What does the DacMagic 100 do?

Whatever the digital source, the DacMagic 100 will make your music sound better. Simply plug in your dock, Blu-ray, DVD, TV or CD player via optical or coaxial connections and enjoy audio quality that's way ahead of what you might expect. There's a USB connection for your computer, laptop or tablet and it also supports 24-bit/192kHz transfer, so music files stored on your laptop in top 24/192 quality can be streamed, uncompressed, and enhanced by its DAC.

Class-leading sound quality
Whatever your music source, you'll enjoy genuine hi-fi quality sound by using the Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100. A Wolfson WM8742 24-bit DAC is teamed up with Cambridge Audio's wealth of digital engineering knowledge to create a sound that's vibrant, detailed and remarkably free from jitter. Jitter is especially prevalent on music sent via network devices or hard drives and can give the sound a harsh and unnatural quality.

Well connected
There are two coaxial inputs and a single optical one, all switchable from the front. Add to this the USB input and gold-plated analogue RCA outputs for connecting to your hi-fi and the DacMagic 100 has every angle covered.

Audiophile quality sound from your digital sources without having to spend a fortune? Now, Dac's magic!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cambridge Audio DAC Magic 100 Nice compact little box which links computer generating digital audio to analogue to be played through the hi fi system. Big improvement in the sound quality. Easy to setup. Does not have a headphone socket like some DACs but I can use the phone outlet from the hifi amp instead. Comes in silver or black.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spot on! I wanted to resurrect an old analogue Amplifier I own due to its superb stereo sound. All my sources and music are now digital as times have moved on. Step in the Cambridge audio dacmagic 100. Now I can output my entire CD collection stored in .wav format from my PC at the click of button through my old amplifier. I can honestly say the sound quality is the best I have received from the amp during my 20 years of owning it. The DacMagic is a good looking and well built unit, and it does its job very well indeed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best DAC despite great price point! I spent the last 3 years listening to my digital music on a modest laptop, connected to a mid-range amp and speakers, and I was perfectly happy. After comparing a much loved, well recorded track on my PC with the HQ same track on CD player, I perceived a difference in sound quality, with the CD sounding better. The only difference must have been from the DAC. Theoretically, to my mind, they should have sounded identical, the only difference being that the PC track was being processed by a £18 DAC / Headphone Amp, that draws power from the PC via USB. With such a vast and varied choice and price point in the DAC market, I struggled to choose, but eventually purchased the Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100, and the difference in sound quality is a vast improvement, now surpassing that of the audiophile quality CD player. Much improved clarity across all frequencies, deeper soundstage, noticeable wider chanel separation leading to a much more enjoyable listen... DIVERSITY

