Top quality surround sound from a super-slim, network-equipped AV receiver - the Onkyo TX-L50 doesn't compromise on sound or style.

'Half pint' size

With a height of just 70mm the Onkyo TXL50 is less than half as tall as similarly priced AV receivers. This means that it fits where others simply won't go and, crucially, has room to keep cool. It also happens to be one of the cleanest and sleekest looking AV receivers on the market. A clear display is flanked by just a handful of controls for a minimalist style.

Full-sized power and powered subwoofer output
Despite its compact size, the TXL50 compromises little when it comes to power. 80 watts per channel (at 4 ohms) gives plenty of power for all but the largest rooms. The power comes from a Class D amplifier that's not only powerful but cool running, too, making it ideal for the compact TX-L50. A further, unusual, benefit with this AV receiver is the powered subwoofer output. This lets you use a passive subwoofer although an active one can also be connected by the usual RCA sub output.

Quality Onkyo sound
For signal purity, Onkyo use discrete output stages rather than inferior IC chips. Although more costly to produce, discrete amplification offers many benefits including a purer sound, better dynamics and reduced heat build up for improved reliability.

Google Cast, AirPlay and Bluetooth
It's easy to stream music from your smartphone and tablet with Googlecast and AirPlay onboard. Link up wirelessly and stream your stored music or favourite music services using Google (Android) or iTunes (Apple) operating systems. For universal compatibility, including many laptops and PCs, Bluetooth wireless music streaming is also available.

Wi-Fi, Tidal, Spotify and Internet radio for the complete networking experience
The TX-L50 also comes with Wi-Fi, Internet radio, Tidal and Spotify. Simply connect to your home network using an Ethernet connection or Wi-Fi and you can access thousands of Internet radio sites via tunein as well as subscription services such as Spotify Connect and Tidal.

Add a wireless speaker with FireConnect powered by Blackfire
Using the latest FireConnect by Blackfire technology it's possible to create a multi-room speaker system - wirelessly! Simply add compatible Onkyo wireless speakers and you can mirror what's playing on the main system in another room.

All this, plus you can still connect up your record deck
If all this connectivity weren't enough, the TXL50 still works great as a hi-fi amp. Two line inputs and two digital connections are ample for most home entertainment systems. You can even plug in your turntable, thanks to the dedicated phono (MM) input - making a total of five inputs.

