Richer Sounds exclusive model

"If you've already got a good DAC, the Cambridge CXC transport is a no-brainer." 'What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision magazine'. 5-star review.

Transport-only design

The Cambridge CXC is a CD transport only, so inside you'll only find 'half' of what's usually inside a CD player. Although this may sound unconventional, it has many benefits. The most obvious of these is cost effectiveness, but there are sonic benefits to be had, too. Without an onboard DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor), the power supply only has to drive the CD transport. By being dedicated to this task it can provide a clean, stable power supply for the highest performance possible at its price.

Pair with your choice of DAC
Another advantage is increased flexibility. Chose to match with one of the Cambridge CXA digital amplifiers or use your own choice of DAC entirely. By starting with such a high quality transport design, the CXC could see you through many system and DAC upgrades without being in the least bit out of place.

S3 servo
Rather than using 'off the shelf' CD software, Cambridge uses its own S3 servo processor. Dedicated to CD music playback rather than the multi-purpose disc readers, the CXC maximises the full potential of your audio CDs. With state-of-the-art error correction your CDs simply sound more realistic, more dynamic and more detailed than with other players.

Sleek style
The CXC is part of the totally redesigned CX-Series. The distinctive tear-drop profile gives the CXC a contemporary look and makes it the ideal partner for the digital amplifiers and network player. Yet it's far more than just a good-looking case - it helps the sound quality, too. With rigid, metal construction and low-resonance design, the casing helps shield the player from both mechanical and electrical interference, helping to improve clarity and reduce background noise.

