” The Sony HT-ST5000 takes the Dolby Atmos soundbar to new heights.” ’What Hi-Fi?’ 2019 award-winner.

7.1.2 S-Force PRO Front Surround technology

Thanks to its sophisticated processing, upward firing speakers and separate subwoofer, the Sony HT-ST500 gives a totally immersive sound – all from just two boxes. Coaxial speakers help deliver a precisely aligned soundstage while, at the same time, keeping the unit as compact as possible. Hugely immersive sound doesn’t get much more accessible than this!

Compatible with Dolby Atmos for totally immersive sound
Thanks to its unique speaker array this Sony soundbar is compatible with Dolby Atmos. This highly sophisticated processor renders images in three dimensions that conventional processing can't match. Producing a multi-dimensional and totally immersive sound, it's just like being at the cinema!

Powerful bass from a wireless subwoofer
A separate subwoofer frees up the soundbar from the compromise of doing two jobs at once. Instead it remains dedicated to the task of providing a holographic 3D sound stage, leaving the subwoofer free to provide deep, cinema-like bass. What's more, with it being a wireless subwoofer you're free to position it anywhere within the room without the hassle of a connection wire between it and the soundbar.

Hi-Res Audio compatible
Being compatible with Hi-Res music files makes the Sony HT-ST5000 ideal for listening to your favourite music at the highest quality possible. With better-than-CD quality, you get to hear every subtle detail for breathtaking realism. Whatever the genre, music sounds better in Hi-Res.

Wireless streaming with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
For easy access to music on your smartphone or tablet, simply connect up via Bluetooth. This Sony soundbar is also equipped with the Sony developed codec, LDAC, giving CD-quality sound from Bluetooth audio streaming. The HT-ST5000 comes with Wi-Fi, too, letting you stream music from a host of online services.

Google Chromecast built-in
Chromecast lets you stream music, podcasts and audio apps, including Google Play, at the touch of a button. Having it built-in saves the battery life on your phone as the phone's Bluetooth transmission system isn't used for this purpose. Being able to stream straight from the cloud also gives the best audio quality.

Bring your music together with Sony SongPal
Download SongPal for your smartphone or tablet and take control of your music collection. Simply connect over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and you'll have seamless access to all your favourite tracks, whether they're stored on your PC, server, or online music service. The app can also be used to customise sound settings to ensure great, balanced audio, and control multi-room listening.

Three HDMI connections for total system flexibility
Connecting up the Sony HTST5000 is easy and, thanks to the HDMI interface it makes the ideal home entertainment system hub. Simply connect your HD sources, such as digital TV box, games console and Blu-ray player via HDMI then link to your TV via another HDMI and you're good to go: immersive sound from all your sources.

HDR compatible
The HDMI sockets are compatible with HDR and HDCP2.2 , meaning they'll work with the current generation of UHD 4K Blu-ray players and TVs. Other inputs include an optical digital input, USB and 3.5mm mini-jack for your music sources.

Soundbar or Sound base soundbar
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing. Over promised and under delivering Have been living with mine for a few months now as a replacement to a 5.1 system and I’ve been pretty disappointed overall. Sound is ok but not brilliant- quite muddy, even with voice enhanced. Atmos is not very convincing. Options for customising sound are pretty limited. The Music Center app is absolutely dreadful, and disappointing that it won’t connect with Alexa. Over promised and overpriced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great sound system, well worth considering. Sound bars do have limitations, but unless you don't mind looking at acres of speakers they are probably the best solution to improving the rather tiny sound of most flat screen TV's. This sound bar doesn't disappoint and if you can hide the sub behind a sofa it's a very neat comprise. Good with all range of media output movies, straight talking, music etc. I'm impressed, but still looking forward to the day I can hear perfect sound quality without seeing speakers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A lockdown project - well worth it. After reading many reviews, decided on this, not least because I have Sony tv and Blu-ray player. My wife didn't want wires all round the place, so self contained unit was a priority. Thanks to lockdown, had plenty of time to make a job of fitting to wall and hiding all the cables. one comment about design, why does the mains cable enter the unit at the other end to the HDMI cables? Didn't cause any particular issues, but limits amount of mains cable to play with when connecting up. Set up was really straightforward, the woofer wouldn't talk to the unit for a while, then decided it would. Sound quality is brilliant, transforms listening to the TV, and love the Bluetooth, lots of music being played at the moment. Took a while to settle on this one, but really glad we did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality & Full Featured Product Bought this to replace an aging South Korean soundbar. Relatively expensive but a solid & quality product featuring Doby Atmos which is a perfect match for my XG87 Sony TV. It's heavy at 8.8kg (soundbar only) but mounted easily using two 90° angle brackets rather than the Sony suggested wall fixing method. Excellent feature set and sounds great so worth that little bit extra outlay. One criticism is that the front grill fixes magnetical rather than pop-stud style so care is required when wall mounting; mount first then a fix the grill as it easily detaches while handling. Other than that perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality - build and sound I purchased this sound bar just before Xmas and have been waiting to give a review until now. The build quality and overall sound quality better than expected from a soundbar. Connectivity and operation are seamless as all input sources switch over HDMI when they are turned on. It is worth playing around with the atmos settings until you get the best effect. So far I'm extremely happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound Bought this to go with a new TV and it’s fantastic. The sound quality is superb and makes TV viewing and listening to music so much better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This bar really is easy to use I’m still getting used to all the features but delighted so far, set up was easy including the bluetooth connections. I have seen reviews moaning about the woofer unit mine works well and can be adjusted to play music of all genre just as they sound in reality. Pleased with purchase despite the price tag it IS WORTH IT !

