Master HiFi Dual DACs

Used for the first time in a portable player, Cirrus Logic Master HiFi DACs (Digital to Analogue Convertors) provide the SR15 with exceptional sound quality. Meeting their highest standards for sonic precision, the DACs guarantee a reference level of sound. By using twin DACs, the SR15 further improves the sound. By using one DAC for the left channel and another for the right, the SR15 offers channel precision and stereo imaging that's well beyond most rivals.

Flexible format player
There are many HD Audio recordings already available to download online and you may already have started a collection on your computer or NAS drive. Where the SR15 really scores is being able to take those recordings with you - in the highest quality possible. The SR15 supports a wide range of file formats, including WAV, FLAC, WMA, MP3, OGG, APE (Normal, High, Fast), AAC, ALAC, AIFF, DFF and DSF.

Native DSD support
Giving this player even broader support for Hi-Res formats, the SR15 supports native DSD64. As an alternative to PCM sampling, many of the large music labels, including Sony, support DSD files. DSD is renowned for its huge dynamic range, ‘inky’ quiet backdrop and subtle detail that gives music ‘life’ and realism. DSD128 playback (converted to PCM) is also possible.

Quad-core processor
With a quad-core processor at its heart, the SR15 not only delivers powerful audio processing but also a fast, intuitive display and user interface. The 3.3-inch colour screen is a fast, informative and slick as the best smartphones.

USB Audio (digital output)
The SR15 also supports USB audio digital out. You can connect the SR15 through your compatible USB DAC or digital amp for even purer sound quality. The player can transfer DSD in native through DoP (DSD over PCM). It can also convert DSD into PCM for output for portable amps that do not support DoP.

Store it all - 64GB internal memory with support for a massive 400GB
With 64GB of internal memory, the SR15 can store about 625 tracks (24 bit/96kHz, 4 minute-long, 90MB) songs on its flash memory. With the addition of a micro SD card, this can be increased up to 400GB – enough for a lifetime’s collection of music.

Support for balanced headphones
With its 4-pol, 2.5mm headphone socket, the SR15 is ideal for use with balanced headphones. Using a balanced signal between the source and headphones reduces noise and interference and is especially handy on the move. A standard 3.5mm unbalanced socket is also standard.

Bluetooth, wi-fi and Tidal built-in
With standard Bluetooth you can quickly link the SR15 to Bluetooth headphones or speakers. Built-in Tidal means this Hi-Res player makes the most of one of the highest quality music streaming services available. The SR15 also has built-in wi-fi. As a cable-free alternative, choose wi-fi for streaming from NAS drives or other network connected devices such as your laptop.

