“The Arcam SR250 is a really good stereo amplifier, and not just at the price... Recommended!” – ‘Hi-Fi +’.

Best of all worlds - stereo sound with AVR flexibility

Take all the best features from an AV Receiver, combine with a top quality stereo amp and you have the best of all worlds – the Arcam SR250. Stereo amps are simpler than AVRs, meaning you get higher quality components for better sound, at any given price level. Where they don’t excel is in terms of inputs and features. The SR250 addresses this with a comprehensive HDMI interface, network streaming, app control and DAB/FM tuner. There’s even Arcam’s impressive Dirac Live system for perfectly tailored sound.

Stereo Class-G – power and refinement in perfect harmony
Arcam’s pioneering Class-G amplifier technology gives the SR250 the best possible sound in all circumstances. The first quarter of its mighty 120 watts per channel is delivered in pure Class-A. Class-A is renowned for a rich, smooth sound that makes instruments and vocals sound incredibly life-like. Go beyond this point and efficient digital amplification kicks in – delivering plenty of power without the inefficiency that Pure Class-A ‘all the way’ would demand. Smooth and refined, yet a beast when unleased – the Arcam SR250 is a consummate all-rounder.

Dirac Live for Arcam gives you the very best sound in your room
For the very best sound in your room, Arcam includes a powerful room correcting technology from Dirac Research. This uses a microphone and dedicated software to take multiple readings around your room and feed the information back to the amplifier for a completely bespoke response (professional set-up recommended).

Wide-ranging connectivity, including HDMI
Unlike other stereo receivers, the SR250 features seven HDMI inputs and three outputs. Six HDMIs are HDMI 2.0a and HDCP2.2 compatible (for UHD 4K sources) with the seventh being MHL compatible (for connecting a smartphone). Other inputs provide a total of six digital and seven analogue (including a front-mounted 3.5mm AUX) inputs, making this Arcam receiver hugely adaptive to all types of sources.

HDMI Zone 2 output
Triple HDMI outputs make the SR250 even more versatile. Use two of the outputs within the same room for connecting a TV and projector simultaneously. The third HDMI is independent, making it ideal for sound and vision in a second room (HDMI2.0a/HDCP2,2 compatible).

Network control – including Spotify Connect
Connect to your network via Ethernet (wi-fi not included) and you get access to a wide range of networking features. These include UPnP (Universal Plug n’ Play) for streaming from other network devices, Spotify Connect (requires Spotify Premium account) and Internet radio.

Internet, DAB and FM – all the radio you need
Internet radio opens up access to a choice of hundreds of radio stations from around the world. Backing this up, the built-in DAB and FM tuners give wide-ranging access to all your favourite stations, including popular digital only stations, such as BBC 6 Music and 4 Extra.

MusicLife iOS control app
If you have an Apple iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad, then you can take full control of streaming music to your Arcam device with the MusicLife control app. It lets you stream music directly from your device as well as servers or computers connected via UPnP (Universal Plug n’ Play). The latest version brings Internet Radio, Podcasts plus streaming from TIDAL and Qobuz. Advanced features, such as library searching, sorting, shuffle and repeat playback are also catered for.

Don’t compromise on sound or features. With the Arcam SR250 you can have it all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Class G Nirvana I’m enjoying this amp immensely. Through deployment of Dirac it takes my room acoustics and creates a wonderful tactile soundscape. The bass is taut with a nice slam, mids are natural and well separated and the high frequencies are sparkling without harshness. Works so well with Bluesound node.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A unique bargain at Richer Sounds price! An edge case product (2 channel AV system) with no direct equivalent but which delivers in spades. Very clever tech and unique feature set, set this amp apart without forgetting it’s original £2.5k RRP...! Using with KEF R3 for a fast, clean and powerful sound. Highly recommended!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Audio as it was meant to sound? I already own an Arcam AVR390 and was blown away with the Dirac room acoustics correction feature - which utterly transformed / opened up the sound. I can honestly say it was the biggest improvement in sound quality I have ever heard when upgrading. Terms like night/day, chalk/cheese don't do it justice. And when I’ve toggled Dirac on and off I couldn’t believe how poor the sound was in stereo direct mode. Despite my multi channel set up I still crave the best stereo sound possible - and despite how great the AVR390 performs for two channel audio I still thought there was scope for improvement - and took a gamble with the SR250. There wasn't a bad review really to be found. And at much less than 50% of the original selling price price I took the plunge. It does come with an Arcam 5 year warranty too. The obvious route for what I wanted to achieve was to purchase a P429 Class G 4 channel power amp – but it was 50% more expensive. And after careful consideration I found I could integrate the SR250 into my existing multichannel setup with little ongoing faffing around. The SR250 is an odd ball as it is a stereo only av receiver with HDMI / digital and analogue inputs and 3 HDMI outputs. I’ve been able to integrate it with my AVR390 by running two sets of speaker cable to the front stereo speakers and swapping them over if listening to stereo music or surround sound. It is a little odd though having two identical av units either side of the TV. Fortunately one remote works either unit, and they have good old fashioned mechanical on/off buttons so the remote will only operate the receiver I want it to. It took about 15 mins to get an initial satisfactorily Dirac room calibration. I've only been using it for about 7 hours from new but it is obvious the class G circuitry (which runs in class A for lower power output) is revealing much more information from my music. The leading edge of notes are realised with much greater clarity. Instrument separation is improved and the soundstage appears more expansive. Dynamics are improved too. The SR250 (with a front speaker combo of Tannoy XT6F floorstanders and two B&K subs wired high level in stereo, coupled with a laptop supplying FLAC audio files to a Chord Mojo DAC) is laying bare the music in front of me. The class A circuitry really does lend a sweetness to the sound. And as the amp beds in the sound is only going to improve. I can’t emphasis enough though the improvement Dirac makes. It is a game changer for those without the perfect listening environment – which is probably 95% of us. And my room and speaker positioning is not hi-fi friendly. But with Dirac I might be getting close to hearing music as it was meant to be heard. A delight to listen to and as such thoroughly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellet sound and build. One of the best amps I've ever owed, and the sound is so natural, my music has been reborn. Even the old CD's sound like they have just been recorded. If you want a amp / network receiver that every time you play a piece of music regardless of what type of music your playing makes you smile, then this one,s for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even better than expected Excellent sound from the Class G technology, this really has brought my B&W 683 s2’s to life. Music has never sounded so good. A true Arcam sound with lots of features and a lot of grunt. I’ve finally found the amp that does it all without compromise!