Dedicated to the finest sound from CD possible, the Cambridge CXC CD transport redefines CD playback quality at its price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The cxc was faulty The Cambridge cxc had dropout when playing most cds. I had to return it as it was unusable. Shame because the sound was good but dropout meant it was dreadful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful crispness and warmth I missed listening to my old CD’s and hadn’t had a functioning CD player for several years. After a lot of research I found this and it has made my old CD’s sing through my new Pioneer AV unit via optical cable. Can’t believe how good they sound together so I highly recommend this unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely full and rich sound Got rid of an old Rega Apollo cd player after ripping all my cd's to hard disc. Just missed having a cd player, so did a little research and decided to buy the Cambridge Audio CXC cd transport. Conected via an optical cable to a Naim Unitiqute and what came out was so very pleasurable, sounded more like vinyl than what I used to hear from cd players of the past. Great service fron Richersounds of Eton.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound in small room Got an excellent deal - a bit of an upgrade to what I was planning to buy and a huge upgrade from what I previously had. Help and guidance from Richer Sounds was invaluable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cambridge CXC + DacMagic I purchased the DACmagic some years ago, primarily for the balanced outputs and convectively.so 3 weeks ago I brought my CXC from my local richer sounds. The guys in the store are very knowledgeable and helpful for a smooth transaction.the unit was easy to install and get up and running.after 6 or 7 hours of running in the CXC the quality came shining through with taut bass lovely miss with no splashy top end.i live in an old house that is suseptable to electrical interference which causes the spdif input on the DACmagic to dropout,so the CXC also has a toslink output which I hooked up to the DAC.it works v well with no drop out and no difference in SQ. the remote feels really nice to use + the remote can dim and turn off the display on the CXC.it also plays CDR.its a great product that will reinvigorate your CD collection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a piece of kit!!!! I bought this a couple of weeks ago and am really surprised by the quality (both build and sound). Note though that this is a transport only and needs to be used with a separate DAC so you can't connect directly to your system. I am using with a Dacmagic 100 and it's superb. I will admit that when first connected I wasn't too happy with the sound but following a very informative phone call to the store, it was suggested that it will take some time to 'burn' in and the sound will become warmer. He was right. After about 40 hours it has warmed and become smoother. It's now got a wonderful sound and I'm really pleased with it. Congratulations to Cambridge Audio for making a great transport and to Richer Sounds for the advice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sound when paired with the CXA60 Using this in conjunction with the CXA60 amplifier. The CXC and CXA60 both come supplied with a co-axial digital cable, despite advice on the box that no cable is included. The sound is so much better than I was getting from the Sony blu-ray player that I was using before. The downsides are that it does not play mp3 discs and the remote does not have the facility to pick a particular track number - you have to use the skip track button instead of selecting a track number. A useful feature is that the remote is the same as the one for the matching amplifier, so if you have both units then you can operate them with the same remote. So when I power them off with the remote both units are turned off. With regard to sound... I love the vocals and percussion. Also saxophone has a real warmth. Breathing new life to my CD collection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The CD is not dead! An excellent sounding player which really is the name of the game. It's sole job is to play Audio C D's which it does very well indeed. If your looking for an all bells and whistles plays every digital format then you should be looking at something else. This is a CD Transport only and as such requires D A C (digital to analogue converter) to connect to an amplifier Some amplifiers have these built in if your amp' does not have one you will need a stand alone D A C to complete the connection to your system. If in doubt, consult your local Richer Sounds dealer who will be only to happy to help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product, exellent service! I bought Cambridge CXC transport 29/12/2019 and delighted with a product and service at Ritcher Sounds in Bromley. I am using it with amplifier Cambridge CX 80 and speakers DALI OPTICON 6 and the sound quality is amazing, very clean.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Service I have come to expect from RS It arrived in less than 24 hours from placing the order. As an RS customer for around 35 the CXC is what I expect from them and Cambridge Audio. Functional rather than Flash, it does the job well without making a fuss about it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why would you buy a cd transport? Unlike a CD player the Cambridge audio cd transport is pretty much future proof. As it is a precision instrument that is designed to get the digital information as precisely as possible to whatever dac you use. This gives the listener the chance to upgrade their stereo, whilst retaining the best possible transporter. I’ve enjoyed listening to my cds that I’ve collected over 30 years, hearing how different the music sounds from the earlier CD players. This is a great machine and has surpassed expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clearly, a great player I purchased the CXC transport, bundled with a Cambridge Audio DACMagic Plus, after my Shanling CDT-100 finally gave up the ghost, following 12 years of solid service. I had always thought that the Shanling produced a great sound (if slightly soft, being a valve player). The Cambridge Audio duo showed what I’d been missing all these years – detail! For sure, out of the box, the treble is a little harsh and the bass a little light. However, with 15-20 hours of use, the treble smooths out, and the bass becomes deep and solid. The DACMagic plus comes with a basic “get you started” digital coaxial cable, but upgrading to a high quality cable (such as the Audioquest Cinnamon) will bring massive audio benefits. As I’ve mentioned, it’s the clarity and detail of the CXC and DACMagic that is their most appealing aspect – every instrument, every vocal line is clearly and openly enunciated. It’s not clinical, just beautifully refined and clear. I’ve yet to find a disc that this combo can’t handle with aplomb. Having owned CD players from Roksan, Quad and Musical Fidelity in the past, I wasn’t sure how this transport / DAC from Cambridge Audio would sound, in comparison. As it turns out, it’s amazing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Back to the silver disc Back to a CD player after 4years and a good choice . I have a good CD collection and a good rega dac so got a bit of an itch to go back and so glad I did. At this price a much fuller sound than my streamer . So if you already have a great CD collection and Dac bang for buck get one of these great sounding transporters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid build quality and great sound My experience of Cambridge Audio kit is that it is always well built, and the CXC is no exception. Superbly solid build quality, yet simple to use. No frills or gimmicks, this does the job it was built to do. Sound quality is wonderful, really helping to showcase well produced CDs, and pull the layers of sound apart so they can be appreciated. Set up was a breeze, and within minutes of having it out of the box (in which it was well packaged - another testament to the quality of Cambridge Audio kit) and connected to the rest of my AV kit, it was playing discs. Paired to the CXA this works really well, and makes listening to CDs a real delight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sounds so bright, excellent detail Bought to upgrade a very aged CD player and I'm so impressed by the detail of the sound I'm falling back in love with many of my old out of circulation CD's. I'd almost written CD's as a format due to buying only vinyl for the last two years but this has brought my CD collection back to life and better than I remember!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from There is life in CDs after all After gravitating from a largely CD based collection to Vinyl and HiRes downloads due to perceived higher sound quality I was thinking hard if I should even replace a decent but aged and finally broken Yamaha CD player in my secondary set-up. Glad I did though - the first notes that came out of the CXC through a modest CA DacMagic blew me away and I keep on replaying CDs long forgotten and finding new nuances constantly. The CD tray mechanism alone is a joy to operate with it's smooth and almost completely silent operation. So my CD collection has gained a new lease of life and the CXC will move to my primary listening set-up replacing a much more expensive disc-spinner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for Entering Bought several CDs from Japan and don’t know what to do with them. Was using Sony X-800 blue ray player as CDT in the US, however it annoys me a bit since I don’t have a screen for it. So I decided to get a pure cdt to use, and CXC was suggested by my friend. The only complain for CXC I can have is the size, others seemly all good. I was using X800 and hugo2 as a set before, CXC+dacmagicPlus gets a better sound very significant. In fact dacmagic thing obvious can’t reach the dac level as hugo2, however CXC provides a lot better details so the comparison become very easy.
Date published: 2019-09-24
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sound when matched with a good dac. This is my second CXC as my first was returned under warranty due to a quality issue. I was happy to have a replacement unit rather than a refund as I am delighted with the sound quality when coupled with a decent dac. Here's hoping the build quality problem was a one off!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cd player Great CD player, teamed up with a dac. Or it won’t work. Highly recommend cd transport. Just wish it had track number on the remote, but 5at would mean more stuff in the CD player I suppose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product and advice I bought this on advice to complement my CXA and so pleased i did, the sound is amazing si when i .anage to save enough will get in and complete the set up with the CXN

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant piece of kit I was about to purchase a CD player when I read a couple of reviews for the Cambridge Transport, and to be honest I had no idea what a Transport actually was? The review explained that providing I had a good DAC, which I did in the Cambridge 851N then this was a good option over a stand along CD Player. Finally how right the review was because the sound is just brilliant and I can honestly say that a Transport is the way to go if you have a decent DAC.
