” The Sony HT-ST5000 takes the Dolby Atmos soundbar to new heights.” ’What Hi-Fi?’ 2019 award-winner.

7.1.2 S-Force PRO Front Surround technology

Thanks to its sophisticated processing, upward firing speakers and separate subwoofer, the Sony HT-ST500 gives a totally immersive sound – all from just two boxes. Coaxial speakers help deliver a precisely aligned soundstage while, at the same time, keeping the unit as compact as possible. Hugely immersive sound doesn’t get much more accessible than this!

Compatible with Dolby Atmos for totally immersive sound
Thanks to its unique speaker array this Sony soundbar is compatible with Dolby Atmos. This highly sophisticated processor renders images in three dimensions that conventional processing can't match. Producing a multi-dimensional and totally immersive sound, it's just like being at the cinema!

Powerful bass from a wireless subwoofer
A separate subwoofer frees up the soundbar from the compromise of doing two jobs at once. Instead it remains dedicated to the task of providing a holographic 3D sound stage, leaving the subwoofer free to provide deep, cinema-like bass. What's more, with it being a wireless subwoofer you're free to position it anywhere within the room without the hassle of a connection wire between it and the soundbar.

Hi-Res Audio compatible
Being compatible with Hi-Res music files makes the Sony HT-ST5000 ideal for listening to your favourite music at the highest quality possible. With better-than-CD quality, you get to hear every subtle detail for breathtaking realism. Whatever the genre, music sounds better in Hi-Res.

Wireless streaming with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
For easy access to music on your smartphone or tablet, simply connect up via Bluetooth. This Sony soundbar is also equipped with the Sony developed codec, LDAC, giving CD-quality sound from Bluetooth audio streaming. The HT-ST5000 comes with Wi-Fi, too, letting you stream music from a host of online services.

Google Chromecast built-in
Chromecast lets you stream music, podcasts and audio apps, including Google Play, at the touch of a button. Having it built-in saves the battery life on your phone as the phone's Bluetooth transmission system isn't used for this purpose. Being able to stream straight from the cloud also gives the best audio quality.

Bring your music together with Sony SongPal
Download SongPal for your smartphone or tablet and take control of your music collection. Simply connect over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and you'll have seamless access to all your favourite tracks, whether they're stored on your PC, server, or online music service. The app can also be used to customise sound settings to ensure great, balanced audio, and control multi-room listening.

Three HDMI connections for total system flexibility
Connecting up the Sony HTST5000 is easy and, thanks to the HDMI interface it makes the ideal home entertainment system hub. Simply connect your HD sources, such as digital TV box, games console and Blu-ray player via HDMI then link to your TV via another HDMI and you're good to go: immersive sound from all your sources.

HDR compatible
The HDMI sockets are compatible with HDR and HDCP2.2 , meaning they'll work with the current generation of UHD 4K Blu-ray players and TVs. Other inputs include an optical digital input, USB and 3.5mm mini-jack for your music sources.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good features and sound is excellent i bought this product on reading the reviews and i am not disappointed

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Impressive Dolby Atmos & DTSX Upgraded to this soundbar from Sony 5.1 theatre system so I could experience Dolby Atmos with my new 4K Sony tv and 4K blu ray player. Sound has a real punch on Atmos and the immersive sound is quite impressive considering it's just the soundbar. Great that there was a software update for DTSX. Really disappointed I'm unable to listen to SACDs, which I could on my old theatre system, as no DSD through soundbar. Odd that my Sony UBP-X800 can play SACDs but Sony have decided the soundbar shouldn't. I noticed the cheaper Sony HT-ZF9 will support SACDs, how about a Sony software SCAD upgrade for those have the more expensive HT-ST5000?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant for Serious Classical Music Lovers The product was easy to set up and connectivity availability good. Able to connect other products; TV and Tuner (not Sony), and Sony Blu-Ray player with ease. Sound from DAB+ tuner sounds excellent even though reduced from 7.1 to 5.1 channels. Streaming from Chromecast and Spotify very easy to set up. Gave the sound bar a real test from the outset, playing Mahler's 2nd Symphony, which it coped with superbly, both instrumentally and vocally. Sounding like you were there in the concert hall. Expensive, but worth every penny.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Clear Sound This is a great product. The sound is very clear from speech to individual orchestra instruments. When you turn the TV on or off the sound bar also is turned on or off. It would be very useful if it would switch to Bluetooth when it detects a linked item (when the TV is off) and then switch off when the linked item is off or not playing music etc. It would also be useful to switch between different inputs more easily. I keep going past Bluetooth because I can’t tell whether it will move with one click or two! You have to be a contortionist to get the leads in the back. In my case I had to hold the bar then try and line up the hdmi lead the right way round all very fiddly. With hindsight I should have put all the leads in first with the sound bar on the floor, then lifted it up and connect to the other units!! A good job I didn’t want them wall mounted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Although quite expensive, this is a fantastic sound bar. I have it hooked up to my 65" LG OLEDB7 and it's a match made in heaven. Superb sound and it looks great too. Once again, Sony does not disappoint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound and features Using for about a month. Sound is excellent but care is needed to set up sound properly. Great also with music too although used primarily for films and tv. As usual Sony raise the bar!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from superb sound I bought this product two weeks ago, very happy with the sound with Blu-Ray and 4k discs, music even better, plenty of volume and with good separation and a nice even bass with good volume control. Setting up was another matter as no matter how I tried I could get no sound from the television through the arc hdmi cable and after much swapping of cables I had to connect with the optical cable now everything is fine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best compromise For a sound bar this is very good. You'll never beat a true 5.1 sound sound system but this is problem a good as it gets in terms of an alternative. I really like the different choice of sound screens - movie, sports etc as they do all sound different.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top quality sound Easy to set up out of the box good intuitive home screen and it sounds great. A really top quality soundbar and sub worth the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great clarity and quality; dubious Atmos, pricey. This is a really great soundbar, that has fantastic clarity, huge volume, and many useful features. While I haven't tried too many atmos sources yet, I haven't been blown away by those that I have: it's not a replacement for a real surround setup. If this bar was cheaper, I'd be absolutely delighted with it - my only reservations about it come from the price. It's better than the alternatives I looked at, but not by as much as the price difference would suggest. I'm not sure that, in the cold light of day, I could recommend this above less expensive alternatives.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Dolby atmos sound Had this item for a fortnight and for the most part a positive purchase. Would like the option of mini speakers to give a more surround sound Behind you. The sound quality is still very good though with plenty of bass. Good product but very expensive. I would like to see on the soundbar when the sound is producing Dolby Atmos as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth it ! Brought a Sony A1 Tv with this sound bar sounds fantastic and have it set up for tv movies and pc with customisation sound presets that can be saved. It was that impressive when i tested with dolby atmos files and 4k blu rays compared to the tv speakers itself which was not bad either, other family members went and brought the same setup too. Used bluetooth to connect bose wireless headphones no trouble at all and use it to play hi-res music from Sony xperia z2 and it sounds great. I also use a 2006 Sony NW-A1200 walkman which i could connect via aux jack nice to see i can connect older hardware to it. Granted a bit pricey but as I don't change this equipment very often it was well worth the investment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Don’t support surround speakers Good quality soundbar however not brilliant with surround sound either atmos, if you could add speakers like the zr5 and have them added with surround sound/atmos effect (on par with the Samsung hk950 I believe it will be out standing until then I wouldn’t recommend it

