"A feisty-sounding floorstander, offering great performance at a fantastic price." What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision magazine.
For the latest version of this floorstanding classic, Tannoy has revised the cabinet, improving the cabinet rigidity and construction. The improved cabinet offers lower resonance thereby giving a punchy bass response and improved timing.
Contained within the new cabinet are similarly new drive units. The twin bass cones are lighter and more rigid than before, making the bass faster to respond and the mid-range more detailed. With twin bass drivers the Tannoy V4 creates effortless depth and can sustain bass notes for longer. The treble unit has been changed, too, and has been picked for its exceptional accuracy at this price point. New cabinet, woofers and tweeter make for a pretty comprehensive upgrade but Tannoy haven't left it at that. The crossover features Tannoy's innovative compound, DMT (Differential Materials Technology). This is used to mount vibration sensitive components and creates lower distortion in the higher frequencies as the capacitors are able to work more effectively. Also standard for the first time is silver-plated oxygen-free copper; usually the preserve of much more expensive speakers. This improves the articulation of sound and makes for a more transparent sound.
When taken together, all these features add up to a very impressive sounding loudspeaker. Although dynamic and punchy, as you'd expect from this size of speaker, the Tannoy V4 is also extremely refined and detailed. There's a level of clarity that you wouldn't usually expect from a speaker of this size and price.
In addition to raising the game in terms of sound quality, Tannoy has also improved the looks of the V4. Now with brushed aluminium trim and revised colours, the Tannoy V4 looks better than ever with today's typical decors and home cinema and hi-fi equipment.
For a 5-star floorstanding speaker that matches grace with pace, the Tannoy V4 is a top contender.
