Atacama Evoque Eco 60-40 SE - 4 Shelf (Dark Bamboo)
Hi-Fi Rack
£829
”Not convinced a decent rack can make a difference? This Atacama offering could make you change your mind.”– ‘What Hi-Fi’ 2018 award winner.
The Atacama Evoque Eco 60-40SE is available in natural bamboo and, at additional cost, a Dark stain finish.
Modular shelving systems and individual shelves are available with the 'Special Edition' improvements listed as 'NEW' below.
Bamboo shelving
Atacama's high density carbonized bamboo gives significant major sonic advantages when compared to traditional hardwood and veneered supports, with its unique micro growth pore structure offering both excellent vibration absorbing and resonance controlling properties. The production processes, layering, density and overall thickness have been specifically chosen to give the best possible acoustic results.
A.S.I.S.T dampening gaskets
Atacama Sonic Isolation System Technology (A.S.I.S.T) has been incorporated into each module. This consists of two dampening gaskets* in each leg designed to reduce "ringing" and to isolate the Aluminium components from the outer leg collar.
Aluminium Top and Lower caps incorporating Leg Internal Suds.
These components act as resonance conductors, allowing an escape route for this energy away from the bamboo shelves so that it can be dissipated through to the floor.
NEW- Mechanically Tuned Leg Lengths*
Leg lengths are 15mm longer than standard Evoque, thus lowering the resonance frequency of each module* when compared to an equivalent standard Evoque. The leg outer collars are powder coated in a Satin Black finish.
NEW- Leg Tuning Counterweights*
By adding additional fully adjustable mass via Nickel plated Bronze frostrum cones to the leg internal studs*, the module frequency can be tuned to dial out the resonance of the specific equipment being supported.
NEW-V.R.D.C Vectored Resonance Deflection Channels.
Each Bamboo panel has V.R.D.C Vectored Resonance Deflection Channels. V.R.D.C. is the three dimensional geometric design that has been crafted into the underside of each module. This complex pattern neutralises high frequency harmonic energy by directing it away from the supported equipment toward the leg grounding components. Each channel has been cut into a "V" shape so directing energy that is entering the shelf vertically into a horizontal axis so avoiding resonance feedback, maximising each modules performance.
NEW - Bronze Isolation Coned Spikes*
With so much resonance being directed away from the bamboo, the spike interface has now been opened so avoiding a constriction of this energy and allowing it to freely dissipate to the floor.
*Due to the base modules requirement to release energy rather than control it, not all upgrades are incorporated fully into this module.

System sounds better than ever
For many years I'd been using a welded steel shelf unit with glass shelves, supplemented by lightweight isolation platforms under each piece of equipment. I always had a nagging doubt that what is a reasonably high end system was never sounding at its best despite fiddling for years with cabling and acoustic treatment solutions in my listening room. The Atacama Evoque ECO 60-40 SE stand has transformed the sound of the system. I use large floor standing monitor speakers and uneven bass response had been a constant problem up to now. The Atacama shelf unit has cured that problem and the bass is now deeper than ever when needed but is also now well integrated into the overall sound rather than being lumpy and boomy. All traces of harshness in mid and treble have disappeared and there's a load of extra detail apparent in everything I listen to. Imaging is much improved, with instruments and voices having a much more tangible presence and space around them. I thought that rhythm and timing had always been a strong point in my system but everything just sounds so much more together and integrated than before. Finally the dynamics of music are much more convincingly portrayed, particularly with orchestral music. Everything just sounds so much more musical and entertaining now.
This isn't an inexpensive shelf unit but, compared to other high end equipment supports, I'd say it's good value for money and it's effect on the sound of my system has been nothing short of a revelation. I've now ditched the lightweight isolation platforms I was using as they detract from the sound rather than improve it. I wish I'd bitten the bullet and spent the money years ago, but at least I'm enjoying listening to my entire music collection again. Just shows it pays to get the fundamentals right first, one being the right support to get the best from the system. Overall I'm delighted with the rack and would recommend it to anyone.

Good looking rack.
First things first, usual excellent service from Richer Sounds. It was the first time I have bought online from Richer Sounds, normally I go to their York shop, but the experience was as good as ever.
The rack arrived next working day at no additional cost which was a nice bonus. Well packed and protected.
Assembly of the rack was mainly straightforward and the instructions were simple and easy to follow. Took me about 2 hours to assemble the (4 tier) rack and place and connect the equipment; and therein was the only problem. Three (out of twelve) of the long screw studs that go in the legs were poorly finished at the ends which meant it was extremely difficult to screw on the caps at either end. I eventually sorted it out by screwing in
and out one of the screws to effectively re-mill the threads at the end of the studs but it was a hassle. A bit disappointing at this price.
The rack looks very good and fits in with our furniture. My wife has allowed me to put the rack and my hifi into our main living room at last so that is a great success and a win win. Happy wife.
I cannot say it has made any difference to the sound my hifi produces, but for me that is not the point. It looks good and I am. No longer banished to my study if I want to listen to music

Superbly built great looking unit.
Was very impressed with the quality of all the (many) components before I assembled the unit. Took a while to put together but when it is, it is an impressive unit. Very well built & it makes my components look far better than the previous rack I had. You get what you pay for & this was worth every penny.
