”LG SN11RG review: the best Dolby Atmos soundbar package so far. ’T3’ – 5-Star Platinum Award.

7.1.4 cinematic sound for an enveloping experience

Supplied with rear speakers as standard, the LG SN11RG effortlessly surrounds you in sound. Multi-channel sound means the sound is projected from the front, back and also upwards towards the ceiling, giving three-dimensional, room-filling sound that makes the most of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Wireless rear speakers mean there’s no need to run cables from the front to the back of the room.

Dolby Atmos and DTS:X make the most of multi-channel sound
Stunning Dolby Atmos uses two upwards firing speakers built-in, to produce a multi-dimensional, immersive sound that's a match for the finest cinemas. DTS:X also pushes the boundaries of what you can expect from home cinema. Thanks to that upward-firing speaker array, the SN11RG bounces sound off the ceiling for a totally immersive sound. Heavy rainfall and aircraft flying overhead now sound so true-to-life that the effects will have you diving for cover.

Meridian technology for class-leading sound
Responsible for some of the finest home and car hi-fi, Meridian is at the cutting edge of digital audio. With their sophisticated technology on board, the SN11RG produces a wide soundstage and enveloping soundstage via the advanced processing. Meridian technology means total precision, with incredible detail and sound effects placed all around your room.

Bass power
The spacious, pacey sound is beefed up at the bottom end with a wireless subwoofer. This gives action movies serious muscle and powers the musical beat. The wireless connection means that it can be placed anywhere in the room, regardless of how close it is to the soundbar (mains power required).

AI Sound Pro for the perfect sound – whatever the situation
AI Sound Pro gives you the ideal sound balance - whatever you're listening to. LG's unique technology analyses the signal and adjusts the balance to suit. If it senses high vocal levels, for example, then it automatically lowers the bass, making speech programmes, such as the news or commentary, much clearer and more detailed.

Hi-Res Audio playback
At the heart of the LG is a top quality audio system that’s compatible with Hi-Res music files. Hi-Res sound gives greater detail and a more natural sound. The SN11RG is compatible with a range of HD audio formats, including FLAC 192kHz-24-bit for exceptional sound quality.

Google Assistant for effortless voice control
With Google Assistant built-in, the SN11RG becomes a handy voice-controlled smart speaker. Play music, find answers on Google Search and manage everyday tasks – all via simple voice commands.

Fully connected
With both wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity, making a wireless connection with your streaming device is easy. For the highest quality link to your TV, the SN11RG uses an HDMI eARC connection, giving lossless transmission of uncompressed 5.1 channel and 7.1 channel audio – ideal for this Dolby Atmos speaker. HDMI and optical inputs are also standard, making the perfect connection for your Blu-ray/DVD player and games console.

