”Accuracy and unshowiness make the CXUHD one of the outstanding Ultra HD Blu-ray players we've seen (and heard).”
‘What Hi-Fi? magazine’. 5-star review and Group test Winner. Tested at £700.

Equipped for the finest film formats - HDR and Dolby Vision

With the ability to support discs up to 3840 x 2160 (4k) resolution, the CXUHD is the ideal match for your UHD 4K TV. Taking this to the next level, it's also compatible with the HDR and Dolby Vision formats. When used with a compatible TV, these formats give you exceptional brightness, contrast and intense realism that gets closer than ever to studio master.

Transport only for the highest purity sound and vision
By dispensing with a built-in DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor), Cambridge Audio have reduced the potential for electrical interference within the casing. This helps in making both the sound and picture as pure and uncorrupted as possible. It also gives you the choice of which DAC to use. Choose between the one built-in to your home cinema receiver or, for the ultimate sound quality, a dedicated standalone DAC.

Universal disc playback
Designed for the music lover as well as the film buff, the Cambridge CXUHD plays back a massive range of disc formats. As well as UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray (including 3D), DVD and CD it will also play SACD, and DVD-Audio discs, making it a truly universal player.

Twin HDMI outputs
Twin HDMI outputs (HDMI 2.0 and 1.4 audio only) make the CXUHD a flexible playback device. Use one HDMI to output directly to your TV, leaving the other free to carry the audio to your home cinema receiver or amp.

HDMI and twin USB inputs
With HDMI and USB inputs, you can use the CXUHD as a digital hub. The HDMI input is ideal for connecting up a Chromecast, Apple TV or other device and accessing a huge array of smart TV content. The twin USB3.0 sockets get the most out of any smartphone, camcorder or other device connected to them.

Network streaming
With built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet sockets you can connect up the CXUHD to your home network. Thanks to both DLNA and UPnP (Universal Plug n' Play) it's easy to link up to any PCs, laptops or NAS drive units on the network and stream audio, video or photo content.

Smooth style
The CXU is part of the highly-reviewed CX-Series. The distinctive tear-drop profile gives the CXUHD a contemporary look and makes it the ideal partner for the matching AV receivers. Yet it's far more than just a good-looker; the design helps the sound quality, too. With rigid, metal construction and low-resonance, the casing helps shield the player from both mechanical and electrical interference, helping to improve clarity and reduce background noise.

