”Rarely does Cambridge fire too wide of the mark, but the Duo hits right at the centre of the target.”– ‘What Hi-Fi’ – 5 Star review.

Quality headphone amp

If you want to hear every nuance and background detail of your favourite music then listening with headphones takes some beating. Use the dedicated headphone amp built into the Duo and you’ll experience a whole new level of detail. With a precise volume control you’ll get exactly the right level – whatever your choice of headphones.

Perfect for amps without a phono preamp built-in
Many amplifiers no longer come with a built-in phono preamp, which is fine if you don’t use vinyl but not so good if you want to spin some records. The Cambridge Audio Duo is a dedicated phono preamp, meaning you can add a record deck to just about any amp or system with a standard AUX input. This means your choice of stereo amp or receiver is greatly expanded and, of course, you can retain the Duo phono preamp if you upgrade your main amp.

Perfect for amps with a phono preamp built-in!
Even if your main amplifier already has a phono preamp built-in, the chances are that the one inside the Duo is considerably better. Using a dedicated, switch mode power supply, the Duo is far quieter than most built-in phono preamps. The revised circuit board layout with surface-mount components further reduces noise and distortion. Factor in the shielded casing and you’ll simply hear more music and less background noise.

MC cartridge compatibility
One of the biggest advances over its little brother, the Solo, is the ability to amplify MC (Moving Coil) cartridges. These have an even lower output than MM (Moving Magnet) cartridges and require dedicated amplification. Once correctly amplified, the sound quality is stunning with a smoother yet more detailed sound. If you're serious about vinyl then fitting a good quality MC cartridge is an upgrade that you won’t regret.

Subsonic filter
Not all records are pressed the same – due to the poor quality of vinyl used, some sound considerably nosier than others. Wear and tear can play its role in reducing the quality, too. With its subsonic filter, the Duo filters out low frequency rumble; reducing distortion and protecting your speakers’ woofers from excessive wear.

Give your system a double whammy upgrade, with the Cambridge Audio Duo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality and sound had the cambridge duo a week but on the very first listen it was a massive sound upgrade on the good cambridge azure 640p it replaced and was a first step on a planned system upgrade, absolute bargain & sound to match. Did'nt need the headphone facility but tried it out & it Did'nt quite match the one in my current audiiolab but not a negative & still up tothe job if you need it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Match made in heaven I bought this phon pre-amp to replace an aged three box NVA (high quality in its day). I run a high quality turntable set up (LinnLP12 and moving coil) The Linn has never sounded this good. Setting up was a breeze. I enabled moving coil playback through Cambridge's own Duo and the Ittok AT OC9 combination worked as if it were a custom build costing a great deal of money. Smooth detailed power with that foot tapping bass so renowned by Linn aficionados. This is a first rate pre-amplifier for £250. I am very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great improvement to my old phono! I have a Revolver turntable which I bought over 30 years ago. Prior to connecting the Cambridge Audio Duo I was getting a lot of 'crackling' static from my records. Since connecting the Cambridge Audio Duo the 'crackling' has decreased and the quality of the sound has improved. The main reason I bought this was because of the headphone socket (I also have a Cyrus II which is about 20 years old and doesn't have a headphone socket!), which in itself is worth it - I love my Cyrus and didn't want to replace it - but there was the added bonus that it also improved the quality of the sound. The staff were really good and very helpful and knowledgeable - I will definitely be going there again!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic bit of kit but.... So after trawling through online stores for tube pre amps, and failing miserably to find a good one, I decided to go for the Cambridge Audio Duo. Why? Because it had great reviews, and even friends had commented on how good this unit is. It performs flawlessly with my Denon DL110 MC cartridge. My only gripe with this unit, and you may or may not agree with me, is that if like me, you frequently swap cartridges from MC to MM, then you have to Physically swap the RCA inputs on the back of the unit, and then switch the input on the front. It would make much better sense to have one single input on the rear, with a switchable mode on the front. That’s the only down fall to this otherwise near perfect pre-amp. Hence the four star rating. If you can cope with having to swap inputs over, or you really don’t need to, then I have no hesitation in recommending this little beauty. Well worth the price tag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear detailed sound with very low noise floor! I was looking for a fairly affordable phono stage that still gives great results. And all the internet hype led me to the Schiit Mani. A solid perfomer for sure, but plagued by constant issues of RFI, constant hum/ buzz and all of that with a high quality linear power supply... My turntable doesn't provide a ground point as its internally grounded, that might have played some part in the whole experience as I can't connect a ground wire from the tt to the phono preamp. So I kept looking for a new phono preamp, something that still has the nice level of detail and dynamics of the Schiit Mani but is also quiet until I drop the needle on the record. And sure enough the Cambirdge Audio Duo is it, and then some! I was hesitant to go for this model as there's not many reviews on the web, but it was the right choice. Bass is as punchy and deep as you'd want it to be, very detailed and quick. Mid-range has plenty of air, with precise instrument separation and placement. The highs are energetic but not fatiguing and the whole sound is very dynamic, overall amazing. At first I wasn't sure on its sound versus the Schiit Mani as it seemed a bit laid back, too mellow. Few weeks of breaking it in and now its just as enjoyable as the Mani if not more! This is a truly audiophile designed equipment, it doesn't add any coloration to your music, just lets it sound its best. The best thing about it... noise floor is incredibly low! Only the slightest buzz at the volume levels I will go deaf at and only if I put my ear right against the speaker, otherwise black silence until the record starts. An extra bonus is that it supports MC cartridges if I ever upgrade, oh yes and a very decent headphone amplifier! Highly recommended phono stage!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small box smooth detailed sound I was looking for a bargain and found one 5 stars at £250. I paid £200. The improvement to the sound quality I was use to was unbelievable my main reason for this phono stage was being able to plug it into the auxiliary on my valve amp and the ability to put a moving coil cartridge on in the future at a budget price. Do not wait buy one today. P s it dose not sound like it's budget price.