For smartphone-busting sound on the move, trade up to the Astell & Kern SR15.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hi Fi in your pocket I travel for work occasionally and really miss having access to high quality music. An iPhone certainly provides a distraction but the A&K SR15 is real hi-fi in your pocket. Paired with a good pair of headphones, the SR15 provides confident sound across the range for classical and all other music. I use Shure SE425s on planes and B&W P5s when I'm not moving around or in a quieter environment. People happily spend 1000 pounds on a phone with gadgets and apps they never need, with avearge sound. Compared to that the SR15 is a bargain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Got me listening to music on the move again! Having reached the memory capacity on my iphone and my ipod being a bit long in tooth I decided to bite the bullet and invest in this. Certainly not cheap but excellent sound quality (now linked up to Qobuz Hi-Res) and, overall, a very good piece of kit. Excellent build quality and looks great. No case is supplied which is disappointing given the quality and price but I have invested in the Miter leather case which is very smart (but again not cheap). The SR15 has now got me back to listening to music while on the move. Also using at home as a DAC connected by USB to my laptop which is an added bonus. As another reviewer notes, the touch screen is a little fiddly and I find it can be a bit slow and awkward to move around the menus but I have tried it with both Tidal and Qobuz and it synchronises fine using the inbuilt wi-fi and offline downloads. Decent size memory that is easily expanded by slot in micro SD card. Very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A fantastic thing I have owned the SR 15 for a few months now and am a delighted purchaser. Previously I used a sony cD Walkman as I can not accept MP3 quality but I decided I should move on .I planned to only use the Astell + Kern for flights and long train trips but it is so good and I enjoy it so much I now use it every time I leave the house. I normally twin it with a set of AKG noise cancelling headphones that I use wired. The sR15 can rise to the challenge of my Sennheiser 600s and display much more ambient information but this is lost anyway on a train or a plane. The excellent Richer Sounds Newcastle team demonstrated the ease that this unit will link up via Bluetooth to a free standing system. As I am using it so often I decided to buy the Miter case which although expensive fits perfectly and stops me worrying about any accidents.Easy to use ,a delight to look at I fully recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent but not amazing The A&K out of the box is very impressive. My headphones are Skullcandy Crusher, so by no means an expensive pair of cans so I can only imagine what a better pair would sound like with the SR15; that'll obviously be my next purchase. I think my headphones are now delivering the best sound that they possibly can and are pushed to their limits but even so I can hear things in music that I’ve never heard before. Everything is just clearer but no too clinical for me. The accuracy on instruments is very very impressive. The rasp of Brass, tone of Guitars and the effects of Synth are considerably noticeable. Harmonies by Fleetwood Mac are excellent with each layer of the vocals clear to hear. Thriller by Michael Jackson shows off the expertise and time that was spent in the studio, delivering a fantastic soundstage and separation of instruments, it just lifts the music to another level. Some disappointing things like album art not downloading for quite a lot of my albums and the touch screen being a bit iffy which isn’t cool when you are spending £600, jeez, the cheapest of mobile phones don't even have that type of problem! The Screen Brightness bar sometimes just does not respond at all and after fiddling with it for a good minute or so, I just gave up. There are options to change the sound using the EQ but to be honest it barely changes the sound at all. The down side of this is that if you are listening to some older albums with a quiet recording then, despite the fancy EQ and all the options, you can't really increase anything too much. here's no option too change the Treble or Bass either which again I think is a bit of a let down. Setting these small issues aside it is definitely worth spending the money if you are music enthusiast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A&K convert Since buying the SR 15 I’m no longer able to enjoy music through any other portable devices. Met and exceeded my expectations. Not cheap (Richer Sounds did offer the best price!) but definitely worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A wonderful dap! A wonderful dap! But, like mountain bikes, everything is a compromise! My long search for the audio pot of gold at the end of the rainbow has seen me pair an ipod classic/smartphone/nw-a35 with a sony pha-1. I have progressed through ue super-fi pro5's, shure se535's, westone um2/um3x/um3 pro/um5 pro, (paired with various custom shells) to a pair of custom acs emotions. I have beaten a Chinese DAP to death on rock on a beach at night due to a buggy UI. Lately I have been content with said acs emotions and an LG v20 smartphone (which is more convenient and sounds the same as the NW-A35/PHA-1 pairing). But I do miss a volume dial! And my next smartphone will probably not have a 3.5mm jack input. So, although I have been off the audio upgrade wagon for a while I have been stalking DAP's Then along came this DAP with a nice UI, the ability to download music from my NAS, a volume knob and a great review from whathifi. My interest was piqued and I took myself off to RicherSounds in Manchester to sample a chord mojo and the ak70 mkii (they didn't have an ak sr15 to demo). The mojo was nice but not convenient. The ak70 mkii made me smile. I bought the AK SR15. I had a dreadful time importing playlists that have survived my classic/android/a35/fiio. I tried (mediamonkey/itunes/mp3tag/notepad++) to get my m3u files correctly formatted. In the end it was not the end of line character sets that were the problem but the UTF-8 file encoding. But I succeeded and am happy (But AK - please note - a little playlist management software would be nice and who uses asp for their website these days when asp.net has been out for so long?). This is an awesome little player. I love it.
