Featuring a USB connection, the Cambridge Audio Azur 651A bridges the gap between your computer and hi-fi better than ever before

Now with USB

Although not uncommon for CD players to feature a USB input, they're a rarity on amplifiers. Yet, once you've sampled the device on the Azur 651A, you'll wonder why. Connect your PC, Mac or laptop via USB and you're able to access all your stored music and streaming music services. By using USB, you bypass the computer's soundcard for the purest audio output possible. It means your computer can now become a fully integrated part of your hi-fi system without the usual loss in audio quality.

Separate subwoofer output
Also included for the first time is a separate subwoofer output - perfect for using with a compact 2.1 speaker system. As before, the 651A comes with a comprehensive range of other sockets including A/B speakers, twin recording loops, a front-mounted 3.5mm portable input and headphone socket, a pre-output and three further line level inputs. In short, the 651A has the whole lot covered.

Quality internal components
As you'd expect from this leading hi-fi brand, the Cambridge Audio Azur 651A is full of high-spec components. The volume control is the world-renowned ALPS Black Box pot, for superb accuracy and improved channel separation. Low dissipation polypropylene and custom-made electrolytic capacitors ensure low distortion and crystalline levels of detail. Separate transformer taps for left and right channels, twin rectifiers and separate power supplies give exceptional channel separation and, hence, separation of the sound - you'll hear every instrument, as it should sound and in its correct place.

Power to spare
With a hefty 75W per channel, the Azur 651A is one of the most powerful amplifiers in its class, thanks to its oversized toroidal transformer. Despite the power, the Azur 651A is also a model of control. The high capacity heatsink easily dissipates the spent energy, while Cambridge's CAP5 protection system keeps your speakers and the amp protected, without unduly affecting the sound quality.

Class-leading Azur quality
Take in the acoustically damped chassis with curved edges, thick aluminium front panel and sculptural Navigator remote and you could easily mistake the 651A for an amplifier of twice the price. Indeed, even at this level we can think of several designs that would be shamed for finish quality by the Cambridge Audio! Of course, the styling also blends perfectly with the full range of other Azur hi-fi separates.

If you're looking for a powerful yet sweet, fully featured yet sleek, mid-range amplifier, then we can think of little better than Azur 651A. It's truly hard to fault!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So many ways to enjoy music Fantastic sound quality and great value for money. I believe this unit is only available for a short time as they are phasing out this model. Equivalent is about £400 but this was £250. USB slot for playing music from iTunes etc on a PC or laptop is a great function, CD player and tuner inputs, iPod input at the front. Great sound range and very clear throughout the volume levels

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Azur 651A. Very Good Allrounder. My main reason for buying this amplifier was its ability to work with older speakers (vintage Rogers 35 year olds that are still going strong ) .The staff at Cardiff were able to direct me towards the Cambridge 651 through their extended listening to a wide range of amplification. The amp has a smooth sound and is an easy listen. it has 5 R.A.C. phono inputs , then 2 digital and tape out. Ideal if you have other items to connect The USB works well and does away with the need for an external DAC .All in all this is a fine amplifier and will suit replacement of older amps as well as giving you digital connections for the modern world.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent sound and build quality We bought this amplifier to integrate with earlier model tuner and CD player (640T and C respectively) which we bought about 4 years ago. The amp does seem to be completely compatable and the sound quality seems excellent and easily fills our larger than average room (6 x 4 metres). Having said that we might benefit from upgrading the speakers, which are about 25 years old. The USB connection is likely to be useful as we can now watch an opera on the laptop and have sound to do it justice. The unit itself is built like a battleship and I'm confident it will last us well. The only area where I feel there is scope for improvement is in the remote where with a little development it ought to be possible to control all three unit from one handset. Overall we're very satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value Amp Needed to upgrade my ageing NAD 3240PE amplifier and wanted good sound quality without breaking the bank. Paired with my Marantz CD 6004 and B&W 685s speakers my music has come to life again. Hadn't realised how dated my NAD had become. A great amp for the price although lack of a digital input is annoying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Value For Money For the money this is a great amp. Has some good features was easy to set up, and easy to use. Works well with the other Items I bought.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great value for money and first rate performance Excellent value for money. This integrated amplifier has a number of very useful features, and will take up to 5 sepaarate sources. A warm sound with plenty of bass, allowing you to hear everything. Brings out the best in CDs and radio. Even with an added phono pre-amp that will allow inputs from MC and MM cartridges, this is still an affordable hi-fi . It also has the facility to act as a control amp for a power amp and this gives all its outputs even more depth, and more clarity. I ordered by phone, and I was told that delivery would be in a few days. As a courtesy I was given expedited delivery free, and the parcels arrived the following day. This is about as efficient as it gets.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Just Dull Tried this out with various speakers and just wondered why people rate it at all. Just appeared dull and lifeless, with no energy, musicality or subtlety. Ended up buying the Nad D3020 (sorry Richer) which surpasses it in every way and completely lives up to its What HiFi review. It is an outstanding amp for the money if digital is your main source. But usual fabulous service from Richer. Listen to most genres except heavy rock/metal.
