”A class-leading performer with the features and practicality to boot.” ‘What Hi-Fi’ – 5-Star review. Tested at £259.
An award-winner made better
As a multi-award-winner, the original Cowon Plenue D impressed with its capable Hi-Res sound, long battery life, compact proportions and great value. All that stays the same with the D2, but now there’s more. Built-in storage has doubled from 32 to 64GB. Native DSD128 files are supported and there are impressive Cirrus Logic twin DACs at hand. A balanced output also offers a wider choice of headphone options.
Next generation High Resolution
Hi-Res sound is already widely regarded as a huge step-up in quality above MP3 and CD. Featuring the latest Cirrus Logic CS43131 DACs, that High Resolution sound just keeps getting better. The new chipset not only enhances battery life but also gets the very best from High Resolution, including native support for DSD files.
Native DSD support
Taking a step up from the original model, the Plenue D2 features native DSD support (up to DSD128). Originally designed for SACD players, DSD (Direct Stream Digital) encoded music files offer stunning levels of detail and resolution. Thanks to powerful new processing, you get effortless streaming of DSD files with the huge dynamic range, ‘inky’ quiet backdrop and all the subtle detail you’d expect from the format.
Handles a wide range of Hi-Res and standard formats
As well as DSD files, the Plenue D2 is also compatible with a wide range of other files types, too. These include FLAC/WAV/AIFF/ALAC/APE/MP3/WMA and OGG.
Now with balanced output option
Featuring a 4-pole headphone socket (2.5mm), the Plenue D2 is ideal for use with balanced headphones. Using a balanced signal between the source and headphones reduces noise and interference and is especially handy on the move. A standard 3.5mm output is also fitted, for regular headphones and AUX hi-fi links.
As standard, the Plenue D2 now has 64GB of built-in storage – enough for a decent music library. Thanks to the MicroSD card slot, though, this can be expanded by up to a further 128GB, giving a total of 192GB - enough for a serious music collection.
Built-in rechargeable battery giving up to 45 hours playback
Recharge the player in around 3.5 hours and you'll have an impressive battery life of up to 45 hours (MP3). Even with the highest quality Hi-Res files the battery life is around 30 hours – twice as good as many rivals and comparable smartphones.
Compact and stylish
Measuring just 79mm by 53mm, the Plenue D2 easily fits the palm of your hand. The aluminium case is both strong and light – as well as giving the player a high quality feel. An easy-to-use touch screen makes navigation easy and comes as second nature after using a smartphone. Physical buttons fall easily to hand for major functions, such as volume and power.
Leave your smartphone for calls and apps and take a listen to how music should be heard on the move – with the sparkling Cowon Plenue D2.