Bring the full thrill of the cinema to your home, with the LG SN11RG.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing room-filling Atmos with eARC support I’ve had an LG SL8YG + SPK8 rears for a couple of years, but it has latency issues with the Xbox Series X when used over ARC. I was very happy otherwise, so when I researched and found out that LG bars with eARC didn’t have the issue, I figured I’d treat myself with an upgrade to the SN11RG. I couldn’t be happier. Higher quality sound and a real improvement with Atmos content from the up-firing rear speakers are the biggest benefits. It sounds amazing and fills my living room with cinema quality sound with the right content.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Impressive sound and features but a few snags... I purchased this soundbar online directly from Richer Sounds during Black Friday (2020) as it was heavily reduced and I had been thinking about buying it for some time to replace our 12 year old LG HT752TH-DH 5.1 DVD surround sound system. I ordered on 29th Nov 2020 and the item was delivered next day. Set up The system was relatively easy to set up using the quick start guide/card although the guide itself is not too helpful and poorly written. For the more comprehensive settings/user guide - you need to download that from LG! The rear speakers and sub paired automatically to the bar and have stayed in that state since which is over two months ago, occasionally the front LED panel reports that the rear left is not connected but it seems to sort itself out. Initially you need to install the Google home app and also download the LG Wi-Fi speaker app (I have iPhone 11 and more on this app later). With both apps installed I ran through the Wi-Fi connection steps in the quick start card and successfully connected the soundbar to my home Wi-Fi network (BT home hub 2 router) which enables you to use the LG Speaker app to control the volume and change simple config from your smart phone. I have a SkyQ box 2TB version and connected up the HDMI cables as per the guide (SkyQ to TV and TV to soundbar via arc connection) I also bought new ultra high speed HDMI 2.1 cables to replace the standard ones that are supplied with the Sky box. Quick check of default settings using the LG app and then I used the AI Room Calibration feature to fine tune the speakers once in their final resting place. Build quality Looks and feels exceptionally well made, the bar itself is really long, nearly 1.5m and only just fits on the width of our TV unit with a minimal overhang, I will mount this into the wall brackets once we’ve moved the living room around. The sub is a fair old size but not much bigger than our previous one and feels really solid. The rear speakers are also much bigger than expected and quite heavy, due to the size I may leave them on my existing mission speaker stands rather than wall mounting them using the supplied brackets. Home set up The bar is connected to my 65” 2019 Samsung LED UE65RU7470UXXU / SkyQ 2TB box. I don’t have a blue ray player so can’t comment about that as we mostly watch Sky TV, Sky Cinema, Boxsets or use the inbuilt SkyQ streaming apps. We actually prefer to watch the streaming services via our Samsung smart TV apps (Netflix, Disney+ Amazon Prime etc.) rather than via SkyQ as they perform much better and support native Dolby Atmos/4kHDR - where as the builtin SkyQ streaming apps do not. Problems Okay so I have mixed experiences using the soundbar depending on what source device I use. Initially with my set up configuration I get really bad lip syncing audio delay when watching SkyQ as the source device which seems even worse if I start watching streaming services via the Sky box apps. I checked my AV set up in Sky settings and verified Dolby Digital + is selected (ticked) and messed about with audio delay settings in the TV, Sky box and soundbar but cannot resolve this. My TV is also enabled for Dolby Digital + and Atmos support. So I upgraded my older SkyQ box to the newer 2TB HDR hardware version (cost £50) which also supports HDR and Dolby Atmos passthrough, the new box improved the visual quality but still no Dolby Atmos support when watching Atmos enabled content via the built in apps - Amazon, Netflix and audio lip sync persists in certain scenarios. Atmos enabled Sky movies appear to play fine so I called Richer sounds and they advised me to connect Sky box directly to the soundbar HDMI port rather than to the TV HDMI and this has improved audio delay issue on the SkyQ TV\apps content slightly but does not fix it completely. Also audio playback intermittenly cuts out for a few tenths of a second when watching any recorded content on the SkyQ box. This doesn’t happen when watching the smart TV apps or streaming music via Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connections to the sound bar. I think these issues are caused by the SkyQ box and not the soundbar although I have no evidence of this apart from my testing scenarios mentioned above. Watching streaming services via the inbuilt Samsung smart TV apps works much better, I can watch Atmos enabled content on Netflix and Amazon and the sound bar automatically detects the Atmos signal and plays without any noticeable audio delay. The same content does not even show the Atmos capable icon when selected from the Netflix app on the Sky box (audio shows as only 5.1) which I assume is a SkyQ box limitation as I have premium Netflix subscription which shows the Atmos capable icon content, when browsing through the Netflix smart TV app. The LG Wi-Fi app is very unreliable. After the initial set up when everything worked ok, if I now launch the app it reports “there is no connected speaker”. Similar in Google home app, which states “check soundbar is online” - I have to mess about trying to reconnect both apps to the soundbar and then sometimes the soundbar will reappear in the LG /google app (or not), flaky as hell and quite frustrating! Audio quality Now the whole point of buying this soundbar was because we wanted a better home cinema audio and mainly to experience Dolby Atmos. I’m still not sure about the Atmos effects via the upward firing drivers of the rear speakers and the soundbar and there’s not a massive amount of content to choose from on the current streaming platforms so the jury is still out there. In terms of overall audio quality we are impressed with the sound when watching movies/shows in 5.1, the sub delivers really deep thumping sounds (which i noticed that you can actually feel on the floor upstairs) and the rears are awesome for those channels that send sounds to back of the room. The bar is equally good and works perfectly when watching normal TV programs or when connecting smartphones etc to listen to music. The movie mode setting is by far the best one in our opinion, AI mode and all the others don’t sound anywhere near as good in our testing so far. Summary I would recommend this soundbar - however I would advise novices like myself who are considering this or any other high end flagship soundbar to perform thorough research before hand or at least get sound advice (‘scuse the pun) and verify what their current AV equipment supports, especially around HDMI socket versions, eARC/ARC support, Dolby Digital+/Atmos capabilities of existing kit. The Sky Q and my Samsung TV surely plays a part in audio lipsync delay as neither support HDMI 2.1 and eARC, so that's my bad - after some research I read that the HDMI 2.1 standard supports built in correction for audio delay so it’s a minefield especially if you’re not familiar with all this stuff, not for the faint hearted. As a typical uneducated consumer you just expect this stuff to work with perhaps a few minor tweaks and i'm certain my existing TV and Sky Q box are the limiting factors in terms of unlocking the true potential of this soundbar and getting the best experience. The LG Wi-Fi speaker app is not fit for purpose in my experience so far and I’m really hoping that these reliability issues will be improved in later versions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sounds amazing with Atmos or 5.1 source Once this was setup properly and watching Atmos movies/shows it really does sound amazing with sounds coming from all directions, and a chopper flying overhead sounded like it was actually above us. I think it took a few days to "break in" as it got better and better.
