Featuring a brand new plasma panel, the TH42PX80 offers a stunning contrast ratio of 15, 000:1 - that's an amazing 50% improvement on the previous model. Furthermore, the TH42PX80B is now a 100Hz plasma TV. 100Hz technology leads to a more stable picture with less flicker and reduced motion blur. Finally, Panasonic have also upgraded the processor. The new V-real II processor offers even greater picture enhancement. The results? Well, it's fair to say that never before has a plasma TV of this price ever offered such realism and such a captivating picture.
It's not just the picture that Panasonic have been busy improving. The connectivity has seen an upgrade, too. In this age of HD, it's good to see that the latest Panasonic plasma TV now has 3 HDMI sockets - ideal for an HD TV receiver, Blu-ray player and upscaling DVD. In addition to this, twin SCART sockets, VGA (for a PC) and component inputs are on hand for analogue sources. A slightly more unusual fitment, but still welcome nonetheless is a SD card reader. This easily accessible slot is perfect for showing pictures taken on your digital camera.
As you'd expect from the latest generation plasma TV, the Panasonic TH42PX80B is a Freeview equipped plasma, meaning that you can watch all the additional channels at no extra charge. If you want to take digital TV a stage further, then a CI slot lets you use pay-TV cards such as Setanta.
