer Sounds gives me the right product at the right price. 25 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Yamaha YSP 2200 Bought this soundbar today and got home, set it up and man this thing is amazing. Got it for ú539 thanks to richer sounds price match and is worth every penny, easy to set up and looks great. I would go to say that this thing sounds better than the bose cinemate 1 sr and that costs ú1200. Once you get this set up the sound bounces all round the room, what a fantastic piece of kit well worth it. Thanks richer sounds in Glasgow for advice. 13 May 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Brilliant Had for 2 months now, wife banned all speakers from living room in new house :-( What this does in a single box is (almost) as good as separate surround speakers.(IMHO) I get sound effects coming from solid walls and (when the house is empty) I want to crank it up it doesn't disappoint 06 April 2014
Rated 4 out of 5áby Great quality and sounds superb with movies To get the best from the sound machine, spend time setting up and for ultimate experience link with a blu ray action film. Quality is very good as with all Yamaha products. I have tried cheaper sound bars but you get what you pay for. 07 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Awesome!! I bought this to replace a bose 321 system Sounds 100 times better. When watching a movie felt like I was sitting in a cinema 26 February 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Magic soundbar Had this a month now. Totally love this soundbar. The surround sound achieved is very impressive. You really do feel it all around you. It even processes freeview broadcast to a level I have not experienced before. We do not have it set-up in an optimal position in the room as it is in a corner rather than the centre of a wall but that doesn't seem to have upset it. It still gets the sound behind you convincingly. Bluray really sets it alight though, cinema sound that made our brand new 42" TV feel small so we changed it for a 47" instead. Clear, sharp, detailed sound with well shaped bass to back it up. Of our newly purchased set-up; TV, Bluray and soundbar, this has been the winning element. It's the only part we bought that i have absolutely no reservations about. 15 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Great Piece Of Equipment I had a full Cinema Surround system with wireless rear speakers which when it worked was fine but as soon as the dog or God forbid a person got near the receiver the back speakers stopped working! My Wife is an avid hater of wires so I decided to try out this unit after hearing a similar one in the shop and it is absolutely great. Although I have only had it a short period of time and have not had time to fully try out all the gizmo's available the sound quality and Surround Sound is fantastic so I can heartily recommend this unit to someone who finds themselves in a similar situation! 04 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Great package at the price I was replacing a Denon 5.1 system that I loved but the wife hated - not the sound, just the wires & speakers. I loved the sound of the Denon but agreed that as part of a complete redecoration of the lounge it had to go. Ideally my wife would have preferred not to have a separate sub-woofer but compromise prevailed. As i was able to place said sub-woofer in the cabinet under the television replacing the Denon's main unit the whole installation appears much subtler than before. The actual soundbar is almost un-noticable below the tv screen, a real bonus. Unfortunately the demo CD supplied with the Yamaha brought up an " Incompatible TV setting " message so we have not been able to try it out, despite all our other DVDs working with no problem. My only test of the new system has been standard TV- no noticable difference- & The Hobbit on DVD. While this contains no cars or trains hurtling from one side of the room to the other the sound was rich, full & satisfying. Top marks! 03 January 2014