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic atmos sound Only played this expensive item a few times. So far results mixed. Played the remake of the magnificent seven, and was blown away by the noise it was incredible in atmos. But I put on a couple of non atmos old movies and the sound was good But nothing special. What I was disappointed with though, played a tom petty concert on disc and changed all the sound settings and still when I reached the Maximum output of1-50 the sound was nowhere near loud enough. My Bose in the other room would take the roof off with music. However it is early days and maybe a little early to make mind up yet. Thanks to richer sounds whose delivery service was brilliant, Pity there is not a store closer to my house.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Underwhelmed Certainly no bells and whistles to find. The wireless sub woofer kept disconnecting every few minutes. The sound overall was average.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sound but concern over connectivity with sub Have owned this Dolby Atmos soundbar for 3 weeks and am generally very pleased with it apart from one issue. Initially I heard intermittent stuttering and popping from the subwoofer. I checked the Sony Support site and found that this problem was listed along with an advised fix which involved a reset. I carried out the reset and so far there has been no recurrence but I am obviously concerned that this might happen again as it clearly has with other customers. This is very disappointing given the very high price of the unit and the exceptional reviews it has received. So far with everything working as it should the sound quality is excellent for TV, movies and music via bluetooth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive sound! One of my main reasons for purchasing the Sony HT-ST5000 was the fact that it offers 4K support with 4 HDMI sockets. And it supports Dolby Atmos. Even with this, the quality of the sound was a very pleasant surprise - much deeper and more involving than my previous soundbar. While the remote could do with some dedicated input selection buttons, the fact that the interface appears on the TV screen is welcome, rather than trying to work through a small display on the unit itself. The build quality is top notch, and this feels like a sturdy piece of kit that should last well. The separate subwoofer is wireless and connected automatically. I just love it! It isn't cheap, but it is worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's expensive, but my god is it good! Have to say I looked at myself several times and said £1500 - really? but I took the plunge and am not in the slightest disappointed. Yes separates would probably give you more bang for the buck but I am limited on space so this was the perfect option. I use this unit with a Sony TV running ARC so everything worked out of the box plus and play with the Blueray also. Bluetooth works a treat so can run Apple music from my laptop or phone without any issues. Can highly recommend this unit to anyone, but I also understand the price can be prohibitive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fabulously sublime Superb sound and very easy to set up. Looks glorious. The only rather considerable set back for me is the fact that the sound bar does not indentify and display the audio input. You never have the joy of seeing 'Dolby Atmos' flash up on the panel and wouldn't ever really know for certain whether you were putting through stereo or better audio. Breathtaking oversight/ shortcoming at this price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent sound quality Have had the unit for about 1 month and it really brings the sound alive when watching films etc. the bass is very good and not over powering. Would highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb & extremely surprising ! After buying the new Oled Sony tv I wanted a decent all in one sound system to go with it. I looked at quite a few until the Gent in the Sony store recommended this soundbar. I was extremely sceptical as I had never heard a decent soundbar that gave the same dynamic sound as a separates system but after reading online reviews from leading magazines I took the plunge. This system is quite honestly stunning. Out of the box was a straightforward setup with minimal tweaks required and the Atmos sounds fantastic. More features than you can shake a stick at literally and bluetooth connection to other room speakers is straightforward. I also have my new vinyl player connected to it and it sounds rich and full. Maybe a lot of money but there is an awful lot there for your money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from State of the Art This acoustic wave projection sound bar / woofer was bought in conjunction with the new Sony OLED TV, for an immersive audio visual experience. For an AVC source with any form of Dolby surround audio content, it produces high quality room filling sound ,with several discernibly different selectable pre-set sound fields . Careful input of the room and seating dimensions during setup is necessary to achieve the full immersive surround sound potential. Test tones confirm set up. All auxiliary AVC sources must be HDMI routed via the sound bar to the TV, for the full system audio visual capability to be achieved, as per the specification .