Maximise your movie and music enjoyment, with the multi-tasking Cambridge Audio CXUHD.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exellent picture with stunning sound I had been rather enviously looking at the What Hi-Fi review of the CXUHD for some time but was very reluctant to fork out a relatively large sum for a 4K Blu-ray player to replace my current much cheaper model whic was working okay.. Taking a deep breath, I took the plunge and ordered it, hoping and praying that I would see, and hear, some differences. My hopes and prayers were answered, even after less than one week's use. First of all I should say that it easy to set up and that the picture can be modified to your taste via a number of functions. I’ve found it preferable to stick to the factory settings, after all, if the factories experts can't set it correctly in the first place then who can? The 4K picture has greater clarity and depth than on the model it replaced. The upscaled Blu-ray discs look almost as good as the 4K discs, and the DVDs are not far behind in quality, just a little soft in definition. But it’s the sound that is the most spectacularly improved, whether it be Dolby Atmos, DTS-X, or whatever, they all pack a much heftier punch than I’d previously experienced. Even the sound on mono DVDs is an improvement. The greatest sound delight was on my SACDs, they have never sounded better with absolute clarity between the various instruments and their placement, a real wow!! The greatest surprise I had, although one other reviewer has mentioned it, is that it plays DVDs from all other regions, I have some Region 1 and Region 4 DVDs and they all play without a problem. I can't understand why this is not mentioned in any promotions or reviews, maybe Richer Sounds would like to amend their product information? However Blu-rays are region restricted. Every disc format I’ve tried will resume at whatever point it was stopped, even when being removed from the player after other discs have been played, and that includes 10 year old DVDs, as well as SACDs. There are a number of functions I haven't tried, and probably never wil, but what I have tried is beyond my expectations. My one regret is that I didn’t buy it earlier. Do I recommend it? Absolutely,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Picture!! I have had this player for 2 weeks now bought it to compliment new LG TV. i did my homework on which player to buy and decided to buy this one. it is so good no streaming services built in it does what i wanted from a top end Blu-ray player. it makes normal blu-ray disc look as good as 4k. if looking for a top end 4k player look no further.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thoroughly solid This transport plays everything I ask it to, disc or file, with good quality and without fuss. Just as it says on the tin. I've had a lot of disc players, including some more expensive ones, and so far this is the best of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great so far. Was long overdue buying a proper 4k blu ray player for my LG oled55c7v and i couldn't be more happier. My first 4k movie i watched happened to be Aquaman which blew me away. The picture was so clear as expected but the dolby vision hdr really popped on tge screen. As my tv has all forms of hdr it seemed a no brainer to buy a player that also had this. Playing a few of my old standard 1080p blu rays i noticed the picture again was sharper and more detailed than my last player. Also has a audio out only hdmi port which comes in really handy if you have an older A/V reciever that doesn't play well with 4K passthrough.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from What a disappointment Needed a replacement for my Toshiba SD580EKB DVD player where the disk drive logic had failed and the device was unusable. Was aware of the Richer Sounds shop in Reading and called in there on spec at 11:00, only to find they did not open until 12:00. Bad start. Was allowed in but only given grudging service. Only option suggested was the CXUHD model - accepted, as my son already has a previous model from this brand with strong audio peformance. Got assurances about ability to play multiple formats, but salesman not really interested in what I needed and critically did not want to know about the equipment it would be used with - which is mostly older 'hi-fi' stock rather than modern home cinema kit. So you can imagine my dismay when I came to set up at home to find that the CXUHD has no phono (analogue) outputs for me to connect to my Audiolab pre-amp! Was expecting quality audio output (for the higher price) and got none! Going through the rest of my kit I found that my Pioneer PDR-609 CD recorder has digital inputs so was able to link up with a 75ohm coax lead and get the output to the pre-amp via the Pioneer's monitor output. Cumbersome but at least I got it working, although I have no idea how the DAC on the Pioneer compares with modern standards. I can confirm that there were noticeable improvements in the sound reproduction of commercial CDs and DVDs - as I would expect at the price. The video was less impressive as I just have an ordinary Panasonic HD TV. Over the years I have built up a collection of personal back-ups of radio and TV broadcasts from a variety of recording devices, in recent years mostly Set Top Boxes receving FreeView, FreeSat or other (European) Free To Air broadcasts. The sound recordings are either on CDs or as high bit rate MP3s stored on DVDs for convenience. I'm pleased to say that these played OK with similar improvements to the commercial disks. But it was different story with the TV video recordings. My approach is to take the Transport Stream files from the STB, convert them to Programme Stream MPG files on a PC using Videolan VLC and select out material I wish to save using the Vidomi editor. No part of this process involves re-encoding the video or audio streams, they are left as broadcast with the Codecs used by the broadcaster. The CXUHD proved to be unable to handle the DVD Data Disks containing this type of material - so much for the UNIVERSAL part of the description! Symptoms include freezing when starting to play an MPG file, playing the video but with no sound, and intermittent drop-outs of video and audio. This could vary with different files derived from the same original stream e.g. the four movements of one symphony. None of the broadcasts had copy protecion as I only record SD material. Significantly none of this was the case with the Toshiba DVD player(costing one tenth of the price and with its own DAC) - it played the files just like you were replaying them on the STB recorder. So further dismay and another work round needed. I dismantled the Toshiba, checked out the disk drive - which looked well-engineered and robust, reassembled the connections to the main circuit board and voila - it was back to normal operation! So the work round is to connect the HDMI out from the Tosh to the HDMI-in of the CXUHD and use the Tosh for all the disks that the CXUHD can't play - works admirably and saves needing an extra HDMI-in to the TV. Also gives the option of taking the audio straight to the pre-amp from the Tosh DAC rather than the digital coax route via the Pioneer. It just leaves me wondering what the purpose of the CXUHD is in this scenario. Does it do fancy processing on the video and audio signals or is it just a switch box. Put bluntly, it can't play the disks and has no analogue audio output so what am I getting for my pounds? Some comments on usability - the impressively thick A4 user manual is of very limited use and I fell into the trap (like many others I guess) of the blank screen when you try to adjust the format of the video output. Yes I found the answer by downloading the enlarged manual but wasted a lot of time before I got there. The user interface takes some getting used to with the display split between the front panel and the TV screen, and I'd prefer to navigate with a file manager rather than being directed to choose between media types. The remote control is bizarrely different from all the others I have - I can't imagine who thought the concentric set of different types of controls was a good idea - I doubt that they've ever tried to use it in practice. In recent times I have been storing my personal back-ups on a NAS unit on my home Ethenet LAN (not Internet connected) - the NAS has two separate HDDs but the CXUHD seems to be able to access only one of them - it asks for a user name and password for the other but will not accept anything I set up for this purpose using the NAS management software. However this is not a major problem as the CXUHD does reliably handle the MPG files stored on it anyway! In summary I am largely disappointed with my purchase - it does not live up to my expectations although it can produce good results on a narrow range of inputs. Perhaps there are firmware updates which address it universality issues?? I have to accept some responsibilty for not detecting the lack of a DAC in the product spec. Who produces a CD-player which you can't plug into your hi-fi system - I know the answer to that one now!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very versatile disc player I needed a universal disc player capable of playing a wide variety of disc formats and the Cambridge Audio CXUHD was the only player which offered all of the functionality I required. The unit is very well built and has a substantial but not excessive weight to it. Supplied in the box is the CXUHD, power cable, instruction manual and remote control. After connecting the unit up and switching it on, I connected it to the internet to check for firmware updates. This can be done either wirelessly or via an ethernet connection. I connected to WIFI and it worked straight away. There were 2 firmware updates, which downloaded and installed one at a time without issue. I use an AVR to do all of the audio decoding so the CXUHD, being just a transport and having no DAC's is ideal for me. I have tried it with CD, SACD, DVD, DVD-A, Blu Ray and UHD Blu Ray. All played fine straight off with no issues whatsoever. I was pleased to find that the CXUHD can play both region 1 and 2 DVD's straight out of the box. Having set the HDMI audio output to bitstream, the CXUHD passed all formats I tested straight to the AVR (a Marantz AV8802A) and they were all detected and decoded perfectly. I've tested and can verify that the following all output fine over HDMI as a bitstream signal: Linear PCM (from CD and DVD-Audio) Dolby Digital DTS Dolby True HD DTS HD Master Audio Dolby Atmos DSD (From SACD) When playing UHD Blu Ray discs, The Cambridge Audio CXUHD can also output HDR and supports all current formats (HLG, Dolby Vision and HDR10). I understand that there is a forthcoming firmware update from Cambridge Audio which will also allow it to output HDR10+. All of this means that no matter what you throw at it, the CXUHD can play it without issue. If you have a NAS drive, it will also play files over a network. I've tried it with FLAC files and, once again, it plays them without issue. The unit doesn't have an smart features for services such as Netflix or Amazon Prime but I have other options for these services so it wasn't an issue for me. I mention it only for completeness. I'm very happy with the Cambridge Audio CXUHD and I can highly recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best 4K player and media interface This is a must if you have a video disc and network collection of movies ! Works on 4K , Blu-ray and dvd ( had no region issues so far ) media playback from NAS / Plex server over network ( mp4 , mkv, mt2, all working ) same files also via 2 x USB ports to external hard drive for higher bit rates that won’t work over network - Dolby vision / True HD audio and atmos outputs ! Amazing , A one stop shop for all play back needs

