SUPERB HEADPHONES
Audeze LCD-X headphones have gained impressive reviews in Hi Fi journals such as Stereophile and in consumer fora. Those reviews are justified. These are excellent transducers. I assessed them via an ATC pre amp, an Oppo 205 universal player and an Audiolab MDAC+ digital/analogue converter. I listened to a variety of media including hi resolution audio files, Blu Ray Audio Discs, SACD's, CD's some of which I had mastered myself ( therefore, I am aware of the sound of the original sources and vinyl records. In terms of musical genres, I included, symphonic, choral and chamber music, jazz and popular titles.
The Audeze headphones displayed high order detail retrieval, accurate but not exaggerated imaging, timbral accuracy, even response across the frequency spectrum with extended high frequencies and deep bass, transparency, wide sound stage and faithful presentation of scale even when it was massive such as in the Berlioz Requiem. There was an unforced naturalness to their sonic presentation and perhaps most importantly, they were musically coherent as opposed to clinically analytical.
Their quality was immediately apparent and there was further improvement over 50-75 hours of use.
The stock headphone cable performs well and is probably sufficient for the needs of most. However, I did also try a Moon Audio Black Premium headphone cable and there were worthwhile gains in resolution, timbral saturation, high frequency richness, soundstage, transparency and musicality.
Although they are expensive, for what these headphones achieve, their price is more than fair. They are robustly constructed and ultimately are something of a high end audio classic that perform brilliantly in all musical genres. Very strongly recommended.

Super vivid & detailed - end game
They are heavy so need to get used to them, but the music sounds so sweet and deep.
Yokes feel a bit scratchy when adjusting them, but are perfectly stable once set in place.
Cables are amazing quality. Vegan pads seem better quality than the leather ones.

Not cheap but excellent sound quality
I had devoured many reviews of headphones and decided I wanted to try the planar magnetic type. Audeze seems to be a respected player in this field. RichaerSounds Holborn very kindly ordered in a pair of the LCD-X for me to audition. The thing about headphones and speakers is that its is all very personal; you need to listen to them. For me, this was a brilliant purchase. I am not very keen on the cable, but that is not very important. The fit, comfort and especially the sound is really very good.
