Just when we thought that Cambridge had reached their zenith, they go and do one better! The new Version 2 840A is, unsurprisingly, the finest Cambridge Audio integrated amplifier to date and a genuine audiophile product at a bargain price.

Although an inspired design in the first place, Cambridge Audio have upgraded the 840A for even better sound quality. The unique Class XD amplification in now complemented by a new output stage, revised balanced inputs and a more accurate volume control with lower levels of crosstalk. The resultant "tweaking" gives the 840A V2 superior stereo imaging, reduced distortion and improved depth of sound.

Elsewhere, the 840A V2 is as before, which means that impressive Class XD amplification. Technically speaking this combines the best qualities of Class A amplification - smoothness and realism - with the best from Class B - power and control, without the disadvantages inherent with many Class AB designs. What this means to the listener is a smooth, yet detailed sound quality with the ability to drive almost any speaker and a substantial power output of 120 watts per channel (8 ohms)

As you'd expect from Cambridge Audio, this revolutionary new design is backed up by expert and thorough audio engineering. Separate transformers power the pre and power sections of the 840A V2, whilst only the highest quality components are used throughout, including a sophisticated resistor ladder and relay attenuator for the volume control. Of course, with the 840AV2 being part of the Azur family, it also features a vibration resistant case with 7mm solid aluminium front panel.

Yet it's not just in terms of technical specification where the 840A V2 excels. When it comes to connectivity there are few, if any, that can compete with the Azur 840A Version 2. Conventional phono inputs are offered for no less than 7 components. In addition to this there's also a tape loop, XLR balanced inputs and a hugely flexible multi-room link. When used in conjunction with the Cambridge Incognito system, the 840A V2 can form the basis of a multi-room system that can supply sound and vision up to an incredible 32 rooms! Another string to the 840A V2's bow is the ability for it to work seamlessly within a home cinema system. Fixed level inputs make it easy to use the Azur 840A V2 as the front amplification as part of a home cinema system.