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Audio that brings your mp3 music back to life Richer sounds in Norwich is brilliant and the most helpful customer service I have experienced. They know what they are talking about and are able to guide you to what you require that will meet your needs. I feel they go about and beyond. I will be coming back I hope for many years. Cambridge audio network streamer is brilliant and upscale your mp3 files but using a streamer site such as Qobuz you are really able to see the quality that this network player does. I can’t fault Cambridge audio and with the complete entertainment system I have brought I am sure I will get many years of pleasure from this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CXUHD i have a decent home AV setup but was relying on Sky Q for UHD and my old playstation 2 to play movies. I've recently upgraded to a OLED TV and wanted to try and get the best out of the equipment i already have, So after spending some time researching and deliberating about this unit, with the help of Chris RS Glasgow who took the time to recreate my home setup. i finally made the purchase and I'm really pleased with the remarkable difference in our movie experience. I've only had it 1 week but already watching movies at home is now more like being at the cinema, sound it totally balanced (not connected new tv yet but my old 3D Tv perform well, so really looking forward to viewing in true UHD)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Player, network connections not great Had this a couple of weeks now. Initially very difficult to incorporate into my home network, had to change IP address settings to get files to play. Still indicates failed network connection on first clicking on network, but eventually connects. Performance is actually very good with superb sound and picture. Bit disappointed with response from Richer Sounds Online team when I reported network issue, still awaiting a reply and lucky I had the nous to solve problem myself.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic high end player I've sampled a range of UHD, HD and SD content on this plater so far and its great, detail is fantastically presented, audio is very vibrant and punchy versus the lower end players, Its also very quite in operation and has very fast boot up times. My only slight niggle with the unit and the reason why I've rated this 4/5 is that the remote requires you to point directly at the unit for it to work and seems to struggle even more with the disk tray open, this isn't something I've had an issue with for a very long time, so I'd say its 100% something to improve in the future, especially at this price point. I'd like it to support some other features like netflix and Amazon but understand why it doesn't as its an high end player, but it does make the price slightly harder to justify when these features can be had on the cheapest of units. All in all a very good player but it could have been even better if a few little things were changed.