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality Bought this on the advice from Marc in the Southampton branch to connect my new LG 4K TV to my very old Pansonic Home Entertainment (5.1 Surround Sound) system with an AudioQuest OptiLink 1M cable. All I can say is that between the new cable and the DAC the surround system is sounding better than ever!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Versatile and great value. Bought this to replace an Arcam rLink which connected my new OLED tv to my Arcam Solo Neo music system. As the rLink refused to switch on unless I replugged in the device each time the Cambridge DAC Magic 100 with its on/off switch seemed to be the ideal solution. Well built, easy to connect up and perfect if you require good sound from a digital source. Mids and highs are beautifully clear although the bass on my system can be a bit too much. Is it better than an Arcam rLink? For me, yes in terms that it works having an on/off switch, but probably not because it can't match the rich and exciting sound of the Arcam. But that said, unless you have a bigger budget and can stretch to the present Arcam DACS go for the DAC Magic 100 instead as at £130 paid its well worth it. Richer Sounds (Weybridge) as always were terrific to deal with.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product which transforms computer audio. I read some useful instructions on how to get the unit to operate at the higher sampling rates which is important to get the best sound. I can now listen to files from Spotify or Tidal and get acceptable results. It's a pity there's no headphone socket but I'll be adding my old amp to the system when I get some more speaker cable and hope to get an even better sound with ability to use headphones too. I should say that my speakers have a built in amp but I can use another amp in a different configuration.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointing I had to return the unit as it repeatedly switched itself off when sampling. When it was functioning I didn't find the music quality from my CD player or DAB tuner enhanced. I also found the build quality of the DACmagic to be flimsy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant Sound Quality I'm using the DacMagic 100 with a new Mac Mini (running iTunes and Apple Lossless music files), an elderly Aura Evolution amplifier and a pair of B&W 685 S2's. The result is outstanding sound quality far exceeding any of my previous setups. I'm not in a position to compare this unit with others but for me, as part of my setup, it provides excellent sound and good value for money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb way to improve old CD player I bought the DACMAGIC 100 to upgrade my 10 year old Denon CD player, without buying a brand new player. The Denon has an optical output, so coupled with the DAC it works really well and has improved the sound. It's not just a small improvement it's a massive leap in quality - more detail, better stereo soundstage and a more involving listen. Classical piano recordings have particularly improved, as that was the Denon's weakness. I'm a vinyl lover, but this gives CD a boost and now the turntable needs improving to keep up with it. The ability to use the DAC with other PC based sources will be useful too. Recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does exactly what is says on the tin! Does the job beautifully. Easy to set up. Worked first time. The only wrinkle was having to work out how to turn off auto-power-down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small, easy to use and good quality sound The only down side is that is does work with an iPad, but that is the iPads fault not the DACmagic. But I am still going to try but need to buy a simple Apple to USB adaptor first, but I think Apple have locked it down with later OS.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spoil yourself. Excellent piece of equipment, which I'd considered for a while. Setup to other devices was straightforward with the exception of the PC. This needed some assistance from the Cambridge Audio online help, but was quickly sorted. Really easy and enjoyable over the phone purchase, well organised by my nearest branch who sourced and sent me the item from another branch. Delivered in under 24 hours from ordering. Highly recommended service and equipment. Takes my digital TV to a new level via digital optical through the Dacmagic and on to my analogue Denon amp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Miniature powerhouse. I bought this product to breathe some life in to my digital music. As with a lot of people now, most of my music is being stored digitally on my computer's hard drive. I've found the sound quality to be lacking from what I am used to, so decided to hook up a DAC between my computer and my amp. After doing a bit of research and talking to friends I decided to take a punt on this, the CA DacMagic 100. Instantly I was impressed, the sound....wow! Subtleties in the music that was lost before are back, the separation between the different musical elements are astonishing. I recommend anyone with a digital library try a DAC, the music really comes alive. I have listened to a few different ones (CYP, Arcan and Cambridge Audio) all of them made a difference. I personally think that this little box from Cambridge Audio hits the spot. The other half (a musical philistine) even noticed the difference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Fidelity sound from a small affordable unit Having just upgraded my TV with the latest in HD/Wi-Fi technology I found the RCA phono output was missing. On the advice of Richer Sounds (I am not an expert in DACs) I bought the Cambridge Audio DACMagic 100. This is not the cheapest but I know of Cambridge Audio and a mid price seemed a safe purchase choice. I have just watched the Reading festival on BBC3 and was delighted with the sound through my HiFi. The clarity, smoothness, separation, frequency response and imaging was as good as the best CD recording that I own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent value DAC I bought this DAC to improve the sound quality from a streaming digital music player and it is just the job; the sound quality has improved greatly and if you then factor in the compact, great design and relatively low price, this product is a winner. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent buy and deal with id100 Bought this as I was using a docking station output to hear my iTunes or airplay with a 3.5mm jack. Bought this to really see if there would be a 'huge' difference in sound quality. I work with studio grade gear and the quality of audio for the price is quite remarkable. Throw in the dock for digital end-end ( I use Toslink) and to 'charge while you listen' to the Dacmagic 100 - and as a pair the duo produce good dynamics but reproduce the music with great detail and clarity. I use this with a valve amp - using 67AC tubes connected to old 90's period KEFQ50's floor standers. It sounds as a combination - simply brilliant. Very engaging and the sounds just begs you to listen to everything again. My only downside - is the menu button on the remote doesn't seem to work with IOS7 on iPhone 4. Not sure on other models, but transport and shuffle etc all work fine. The main reason was to upgrade the sound - not use the dock, so still v happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Truly Stonking...... To give you an idea of where I am coming from I use and own high quality audio eqipment on a daily basis, I can't imagine a world without music. As a sheer indulgence I bought this DAC to plug into my Imac for sound and music feeding a pair of very old Bose speakers driven by an equally ageing Musical Fidelity amp. To say that I was blown away would be putting it mildly. Initially I kept on trying another piece of music that I was familiar with as I keep hearing things that I had not heard before, the tempo and musical detail was breath taking. I was expecting an improvement in sound, but not this. If I had to live with this setup to provide my music it would not be a problem. In short I can't recomend this Dacmagic highly enough.
