The best value DragonFly yet - plus improved sound!
The DragonFly Black is the best ever value AudioQuest DAC. The new price point makes it more affordable than ever and the ideal accompaniment for your smartphone or tablet. Despite the price drop, the sound quality has been improved by fitting a high-spec ESS 9010 DAC (Digital to Analogue Converter). Better known for their use in top-end AV electronics, this 32-bit DAC provides stunning realism and dynamics.
Lower power consumption - ideal for use with your smartphone or tablet
With lower power consumption than before, the Dragonfly Black is now suitable for use with smartphones and tablets without undue battery use. Simply fit a USB adaptor to suit your device and connect up to an Apple or Android smartphone or tablet for a massive improvement in sound quality.
A sound upgrade for your Mac, PC or laptop
Whether you listen to music on your smartphone, tablet, Mac, PC or laptop, the audio quality can easily be improved. Whether you use headphones or have your device connected directly to your hi-fi, the DragonFly Black simply offers a massive improvement in sound quality. It bypasses the device's built-in DAC, instead passing sound through its own, high-end hi-fi quality chip.
Small package, big sound
Although tiny, the Dragonfly is every bit as impressive as many full-size DACs. Asynchronous transfer and twin clocks ensure perfectly timed and controlled digital information enters the DAC, for a highly accurate and precise sound quality. Compared to a computer/smartphone/tablet's headphone output you'll notice a more dynamic sound with more detail and openness. In essence, the sound will simply be more lifelike.
Supports multiple music file formats
Despite its tiny size, the Dragonfly will play a wide variety of music files. Twin clocks ensure perfect playback of 44.1 kHz (CD quality), 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz and 96 kHz. As a final neat touch, the dragonfly logo glows various colours to indicate the file frequency: green for CD (44.1 kHz), blue for 48 kHz, amber for 88.2 kHz and magenta for 96 kHz.
Make the most of your music on the move, with the AudioQuest DragonFly Black - don't leave home without it!
Rated 5 out of 5 by sunbeam7 from Dragonfly DAC (Black) review Bought this from Richer Sounds on line. Delivered within a few days. Bought it to connect iPhone and iPad to headphones and speakers. Enables transmission to headphones and speakers of lossless quality sound from Apple Music streamed to iOS devises. Works well and cleverly colour codes stream quality. Some music definitely sounds better than when using Airplay. You do need a lightning to USB adaptor at extra cost. Recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by davideverett1 from totally transformed the music i listen too the dragonfly hasn't disappointed it has completely transformed to quality of music I listen to on my hi fi, the sound is so much more dynamic and clear, you get to hear sounds that would normally be lost when listening to MP3 on an analogue system in actual fact the difference is like night and day, I would totally recommend if you are looking for the best sound from your home system

Rated 5 out of 5 by erasmos from Makes A Difference After hearing of DACs for a few months, I wanted to try them; from a variety of reviews on entry level models, I settled on the Dragonfly Black, with their USB-C adapter. Although I haven't the sensitivity of an audiophile, there is clearly an enhancement, even when using a fairly modest set of headphones (Bose QC 25); I use them with both my OnePlus 6T and my iPad Pro. I find it difficult to describe as I lack this sort of vocabulary, but I would say that it pulls the vertical layers of sound apart, vertically.

Rated 4 out of 5 by dasads44 from Easy to use and does improve sound I bought the AudioQuest DragonFly Black a couple of weeks ago as an experiment to see if I could actually hear any differences between the stock DACs on my computer and phone and it. When paired with higher quality audio data from Qobuz (You get a free month with the Dragonfly) I can hear differences. I still need to use it with some different headphones and with my main speakers but that is all part of the fun. I wouldn't consider this an essential purchase, but I have certainly enjoyed experimenting with it and maybe higher quality headphones / speakers benefit more from an external DAC than my cheaper ones. As always richersounds have provided an excellent service.
