"Short of a subscription service, we can't imagine why you'd want for anything else." 'What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision magazine'. 5-star review. 500GB tested at £190, 1TB tested at £220.

Freetime for your time

Freetime is the smart TV guide from Freesat that gives you a Roll Back TV Guide to watch shows you've missed from the past seven days. Now you can watch all the UK's favourite On Demand players when it suits you and not the programmers. BBC iPlayer, ITV Player*, 4oD, Demand 5, as well as YouTube, BBC News, BBC Sport, and Curzon Home Cinema are all included in the Roll Back TV service.

Simple to connect
Connecting up the HDR1100S is easy. Simply connect to your TV in the normal way via HDMI. Then connect to your home network using either the built-in Wi-Fi or Ethernet (requires broadband Internet connection with a minimum speed of 2Mbps).

Freesat HD - subscription-free satellite TV
Freesat+HD gives you over 200 channels, with 11 in stunning HD. You can use an existing satellite dish to receive Freesat. With up to five times the picture detail, HD TV images offer stunning realism. The built-in Hard Drive means you can record your favourite programmes. Twin TV tuners let you record two channels at the same time or watch one program while recording another. (Dual LNB satellite feed required, ask about installation).

Record, pause and rewind live TV
Featuring a built-in 500GB hard drive, it's easy to record, pause and rewind live TV. The high capacity storage now holds up to 300 hours of standard TV or 125 hours of HDTV - enough to be able to catch up on all your favourite TV even after a long break away. With the pause and rewind function, interruptions from phone calls are no longer an issue - simply pause the live TV and resume when you're free again.

Remote programming and recording via app
Available for Apple iOS, Android and now Kindle Fire devices, the dedicated Freesat app lets you take control of programming and recording for your Humax box, wherever you are! Once paired with your device you can remotely select which programmes you want to record and, with a display that replicates the TV menu, it's easy to programme - especially on a tablet.

Save a fortune on expensive TV subscriptions and join the Freetime revolution with the Humax HDR-1100S.

* ITV Player is available in England, Wales and the Channel Islands only.

HUMAX HDR1100S 500GB is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 115.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value and lovely quality This is my second Humax box and instead of overpaying those bandits at Sky I can watch what I want, when I want. Easy to set up and to operate.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good alternative to Sky. Having been with Sky for 30 years, putting up with their constant price increases and only watching normal channels, I decided to bite the bullet. The picture is comparable to Sky, but ease of use is not. For me it's taking a bit of getting used to, but I'll get there. Main disapointment is that I've been used to on demand being automatically saved as a recording, so I can watch at my convenience. With this box, you have to watch it as it's streaming. That's ok if it's still available when you choose to view. Also I cannot understand why the status led light is situated under the box where you can't see it. I got over this by making a 45 degree reflective prism underneath so I can see it from my armchair. Other than this, it's a good replacement for Sky.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy set up Could do with a better booklet for use All controls easy to use Just slow starting up when switched on

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A plasticy package - easy to use for the simple stuff but guide is lacking some useful bits. I bought this when our Humax Foxsat HDR packed up after 7 years of reliable & impressive use. My rating is in comparison with a sturdy, sat-box that I had grown familiar with. For the first few years, Humax automatically upgraded the operating system, including iplayer but didn't enable it to cope with BBC iplayer when it changed its system. This box works well with BBCiplayer but I haven't managed to watch anything more than 1 week old from ITV iplayer - don't know why. I managed to copy from the old hard-drive onto usb (FAT32 formatted) using Opt+ key and transfer to my PC - and can now play these old recordings on this box. Took a lot of searching - didn't find any guidance in booklet or on the downloadable user guide - but its possible under 'Humax' from the Home key. I'm not impressed with the front panel display - I would like front lights to distinguish standby/awake & to show if recording - usb shouldn't be removed if on or recording!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Got a box for Christmas, set up on Boxing Day, very simple to do and everything so far is great, had the previous humax freesat hd box for over 8 years, never had any trouble whatsoever, so decided to get the latest model, great piece of equipment, would definitely recommend to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It gets better! All you ex Sky+ box users, be patient; this box and its controls are very much different than what you are used to. Give it time and you will appreciate the differences, even the number of key depressions needed to achieve an outcome (this actually gives you far more versatility). Although you cannot reorganise your favourites into your own order, you will soon get used to where everything is. The bonus is that the interface is actually better than Sky's and the picture quality is noticeably better. There is nothing wrong with the remote, as some people claim, it is fine. And -- if you really do need Sky 1, Atlantic, Living etc, just pay £6.99 each month for NowTV.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much better than SKY - and cheaper too. Have been fed up of SKY's ever increasing prices, so we decided to have a FreeSat box. This one is ideal for our needs. We can record BBC Scotland whilst watching BBC England. We have all the pause and playback facilities that SKY CHARGE for. The blue light goes pinkish whilst in recording mode so you are sure the program you have selected is actually recording. Very, very easy to set up, easy to understand. A very good handset too. This will pay for itself with 9 months, and no more SKY...