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good when it works however has reliability issues First off, this bar is very expensive and when it works it's great but there's issues with the sub disconnecting in addition to issues arising from regular use and longevity if you read other reviews. I had two of these. The first sounded good but had been damaged in transit so a replacement was ordered. This bar has on screen display is built in and the video processor ran red hot on the top centre of the it's casing which I'm led to believe is one of the core issues with the bar. The sub was extremely unpredictable in some scenes namely scene two of Dunkirk and it simply couldn't handle it. The second bar...the sub wouldn't connect no matter what. Tested in store and was found to be faulty. Gutted as I really wanted one of these as they do sound great but there are better and cheaper options out there I think. If you buy this then you take the chance of it working or not but one thing is essential... Richer sounds six year warranty is a must have!!! Do your research before you consider buying this or find a store to demo it in. As usual Dale Euan Sam and Anis were amazing as always in the Newcastle store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound from an excellent soundbar I bought this about 2 weeks ago and so far am really pleased with the build quality, superb sound and flexibility. Compliments the Bravia TV brilliantly

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Sound I have had this for a couple of years and the sound is amazing. It really ramps up the movie experience as Dolby Atmos and DTS X fill the room with sound and helps create the atmosphere of the image on screen. Only downside is connectivity hiccups when changing devices. I have Sky Q, Sony 4K Bluray and PS4 connected and sometimes takes a while for the sound bar to register which device is playing. Not a major issue but a little annoying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top sound but at a price I bought this a couple of weeks ago. I wanted immersive sound for movies and quality sound for my music collection without having to fill the room with speakers. It is expensive, but definitely delivers. Sound is clear with no noticeable distortion as you pump up the volume. It can play all the latest sound formats and has a wide range of adjustments to get the best possible sound whatever the format or source. I read the What Hifi review before buying these speakers and agree with everything it says. My only criticism is that the different sound modes have to be scrolled through sequentially which is a bit annoying, and could have been easily addressed by additional buttons on a slightly larger remote control. Otherwise it is really hard to fault. I’ve tried cheaper soundbars and soundboxes with good write ups which do a reasonable job if you just want better sound when watching TV, but this Sony soundbar is really Is on another level for sound quality and the range of adjustments that are available. Spend the money if you can afford it, it is worth every penny.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Excellent Sound This soundbar has excellent sound and clarity but let down by not being able to add rear Sony speakers which it desperately needs when cheaper soundbars in the Sony range can! I did not realise this at the time of purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive sound I bought this Sony HTST5000 a couple of weeks ago and so far I'm very impressed with the sound especially from 4K UHD Blu-ray's; although at times I think that Sony could have added the option for rear surround speakers and manual settings as well as the pre-sets. So if your looking for a Dolby Atmos SoundBar, the Sony HTST5000 was made for you.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Video upscaling, non existent Dolby ATMOS The audio visual aspect of this speaker is very good - read other reviews for specifics. I want to point out however that the Dolby ATMOS from this sound bar is non existent. There is zero 3D sound and any claim that you will hear sounds above you (bouncing off the ceiling) is pure marketing. The rest of what is provided in this package is very good - I have no regrets purchasing it, I just wish I'd know how effective the ATMOS was before buying as I would have opted for a multi speaker option instead.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Has Issues It’s a bit of a beast and when I got it I was impressed off the bat, it feels the room with a great immersive sound. The wireless sub was easy to setup and had been a solid performer. Sadly my disappointment started when the unit started emitting a high pitch sound randomly when watching movies, in the example attached 40mins into LoTR this happened, it’s not just this film and always at different times. I’ve replaced cables and my Blu-ray player. Now I dread having anyone over to watch a film

