”These Grados remain an exceptional pair of headphones.” ’What Hi-Fi?’ 2020 award-winner.

Audiophile sound quality

Following on from a line of award-winning SR80s, the latest 'e' version is still every bit the music connoisseurs' choice. Still handmade in Brooklyn USA, the SR80e headphones look, feel and sound quite different from the opposition. With the 'e' model, both driver and housing have been redesigned to lower distortion. Polymer damping helps ensure distortion is quelled and detail is brought to the fore.

Exceptional transparency
Using a new 4-conductor cable, Grado has also sought to improve headphones' resolution, giving them the kind of transparency you'd expect from a pair of headphones costing twice as much. In short, if it's life-like realism with full-bodied vocals and impressive dynamics you're after, little, if anything at this price can better the SR80e.

Robust and comfortable
Using densely padded earpieces and a broad headband, the SR80es are more comfortable than they might at first appear. With swivel earpieces, they also fit snugly against your ears, as well as folding flat for ease of storage. Their construction is tough enough to take a daily commute while still offering long-term comfort.

Unique style
The unique retro style is quite unlike rivals' headphones. In the tradition of many of the best products, however, form follows function, so there's nothing superfluous in the Grado's design.

For headphones that put sound quality above all else, the Grado SR80es continue to lead the pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality sound, exceptional value Bought these for listening at home - their open design makes them unsuitable for anything else unless you don't mind hearing the world around you.The sound is wonderfully bright and detailed - a noticeable improvement on my V-Moda M80s, which I've always enjoyed. They do lack bass at the low end, although I've found it very easy to boost that with my headphone amp (Fiio Q1 MkII). Great value for money for something which works so well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good sound Really good sound! Build quality reflected in cost. Bought this as a bundle with the Dragonfly DAC.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent sound, great value for money. These are the first quality headphones I've purchased and I'm not disappointed. Some reviews say they are not robust enough, but for home use I can't see any problems with the build quality. Very clear sounding while not bass heavy, the bass does come through quite impressively when the track demands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tremendous value for money and detailed sound. I got the SR80e headphones about a week ago. These headphones are to replace my extremely old Sennheiser HD480s which have finally given up the ghost after about 35 years of faithful service. The SR80e phones are now my main "listening at home cans". I'm very pleased with my new purchase. Their sound is quite detailed and revealing (particularly upper mids) with good balance to lows and highs. Listening to material I'm already very familiar with has been a bit of a surprise. Snare drums have a bit more bite and sizzle than on the old cans, guitars seem to have a bit more presence, vocals (female in particular) sound detailed and true. All in all, the listening experience feels very involved, sound stage is not perceived as out front as I'm used to, kind of more "in my head" than before. At £88 the value for money is incredible.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Grado sr80e I bought these a few weeks ago due to a recommendation from a Richer sounds salesman. Worst hi fi decision I have made. These headphones sound terrible. I replaced them with a pair of JVC Headphones which sound 10 times better yet cost just under £20. Do yourself a favour and take advice from elsewhere. These Grado SR80E cans are only any good for the bin. They sound awful and make your head hurt, as I'm sure you'll find similar quality at a pound shop. AVOID !!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A stunning performance I'm so happy I decided to buy the Grado's, I was originally contemplating the SR60e, but Richer Sounds had the SR80e for the same price as Amazon's 60e offer. Absolute no brained. I've listened to more music this week, and enjoyed it, (just spending the time to listen to it, rather than having it as background noise) than ever before. I even dug out and charged an old iPad, just to use it for movies with these headphones. It's like a cinema on your ears! Their profile isn't overly bassy, which gives everything else a richer deeper and more textured sound, rather than scooping the mids and ruining other instruments. I would fully recommend these to anyone, audiophile or not, just because of the enjoyment you get from music again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good sound quality, bit lacking in bass Unusual listening experience in that you can hear everything like you didn't have headphones on at all (all external sound comes in). The sound quality is great, if a bit less bass than I'm used to. Makes films and TV series sound great, voices very clear. The headband is really good, you just bend it to the shape you want, very light and easy to wear even with a big head like mine. All parts seem very good quality and also looks very modular and easy to fix if they wore out. I bought them after seeing a review on the Dankpods Youtube channel, really helpful.
