INTERACT USING INTUITIVE VOICE AND MOTION CONTROL

Controlling your TV will never be the same again, thanks to the revolutionary control systems that come as standard with the Samsung UE55ES8000. Control functions such as turning on/off your TV, changing channels, accessing apps and navigating the web using simple voice commands and motions. At the top of the TV there's a built-in camera and microphone, while the touchpad remote also has a built-in mic so you don't have to shout at the TV when the volume's turned up - clever stuff! Furthermore, face recognition let's you log on to your personal accounts without the need for passwords.

RENEW YOUR TV EVERY YEAR WITH SMART EVOLUTION

If the breakthrough controllability of this TV weren't enough, then how about the promise of future enhanced performance? This has to be the first ever TV that has been designed from scratch to be updatable. Although amongst the most advanced TVs available, the future Samsung Smart Evolution kit will heighten the performance still further - without having to go to the expense of purchasing a new TV.

AWE-INSPIRING PICTURE QUALITY

For all its futurist control and upgrade technology, the Samsung UE55ES8000 hasn't forgotten the most important part of a TV: picture quality. With standard 3D, the UE55ES8000 is better than ever with more convincing and brighter 3D images. The Samsung also offers the novelty of watching standard 2D video converted to 3D. Whether you're watching in 3D or 2D, the picture quality is the best yet from a Samsung LED screen. Helping the UE55ES8000 achieve its class best picture is a feature called Ultimate Micro Dimming. This optimises contrast for deeper blacks and brighter whites. It also brings out levels of detail that would have previously been lost. In addition to Micro Dimming there's Samsung's Digital Noise Filter. This is especially effective with TV broadcasts - the UE55ES8000 is one TV that doesn't just excel with 1080p HD material only to be let down when watching "ordinary" TV - this TV impresses whatever the source. Other technologies that enhance the picture include Ultra Clear Panel and Clear Motion rate 800. The Ultra Clear Panel does as expected and eliminates the grimy look that can afflict some panels. Clear Motion, meanwhile, gets to grips with motion blur and scans the image so fast that blurred sports action is a thing of the past.

THE SMARTEST SMART TV TO DATE

Already leaders in the field, Samsung have improved their Smart Hub technology to new heights. New to the Hub are three individual group services - Kids, Fitness and Family Story. Providing child's entertainment, exercise apps and the easy storage and access of your photos and videos, the Smart Hub is now more connected than ever. From the Smart Hub you can also choose Samsung apps, select and control external USB drives for recording, access the Electronic Programme guide, search for apps and DLNA sources and, finally, still watch the live signal feed in a corner of the screen. Within the Smart Hub you'll find access to a web browser which is ideal for finding those web sites not covered by the built-in apps. What's more, you can join your network via the Ethernet connection or built-in Wi-fi. No fewer than three USB sockets are on hand with the option of connecting a hard drive to one for recording TV (controllable from the Smart Hub). Other features are too numerous to list in full but include Skype compatibility, smart phone remote application, three HDMI sockets, Samsung Allshare (powered by DLNA) and 3D by Bluetooth for enhanced glasses' battery life.

STUNNING GOOD LOOKS

Just like last year's Samsung LED Smart TVs, the UE55ES8000 looks sensational. With a bezel that's just a few mm thick it almost looks as though the picture is floating above the stand. Furthermore, the space taken up is still less than many 50 inch TVs. Add a depth of less than 31mm and a light weight and, for a large screened TV, this is an incredibly versatile and easy to position TV. Samsung's innovative new 'ski' stand also makes the ES8000 stand out from the crowd and gives it added style and grace.

For the future in TV now and beyond, the Samsung UE55ES8000 is simply visionary.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 18 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by its got the wow factor This product is awesome and having had many tv's over the years, this surpasses them all. I like the fact that it is future proof. 01 June 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great picture quality, lots of features and connectivity Bought this back in July 2012 so it's almost a year old now and it still looks like the best quality screen on the market and looks great up on my wall. There are a lot of pros and a few cons, though these do not detract from the overall quality. The Pros start with the crisp picture and great colour depth and there is a good level of adjustment available in the picture menu. The sound is acceptable but I am still looking to supplement with a soundbar/subwoofer combination to make movies more immersive. There is a lot of control over sound and picture, available through the numerous menu options - always a welcome thing in my book. The SmartHub is OK but really needs a wireless mouse and keyboard if you are going to navigate with any ease or speed. Personally, I don't use it that much as I have access to on demand services etc via my Sky HD box. Still, may be useful in the future. I also purchased a Samsung slim wall mount system so the depth from wall to front of screen is a minimal 5cm. This wall mount system seems quite expensive for 2 metallic circles and a wire rope but after spending so much on the TV, I thought it deserved to look its best. The ability to stream images and video straight from Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab or even my non Samsung branded :-) laptop is great. No more hooking up cables etc. Every one of my friends and family has had a positive comment to make when they see it hanging on the wall, from its sleek stylish looks to the size and picture quality. The slim bezel means that the overall size of this 55" TV is only slightly larger than the 50" LED TV that it replaced. Cons are the voice and motion controls which are a bit gimmicky - the response is a bit hit and miss and is not as smart as that on the XBox/Kinnect combination. Hopefully this functionality could be enhanced with a future upgrade through the evolution/upgrade port. Also, I hunted the set for the Kensington lock port that the owners manual mentioned only to discover that the port is on the stand, not the TV. This means that I cannot secure the TV effectively as I am not using the stand. Even using the stand seems insecure as the TV could easily be removed from the stand rendering the Kensington lock useless. If the price was about £800 less than current then this would be 5 stars across the board. These few niggles aside, this TV is the best I have purchased to date and the pros far outweigh the cons. Very much recommended. 30 May 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by I have a samsung household Love the series 8 tv but how do I connect to a wireless network? 27 April 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great picture and features pity is does not control the volume on external non Samsung surround sound systems! Given I can play\stop rewind etc. my external DVD player via the TV remote how surprise was I when I could not turn the volume up and down on the same piece of equipment! Otherwise great piece of kit. 04 April 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by The best purchase I made since buying my house I am truly awestruck with this television. I absolutely love it as does everyone that walks through the door, The picture quality is the best I've ever seen.. If I had to find fault it would be that it consumes so much of my time that I have to be reminded there is more to life than watching television. 23 February 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by A good TV but too many gadgets that don't work Have owned this TV for 3 months now. Voice and gesture control are very basic and easily confused. My TV regular thinks I am waving or talking at it so the voice or motion controls appear which is annoying. I have turned both off. It also has a habit of saying it is about to power down so you have to find the remote to stop it doing so. Picture is excellent in 3D and 2D but motion control not the best. I love this TV but it is by no means the best out there for picture quality. Overall I would recommend it but don't buy it for the voice and motion control as you will be badly disappointed. It looks fantastic and is great to watch files on. The smart features are useful but I prefer using other devices to browse the net not my TV. 29 December 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great TV This is a great TV. Feature packed and not bad looking! 14 November 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awsome !!! I have owned this TV for 4 months and its amazing, every one that has visited our home cannot believe the picture quality, and i think this is possibly the very best purchase I have ever made. The 3D feature is amazing, I watch 3D blu ray films using my Playstation 3, things just come out of the screen at you I have never seen anything on another TV that even comes close. This Samsung TV is the only one on the market that has full 3D HD. Totally recommend it. You may think that its price is a little high but when you compare what you had to pay for just an normal HD TV a few years ago and the amount you get with this TV its a really good price and value for money and it can be upgraded next year with the latest software just like the play station is, so no need to have to replace it for a newer model. 21 October 2012