THE EFFECT ON OUR BLURAY COLLECTION HAS BEEN EVEN MORE STUNNING, THE UPSCALING ABILITIES OF THIS DECK HAVE ASTOUNDED US. SEVERAL OLD FAVOURITES ARE GOING TO NEED REWATCHING NOT JUST FOR THE PICTURE(EVEREST) BUT ALSO THE SOUND (STAR TREK/IRON MAN). HAVEN'T VIEWED ANY 4K DISCS AS YET BUT BASED ON THE BLURAYS WE REALLY CAN'T WAIT. THIS PLAYER HAS UPGRADED VERY PART OF OUR SOUND SYSTEM, I GUESS IT'S LIKE VINYL, START WITH THE SOURCE.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Review in Whats Hi-Fi does not match with 1.- This is a transport, not a player. 2.- If i want the one with the UK flag in front, i do not find it anyway. 3.- It can be use just in Europe, as zone 2. So if you want to bring it to america or southamerica (zones 1 & 4) would not work. Great product just for british (made for british, by british)!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really worth the time I spent researching I am so pleased that I purchased the Cambridge UHD Blu-ray player. I usually spend around £300+ on such items but, whilst researching, I kept coming back to the Cambridge, boy am I glad I did, everything from the outer packaging to the packing inside, not forgetting the unit itself, is pure class, British at that. It is really simple to set, practically does it itself. So far only tried a standard disc and a blu-ray disc. I had a old top of the range Panasonic prior, but the picture for the standard disc was equal, if not better to the picture I got on the old panasonic, so you can imagine what I am going to say about the picture, and sound, for the blu-ray, well you already know. I did ask the RS guy if I there anything better and he did say then Oppo, I asked "what the oppo UDP 203" and he said no the 205, which at over a £1000 re-assured me I was making the right choice. As soon as The unit was set up updates were available to down load. Don't get me wrong, I am no expert on anything such as vision and sound but I do know I have made the right choice,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great video and sound Bought the Cambridge a couple of weeks ago and have not been disappointed with the quality of video and audio playback. 4k stuff looks great, as should be expected from a premium machine but I have also been impressed with the 1080p up-scaling as well as the improvement in SD representation. After considering alternatives I chose this machine following review research, a demo in the Newcastle store and a degree of brand loyalty given I had previously owned a 751BD which I would probably still be using if 4k had never arrived. Although pricey, its built very solidly and should last for years.

Be prepared for your jaw to drop as you live this new life of 4k at its best.
