”A seriously talented arrival to the budget turntable market that sets a new standard at the price.”- ‘Hi-Fi Choice’ ‘Recommended’

The perfect turntable for audiophiles on a budget

Putting engineering quality above frills, the Project Essential III is perfect for those that enjoy their music above all else. With a specification that includes an acrylic platter, isolation feet, a low vibration motor with DC power supply and a quality Ortofon cartridge, the Essential III A offers much more than just the basics and gives a class-leading sound.

Sound enhancing acrylic platter on this 'A' version
Swapping the pressed steel platter of the previous Essential models for an acrylic one makes a big difference. These are usually only standard on turntables costing much more as they cost far more to produce than pressed steel ones. Acrylic offers an inert surface contact, reducing the unwanted effects of resonance. This means you'll not only hear more detail but more a more natural tone, too.

Engineered for sound
Unlike many other turntables around this price, the Pro-Ject Essential 3A has all the elements of a proper hi-fi turntable - just at a lower price. The low vibration DC motor gives stable speed for accurate pitch and timing. The main bearing is made from stainless steel and runs within a bronze bushing with a Teflon coating. This type of build integrity is usually reserved for much more expensive designs and gives the Essential 3A a remarkable precision of sound for its price.

Single piece aluminium tonearm
Continuing its hi-fi credentials, the Pro-Ject Essential III A is supplied with a good quality tonearm. Made from a single piece of aluminium, it's both light and rigid. The more rigid the more precisely it tracks, making listening to your records a more involving experience. For long-lasting quality, the tone-arm is fitted with sapphire bearings.

Cartridge upgraded to Ortofon OM10
Another great new upgrade with the version 3 of the Essential is an Ortofon OM10 cartridge. Replacing the previous OM5 model, the higher spec cartridge uses a finer stylus to get deeper into the groove, giving you a broader sound and more detail.

More impressive than ever, the Project Essential III A is the 'go to' turntable at its price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! Bought this for my friend‘a birthday and he loves it. Really great service from Richer Sounds

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Basic turntable I wish I had been told that the arm does not lift at end of track or that the speed can only be controlled by physically moving the drive belt. My old AKAI that I bought in the early 80's was far superior. By the way, the instruction booklet must have been written by someone from the planet Zog (thank goodness for You Tube)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long term review - well worth the money I got this as a birthday present just over 18 months ago and can confirm that it has given me a new found love of vinyl. Going through a Marantz PM6003 amp and Monitor Audio BX2 speakers (all previously purchased from the City branch of Richer Sounds) the IIIA has made my ever growing collection sound great and remarkably present. The acrylic platter was more than worth the extra few quid. The only small downsides are occasionally needing to realign the weight and the lid being a bit stiff, having the effect of causing the needle to skip if it’s pulled up without a little care. Regardless, for the price these are all more than forgivable. The only issue now is that newer Essential models have been released since I got this, so would find it hard to choose between them if buying now. However, you would not regret buying one of these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding for the money Really pleased with this deck, big step up in sound from turntables in the £200 range. IMHO better than the Rega Planar 1 (irritatingly noisy motor - sent it back); though I’m running it through a Rega phono stage, Audiolab amp and KEF speakers. The ortofon cartridge gives a decent sound and won’t break the bank to replace the stylus. For reference I have a couple of higher end decks and though this won’t replace them, I reckon you’d have to spend £500 plus to beat this. Note this is the 3A deck with the acrylic build- well worth the extra money
