"A well-made, well-featured and solid-sounding product, the Arcam Solo Music is indeed a complete one-box stereo system." 'What Hi-Fi? 2016'. 5-star review. Tested at £1500.

Power with control from Class-G amp

Drawing on over 40 years experience in amps, Arcam have set a new class standard for sound quality. Using a unique Class-G amplifier gives the Solo Music generous power and incredibly low distortion. This means deep, powerful bass - even larger rooms and with power hungry speakers. At the same time the subtlest detail is not lost on the Solo Music, meaning the sound is just as the producer intended.

High quality Bluetooth streaming
For easy access to your digital music library or favourite music services, such as Spotify and Apple Music, the Arcam Solo Music is equipped with Bluetooth. Simply pair your smartphone, tablet, laptop or computer and enjoy high quality music streaming from the aptX-equipped Bluetooth receiver.

SACD playback
In addition to making a great CD player, the Arcam Solo Music also replays SACDs (Super Audio Compact Discs). These Direct Stream Digital (DSD) discs offer a far higher resolution than ordinary CDs and are similar in resolution to 24-bit music files. The result is a more natural sound, revealing subtle detail and texture in the music.

Stream music via UPnP
The Arcam Solo Music also features a very handy built-in streamer. You can link to your system by wired Ethernet or by built-in Wi-Fi. Compatible with UPnP and CIFS audio streaming standards, the Solo Music is the ideal device for listening to music stored on your NAS drive, laptop, PC or Mac.

Improved MusicLife iOS control app
If you've got an Apple iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad, then you can take full control of streaming music to your Solo Music with the MusicLife control app. Working with the Bluetooth receiver, it lets you stream music directly from your device as well as servers or computers connected via UPnP. The latest version also supports Internet Radio, Podcasts and streaming from TIDAL and Qobuz. Advanced features, such as library searching, sorting, shuffle and repeat playback are also catered for.

DAB tuner radio
For more conventional listening, the Arcam also has a DAB/FM tuner radio built in. With both analogue FM and digital DAB broadcasting covered, you can listen to nearly all the national and local stations available.

All the inputs you could want - including HDMI
Unusually for a stereo system, the Arcam Solo Music comes equipped with an HDMI interface. The four HDMI inputs and output are ideal for linking up streaming devices, such as the Apple TV, with your TV connected for its role as a display. It's also the ideal way of getting superb sound from video sources, without having to buy a full surround sound AV receiver. USB, optical, coaxial digital, RCA phono and AUX 3.5mm inputs are all standard, too.

Genuine hi-fi quality sound from an all-in-one solution, the Arcam Solo Music gives the best of both worlds.

Brand Arcam
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Really disappointed. There are 2 stories here. The good news is that Richer Sounds were very helpful throughout the entire sorry experience. I ended up exchanging the Arcam for Cambridge Audio gear. I have not regretted that decision for an instant. The bad news is that the first Arcam was very erratic and kept freezing between functions. The on/off button was sticky. HDMI failed to function. I exchanged it within 3 weeks for another one. The second model was as erratic but in different ways. Sound would drop out, Spotify would fail, the TV HDMI connection never worked, and again it kept freezing. I had to restart it constantly. Richer Sounds tested it over a few days and agreed with my assessment. I now have Cambridge Audio gear that fully functions and sounds impressive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good looking and good performance This piece of equipment - as with all the rest of the items purchased - have only been in situ for 10 days so we are just getting used to the amazing sound and I am sure it will give us many hours of listening pleasure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful all in one unit Bought this just after Christmas as a little present to myself. Had my eye on it for a little while and at the bargain price of £699 I couldn't resist. Lovely balanced sound with a surprising amount of detail. Sadly had to return it for repair as Bluetooth is intermittently playing up but under warranty so no major problem. Staff at Richer Sounds are very helpful. Just one of those things. Despite this I certainly have no hesitation in recommending both the unit and Richer Sounds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Arcam Solo Music Bought this item from RS last week and very pleased with it. More importantly, my wife is also very pleased as this 'one box solution' means it's much tidier than my old Hi-Fi separates system. Yet to fully test and connect up to TV etc, but sound alone through my aged TDL speakers is really great. Now I just need to get her to agree to a nice pair of floorstanders! Also, Many thanks to Josh in the MK branch for his help and advice. It's always a pleasure doing business with Richer Sounds. Thanks once again and I hope to be back again soon.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good sound & integration, poor user interface We like the Arcam sound quality and having CD player, tuner and amplifier in one box is great. We found the very limited information displayed on the small screen unhelpful and the user instructions similarly unhelpful in some respects. But overall we are very pleased with our purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value for a fantastic sound The Arcam Solo Is incredibly easy to set up, just connect the speakers and everything else I connected passes through HDMI. The remote deserves a mention, it looks good and is easy to use,and can be used as a universal remote. The sound is a noticeable step up from the Denon system I had previously, paired with Tannoy Revolution XT speakers. I tried it first with Black and White by The Staves, followed but Disturbed’s cover of The Sound of Silence. In both cases the vocals sounded more natural, like being in the same room. The bass is satisfying and deep without distracting from or swamping the rest of the sound. Running the PS4 Through the system via HDMI makes games and movies sound great, with excellent vocal clarity. The only thing I can find to criticise is the volume control on top of the unit. Everything else looks and feels slick and high quality, but the volume dial feels rather cheap, plasticky, and lacks the satisfying smooth movement that you get with Naim’s Uniti series. But in all honesty I can live with that and will likely not use it much, since the remote is so good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Consolidation into one box I’d looked at the Brennan in the past but could not judge its audio quality. Also, although the inbuilt drive in a Brennan appealed, it was an Achilles’ heel – one broken HDD and phut! - it’s all gone - just like my old Humax TV recorder. When the Solo Music first appeared, it had good audio reviews but was very expensive until Richer Sounds put it on offer. I listened and decided this was the machine for me. Solid sound with depth and expression. It is smaller, simpler and all singing (except for the lack of a phono input.. oh well). Setup was easy and the CDs were soon playing and I am impressed and very pleased. My wife is also glad to see the back of the old Philips 900 series boxes. WAV and FLAC files sound as good as the original CDs and even moderately compressed MP3s come over reasonably OK. Two slight disappointments. First, the inbuilt radio is OK but it is not up to the standard of my old Philips system. I have a roof mounted aerial with good FM reception and I’m sorry to say I’ll miss the old FM tuner. No comment on DAB as I guess its compressed anyway. Second is the lack of a maker’s remote control app for Andriod– there are others but so far nothing particularly good, but I’m still looking at Arcam and hoping. Oh, and the Bluetooth signal seems a bit weak but I doubt if I’ll use that. For music storage, I’m old school and wanted to play CDs, but the convenience of storing them uncompressed appealed. I’ve decided to use EAC to store WAV files on an external 1Tb HDD, with 2 duplicates as backups stored off site (no modern fangled networks, attached storage, servers, cooling fans, software upgrades, clouds etc.. here, sorry). The HDD is plugged directly into the USB of the SOLO and I’m OK navigating the HDD folder structure using the limited display on the SOLO front panel. It is great value, at the reduced price. Musically solid and enjoyable. Get one if you can but note the need for a phono stage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Competent and versatile The Solo combines a number of facilities very effectively in one sleek (if rather heavy) and stylish unit. There is no significant trade off in performance for this convenience and this is a very rewarding unit to own.
