”…it will not only slip into a wide range of systems without problems, but will sound impressively rich and musical.” ’Hi-Fi News’ – Highly Commended.

Reference quality ESS Sabre DAC for first-class CD playback

Taking the CD player alone, the Arcam CDS50 is already amongst the best in its class. At its heart is an ESS Sabre 9038 DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor). Used in conjunction with a high precision clocking mechanism (for ultra-low jitter) and custom designed power supply, it delivers sensational sound quality.

Super Audio CD (SACD) – the ultimate version of CD
To hear the Arcam CDS50 at its very best, try it with Hi-Res SACD. These Direct Stream Digital (DSD) discs offer a far higher resolution than ordinary CDs and are similar in resolution to 24-bit music files. The result is a more natural sound, revealing subtle detail and texture in the music.

Stream your music
More than just a CD player, the Arcam CDS50 also includes a built-in streamer. Link to your system by wired Ethernet or by built-in Wi-Fi and compatible with UPnP and CIFS audio streaming standards, the CDS50 is the ideal device for listening to music stored on your NAS drive, laptop, PC or Mac. With the ability to handle a wide range of file formats, including FLAC, WAV, AAC, AIFF, OGG, MP3, WMA, the CDS50 is flexible enough to handle all your music streaming needs.

Plus it’s also a stand-alone DAC
Thanks to the CDS50 featuring optical and coaxial digital inputs, it can also be used as a stand-alone DAC. This means that you can plug in other components, such as your TV, set-top box or games console and get access to the 32-bit, reference quality ESS DAC. More than just a CD and streamer, the CDS50 also gives your existing digital components a huge boost in sound quality.

MusicLife control app
Take full control of streaming music to your Arcam device with the MusicLife control app (now available for Android and Apple iOS devices). Working with the wireless system, it lets you stream music directly from your device as well as servers or computers connected via UPnP (Universal Plug n’ Play). The latest version brings Internet Radio, Podcasts plus streaming from TIDAL and Qobuz. Advanced features, such as library searching, sorting, shuffle and repeat playback are also catered for.

Studio quality XLR balanced outputs
In addition to regular RCA analogue, coaxial and optical digital outputs the CDS50 is also equipped with XLR balanced audio outputs. Connect to a compatible amplifier and you'll have a truly professional connection with ultra-low signal loss - even over longer runs.

Backlit remote control with learning ability
As standard, the Arcam CDS50 is supplied with a backlit, learning remote control. This makes it easier to use in low light levels and it will control other handy functions – such as your amp’s volume control. For effortless control as part of a home automation system, the CDS50 also features IR in, TRIG in sockets and a RS232 interface.

Get the very best from all your digital music sources, with the Arcam CDS50.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A noticeable improvement in CD sound quality I can hear the difference in sound between this player and my "old" CD player. My CDs are now much more on a par with the quality of sound from my turntable. The music streamer side of the CD Player did not seem that good from the spec and other reviews, which was confirmed by Richer Sounds staff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound from Arcam CDS50 I Bought this mainly for the cd player which sounds real good, quality build as you would expect from Arcam, i did hear some horror stories regarding the streaming side, but i have had no issues with it, i linked it to my Mac using Firestream server and can send my audio files direct, i use a apple tv to the digital dac of the arcam if i want quick link to phone and ipads, you could also link a bluetooth device to the digital dac of the arcam, so connection is easy, so far so good and the usual excellent service from richer sounds at a competitive price

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sound, shonky streaming app... Bought this after my NAD M5 died and couldn't be repaired (shocking for an £1800 player). I have a large SACD collection I wanted to be able to play, and this is now the cheapest stereo SACD player on the market. As other reviews mention, the sound is terrific, it really has a good DAC built in. For standard red book CD's it's a revelation, much better than my NAD was. With SACD's it's perhaps not as detailed and spacious, but very musical and listenable nonetheless. The streaming side sounds equally good and I've found myself using it a lot more than I expected, I have been using a Mac Mini through an Arcam irDAC for high Res streaming, and the CDS50 does sound better. it is a bit of a pain to set up, and forgets the WiFi password if the power is switched fully off, so I'm going to switch to ethernet. BUT, the reason I've given it four stars is that the MusicLife app you have to use for streaming is pretty crummy. I use Qobuz for streaming, and MusicLife lacks most of the features from Qobuz's own app, including hapless playback. There's a good two to three second gap between tracks, which is extremely irritating in continuous pieces of classical music. It's like using iTunes in about 2005. It also doesn't support Apple Muaic or Spotify, presumably as they're not high-res, though radio is played either same bit rates as DAB, SO 6Music is at 128kbps, when BBC Sounds is at 320. Mind you it STL sounds good, much better than lousy DAB. So all in all a great sounding player rather let down by a shonky streaming app.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sound The CDS50 was bought to replace an Arcam CD72, now there’s a blast from the past! The difference is amazing. Instruments are brought to another level and listening to CDs it’s like listening to a new album. The speakers are Linn Ninkas so the CDS50 complements them very well especially in the midrange. Richer sounds price matched when I showed them another price, that and saying that I would rather buy from Richer Sounds...flattery gets you everywhere! All in all very happy with product, price and Richer Sounds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound and good looks In both streaming and CD modes it sounds really detailed and lush. The player looks good with its smooth lines and simple appearance and the remote control is a real pleasure to use. After having the Arcam Amplifier recommended by a friend the CDS 50 was the natural Arcam partnerMy only drawback is that I now feel I should update my old speakers!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality CD/Streamer Purchased to replace my geriatric cd player on the basis of known Arcam quality, attractive sleek looks & an "in" for me into streaming the CDS50 does not sonically disappoint given enhanced detail, soundstage & rhythm. Only gripe (and loss of a star) relates to streaming setup for an old grizzly streaming newbie as the manual is sadly deficient on this aspect and the MusicLife control app is not intuitive, The manual really warrants a "Streaming for Dummies" section, which would have saved me a few hours of grief. For some its incompatibility with Spotify could also be unfavourable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Skeptical but very suprised I bought this a couple of weeks ago to replace a FMJ27 Arcam CD player, that I've had since 2001. I wasn't sure if it would live up to my expectations, as the FMJ had performed very well, but it sure has, as I use it more it just seems to get better & better ( because of the burn in period that all hi-fi benefit from).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Complete new Hi Fi I bought an Arcam SA20 Amp, Arcam CDS50 CD Player and a beautiful pair of Bowers and Wilkins Anniversary Edition 630 Speakers plus connection leads and speaker cable. The guys at York provided great , knowledgeable advice . I originally ordered an unboxed pair of standard Bowers and Wilkins 603’s but when boxing them up to collect the manager noticed they were damaged. They were the last pair so he discounted a pair of anniversary edition ones which was a great deal for me and shows their commitment to service . Happy customers return.......and I will.
