A fully equipped phono stage that's suitable for any turntable, including ones equipped with MC cartridges, the Cambridge CP2 brings out the very best in vinyl.

A chance to play vinyl or a significant upgrade on what you already have

Plenty of today's hi-fi equipment doesn't have the ability to plug in a turntable. With the Cambridge CP2 that's quickly rectified, as this phono pre-amp simply plugs into any standard AUX input, allowing your records to be heard at the correct volume level. Even if your hi-fi does have a built-in phono stage, it's still worth considering the CP2. High quality components, a dedicated power supply and fully shielded case all make themselves heard with considerably better sound quality than the vast majority of built-ins.

MC cartridge compatibility
One of the biggest advances over its little brother, the CP1, is the ability to amplify MC (Moving Coil) cartridges. These have an even lower output than MM (Moving Magnet) cartridges and therefore require dedicated amplification. Once correctly amplified, however, the sound quality is stunning with a smoother yet more detailed sound usually possible. If you're serious about vinyl then fitting a good quality MC cartridge is an upgrade that comes highly recommended.

Class-leading sound quality
This high quality design features single-ended 'Class A' gain stages and discrete transistors, instead of the more common integrated circuits. This gives less cross-talk and interference across the signal path. There's also copper shielding of sensitive circuits and premium grade, multi-parallel capacitors for even higher levels of sonic accuracy. What this means for sound quality is a rich, full-bodied sound that's also low on distortion and very quiet in terms of background noise.

Subsonic filter
The CP2 comes fitted with a switchable subsonic filter. This helps limit low frequency 'rumble' caused by vinyl imperfections and helps protect your speakers from excessive wear.

Exquisite style and build
You'd never guess that this is a budget phono stage by looking at it. Featuring an all-metal casing with sleek, aluminium front panel and smoothly rounded edges the CP2 could easily pass for a more expensive design. Available in black or silver, the teardrop shape is also the perfect match for the awarding-winning Cambridge CX-range of amps.

Rediscover the joys of vinyl with the flexible Cambridge CP2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent phono pre-amp The Cambridge Audio CP2, like all the other Cambridge products that I have purchased from Richer, is very well built and sounds great. It's very handy to have an external switch to select between moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, (as opposed to some phono pre-amps where you have to unscrew the lid and mess about changing links - usually nano-size and very fiddly - on the circuit board. I have one of these.). The CP2 also has a pair of phono sockets for each type of cartridge, so you can hook up 2 vinyl decks - one with a MM cartridge and one with a MC cartridge - although I myself haven't tried this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from cambridge audio cp2 I purchased this phono stage one week ago its had about 40 hours use and is already warmer and sweeter than from new. It is performing a above my expectation and I am now considering using it with an moving coil cartridge. Well done cambridge audio.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value fro money I bought this to use on a system in my home office and I plugged it in between my LP12/Syrinx PU3/Dynavector 17D2 and an old Naim NAC 62 preamp (in place of the onboard MC phono on the 40 year old Naim). Straight out of the box and stone cold from the delivery van this impressed me. Clear, pretty dynamic and slightly warm without being flabby. OK, it doesn't compete with my big system but in my opinion, this is a great audio bargain, particularly at the price point!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but needs more gain. I bought a black CP2 to partner a Pro-ject Carbon UKX turntable fitted with an Ortofon Quintet Blue moving coil cartridge. I already have an 840A V2 amp, so wanted a matching phono stage which would handle an MC cartridge. It's an neat, attractive, well-finished unit. And once it's had a couple of days to burn in really opens up to provide a powerful, dynamic sound and a good wide sound stage. Really it's brilliant for the money, as good or better than the £260 MM phono stage it replaced. Really the only downside is that the gain isn't high enough. The Quintet is a low output MC, but not as low as some and very forgiving. But I find I have to turn my amp up higher than I would like. Don't get me wrong, it still sounds great, but it magnifies any background noise or hum because I have to turn it up that much higher, and I have to very finicky about turning off any other hifi components on the rack. The MC gain is 55dB, when it could really have done with being 60 or 63.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does exactly what it says Allowed me to use my moving coil cartridge with my new amplifier with no loss of quality

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than anticipated I use a Project Xperience turntable/carbon arm/ Ortofon Quintet Blue Moving Coil cartridge/Cambridge Audio 851A amp/Quad 23L floor standers. I bought the CP2 on a whim to see if it was any better than my 651P. Well, it is. Having played a number of albums I can say that, to me, the sound is airier, the soundstage a little more solid, and the bass has more definition. The double bass in the first track on the Miles Davis album Kind of Blue and the mix of the track Never is Too Late from the Joan Armatrading album Show Some Emotion illustrate this well. The bass on the Miles Davis track is just that bit better defined with more body, and the dense mix of the Joan Armatrading track is just that bit better resolved. The 651P was already good for the money, the CP2 is that bit better. Something of a bargain.
