"If you've already got a good DAC, the Cambridge CXC transport is a no-brainer." 'What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision magazine'. 5-star review.

Transport-only design

The Cambridge CXC is a CD transport only, so inside you'll only find 'half' of what's usually inside a CD player. Although this may sound unconventional, it has many benefits. The most obvious of these is cost effectiveness, but there are sonic benefits to be had, too. Without an onboard DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor), the power supply only has to drive the CD transport. By being dedicated to this task it can provide a clean, stable power supply for the highest performance possible at its price.

Pair with your choice of DAC
Another advantage is increased flexibility. Chose to match with one of the Cambridge CXA digital amplifiers or use your own choice of DAC entirely. By starting with such a high quality transport design, the CXC could see you through many system and DAC upgrades without being in the least bit out of place.

S3 servo
Rather than using 'off the shelf' CD software, Cambridge uses its own S3 servo processor. Dedicated to CD music playback rather than the multi-purpose disc readers, the CXC maximises the full potential of your audio CDs. With state-of-the-art error correction your CDs simply sound more realistic, more dynamic and more detailed than with other players.

Vibration resistant casing
With rigid, metal construction and low-resonance design, the casing helps shield the player from both mechanical and electrical interference, helping to improve clarity and reduce background noise. Isolating feet help adsorb vibration for a further reduction in distortion.

Sleek new finish
The CXC is part of the refreshed CX-Series 2. The distinctive tear-drop profile gives the CXC a contemporary look and makes it the ideal partner for the CX digital amplifiers, network player and also a great match for the Cambridge Audio AX range. The Lunar Grey front panel contrasts with the black top and sides and blends well with both black and silver separates.

Dedicated to the finest sound from CD possible, the Cambridge CXC CD transport redefines CD playback quality at its price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rubbish I bought this last September and it has always been slow to read and play CDs, sometimes not reading some at all. The problem is now becoming a real issue with the amount of discs it will not play, even brand new discs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive sound. I coupled the CXC transport to my Cambridge CXA81 amp and Dali Rubicon speakers. I also changed my Naim speaker cable for Chord rumour X, The resulting sound was so good, I was really pleased I'd made the change. One slight moan is the fact that there is no facility to select a specific track number when surfing over CD's, but the sound is super.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great advance on the old Arcam My Arcam from the 1990s failed and I am very pleased with the advice on a replacement from Richer Sounds. At the same time I added a subwoofer from REL, also a good recommendation

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well with the CXA81 Bought this alongside a CXA81. Beautiful sound. Classic minimalist design. Great job Cambridge!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Elegant and well-built CD transport Purchased this transport to replace an ageing Musical Fidelity CD player which had started to stutter on some discs. As the new unit is effectively only a disc reader, it is impossible to say I have noticed an improvement in sound quality - I haven't as I am using the same Arcam DAC. Moreover, I quickly found I miss the track direct access buttons I had on the old player, as this has very limited functionality on the player or the remote. That said, it is a very pretty unit, very solidly built and the remote control also controls volume on my 20+ year-old Cambridge Audio amplifier. When rules allow in-person demos, I plan to test out the matching CXA61 amplifier for an upgrade.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible deep bass thats so defined. As my 2k transport blew i too a risk on this inexpensive transport. At a fraction of the cost i didn't expect too much. When it blew off my costly transport i was delighted. Even others commented on the improvement. Except for the limited remote i have no criticisms only joy at this fine engineering. Its solid and feels like quality. Its free of frills...just the way i like it. Played in class A and the maggies the detail is a revelation. A top quality DAC is needed or you waste the benefits. Indeed with 6 amps and a dsp its breathtaking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Night and Day Difference I had been using my old Cyrus CD 8 with a Coaxial going into my DAC. Was a bit dubious that a CD transport would make a difference but I have had a pleasant surprise. Detailed, tight bass. Couldn’t be happier. Don’t hesitate, buy it!