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Top sound bar I bought this soundbar after reading reviews about it and i must say that it is every bit as good as reviews suggest. The only downside is the price is very expensive but if you can afford it buy with confidance

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good alternative to a home cinema setup I've always had a dedicated home cinema system with 5- 7 speakers. After moving into a smaller property space was restricted. Having looked at a wide range of sound bars, I wanted something that worked with all audio formats such as DTS-X and Dolby Atmos. Decided to give the Sony HTST5000 ago and have been impressed. The system produces clear vocals great effects and more so the bass is controlled and doesn't take over the whole system. Rumbels are present with authority and fill the room effortlessly. The other advantage this sound has is the AV Amp style set up menu which is great of adjust speaker level and distance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product loved it so much bought another I liked it so much decided not to put speakers in the ceiling when re-doing house, purchased additional hi-res speakers and hid them behind curtain palmets in each room. wired through Ethernet and got electrician to add electrical socket behind curtain pelmets. Sounds great when grouping speakers using google products.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for films, not sure about games or music! Ok, Generally it sounds great for films, although I still need to mess about with the settings to max out the surround and Atmos. My Windows 10 PC found the sound bar and installed Dolby Atmos. Great. As far as Bravia Sync..well my Sony 3DTV and 3D Blu-ray doesn't pick it up despite having all plugged into the sound bar. Don't think the bar has MHL which might be the issue and Bluetooth doesn't pick out the TV and visa versa. Sky Q picks up Dolby Atmos through the bar (if you have the 2Gig version) Sound quality doesn't match my aging Arcam A85 and CD92 CD player through B&W CDM1s speakers. However it ain't bad at all for what you get. Overall it sounds as good as your gonna get out of a soundbar if you can't oblige a separate speaker setup. Films will blow you away and the sub is stonking and overkill if you max it out. Got all the Dolby and DTS settings you can have currently (as far as I know) although not readily obvious when you put a film on. Occasionally the setting may show on screen at the start of a film via BR but you can select it via the remote. It just picks it up. Always wanted a good surround bar as I can't have the full works due to space and the Mrs.. I'll let you work that one out ;-) Paid £1200 notes and quick delivery from RS. Recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from super sound clarity and dynamic!!! I bought this soundbar system 3 weeks ago and i am very happy what a sound and i am a critical it replace a high end system but come near to high range monitor speakers the best buy this year.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sound quality I have had this sound bar for about a year. The sound quality is great. Did not support Dts to start with and had trouble displaying input when HDMI was in enhanced mode but that's been fixed with updates. Very modest atmos effects after a lot of tinkering. It would be a perfect sound bar if it had an option of having rear speakers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great connectivity and awesome soundbar Brilliant for small living room. Good separation for a sound bar, crystal clear and strong bass. Works amazingly well for music, with easy connectivity.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sounding soundbar I bought this soundbar to upgrade my 5.1 system to Dolby Atmos. Very pleased with powerful sound effects. Would have given 5 stars if it had rear speakers, that would make it perfect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product I bought this after reading reviews and listening to some other disappointing lower priced Sony soundbar products. The overall sound quality is good. I bought it because I like Sony products and for compatibility with my Bravia TV and Blu-Ray player. The user interface can be improved. The synchronisation with other devices works, but can be slow. Switching between sources is clumsy. The remote is clumsy. But, overall I recommend and am pleased with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ST5000 I bought this along with a Sony KD55AF8. The only complaint I have is that with the tv the stand and tv sit directly on to the flkoor tv stand and there is no room for the sound bar to be fitted in front. I have therefore had to position the osund bar on the first shelf under the tv which will take away some of the effect of the 2 top facing speakers. I hope I do not notice the difference. I think Sony has forgotten about this situation with their products design.