For the full-fat home cinema experience from a decidedly skinny receiver, the Onkyo TXL50 fits the gap with room to spare.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A surprise purchase! Old combined VD/surround system was playing up, and Blu-Ray then packed up, so popped into store for a look …. and walked out with a TXL-50 and a Panasonic 4k Blu-Ray! Bought the Onkyo as it was the only one that powered a passive sub-woofer so would just plug straight into my current (hardwired) speaker system. Installation and setup was very straightforward using the Quick Start guide and then the on-screen setup app. Speaker calibration, network setup, system linking etc. was also a cinch just following instructions on screen. Sound clarity and range is awesome - a real step up from the previous Panasonic system - despite using the same speakers. My only (slight) gripe is that whilst max volume in my room would be way too loud, the volume is a fair way up the scale when watching discs, meaning the system is working hard. Normal TV, radio, etc., sees it turned down more but still running around 20 out of a max 30. Changing to an active sub might help when watching discs, perhaps. Overall, I'm really pleased but left wondering if a slightly cheaper AV unit and an active sub might have been a better route for the same overall cost. I would still highly recommend the unit, however. I just need to upgrade to a 4k TV now ….. I would also give a thumbs up to the customer service given in the Exeter store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome bit of kit This is a really great AV RECEIVER. Lots of great features, easy to setup and a packs a punch for its size. Highly recommended. I use this in a large sitting room with a 5.1 set-up using Q Acoustic 3020i fronts and centre, with Cambridge Audio Minx22 surrounds. So even not breaking the bank the sound is crisp, clear and bass is excellent without a sub.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A sound investment! These products in addition to our existing speakers have transformed the way we enjoy our TV room. They have enhanced the sound to give us an immersive experience that has made a huge difference! A great choice as a result of guidance from the richer sounds adviser.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sound reproduction, slim and easy to set-up. I've been using this product for a few weeks and am delighted with the purchase. The only drawback (typical of this modern age) was the absence of detailed instructions. However, after accessing the Web and YouTube it was easy to set-up. I'm particularly impressed by the speaker configuration, something which my previous Yamaha system did not have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Bought this particular product to replace an older Onkyo. The slim design swayed my decision and I am extremely impressed with the ease of set up and the final sound quality. Wish I could stop it from turning itself on in the night though !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous all round sound! After only three days we are really appreciating the quality of sound our new Onkyo gives us. We are avid listeners of classical music so it has really made a huge difference to our lives and our enjoyment of music. We feel as though we are in the actual concert hall - but in the comfort of our own home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Hi Fi 5.1 sound ! I wanted a simple to operate 5.1 amp (mainly for Audio recordings and had easy to use tone controls ) that was not a flight deck and the friendly but straight forward Newcastle sales assistant put me onto to this ! I do wish they would include the old fashioned manuals with this kind of kit as the initial set up would have been much quicker and easier so I would recommend anyone to look at the FULL manual online before even getting it out of its box. Dont think its fully set up right yet as I still haven figured how to listen to the music and turn the TV screen off but I am using a oldish small monitor style screen at the moment . It is very quick and simple to operate ( which is what i requested ) and things like the Jethro Tull Steve Wilson 5.1 remixes sound fascinating . Films do sound OK but mixed way to loud a " boomey" to theses old ears! I would certainly recommend this amp to the slightly older music fan like myself .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive upgrade I bought this as a replacement for my ten year old 5.1 Panasonic. Joe at the Hull branch gave good advice and I have not been disappointed with the Result. Keeping the old 5.1 speakers and running them through the onkyo TXL 50 it sounds amazing. Massive improvements in all areas, especially voice. He also sorted me out with a 4k blue ray player and the results are equally satisfying. Thanks again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb product Bought this product to replace an older receiver and I am very pleased that I did. The features of this unit make the sound from CDs fantastic and the definition to a 4k TV from DVD or Cable is superb.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful slimline transceiver, excellent value This was purchased in conjunction with a PX727-4K projector following the demise of a trusty Optoma HD20 & Pioneer 527, it also coincided with the purchase of a mixer and two vinyl decks. The transceiver has delivered everything that has been asked of it, it is excellent when watching 4K movies or playing on PlayStation 4 games providing the full range of sounds at the volume levels required. When it has been used as part of the decks and mixer setup, it provides sufficient power for the speakers so that irrespective of whether it is house music, classical or jazz the sounds is always crisp. I would definitely recommend as a great value 4K transceiver and part of any starter kit to go with an entry level 4K projector as part of an initial home cinema or gaming setup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent product that exceeded expectations My previous amp prior to this was an 11 year old Onkyo SR505e - yes, that's going back a while. Although that was working fine, I decided it was time for an upgrade. I've now had the TX-L50 for a couple of weeks and I'm happy to relate my feelings on the product to a wider audience. Firstly, it's important to note that this amp will only support up 5.1 surround sound set-ups. For me that's no problem as I only have a 5.1 set up and have no plans to change that any time soon. That being one of the limitations of the product, considering the majority of other comparable amps have 7.1 support, it really is pretty much the only limiting factor I've found for every day use. When you pit that against the host of positive features this amp provides, e.g. 4K HDMI support, network capabilities, Audio streaming support (inc Spotify, Deezer, Chromecast), Dolby Atmos support, etc... not forgetting it's beautifully sleek and elegant slim design, it's no wonder I've fallen in love with this model. The key attraction for me was the fact it's so slim. It means it no longer clutters up the top of my TV cabinet. I can keep it on the lower shelf and it has more than enough room to breath (the shelf has a 10" height... the amp is only about 6"... my previous amp was 12"). I've not had any issues with it. It's quite intuitive to use, especially if you've had any kind of amp previously. It also has a handy remote control app you can download for your phone, making controlling the device even easier. The one thing I would say however, is that unlike other amps I've used, there's no way to control your television from the controller. This is a little annoying as I need to use the TV controller to literally just turn on and off the television. Everything else is done through Amazon Fire or whatever other device I'm using. Luckily I have a Logitech Harmony hub where everything is connected, and I just use Alexa to turn it all on for me. Hope this review is helpful for others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small unit, big sound Needed a small AV receiver to fit into my very small AV unit. Sounds just as good as my previous full size receiver. So long as you don't need any analogue video, thsi is ideal for tight spaces.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Size doesn't matter New furnishings dictated a change of amp (my old onkyo av receiver wouldnt fit anymore) The new 1 was so easy to set up & made an awesome noise. For a small slimline unit it is fantastic & Wi-Fi connectivity just adds to the wow factor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value Receiver with lots of input options The Onkyo TX-L50 was an easy choice. I needed something that would sound great, have plenty of inputs and hook-up with all my sound sources. This does the trick and it is a slimline box. I really don't like bulky AV kit and this fitted my custom-built AV shelves perfectly. Very happy so far but will get a better outing when I update my speakers too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits my needs for a discreet system I didn’t want a huge unit with a power output capable of shaking the house. My aim was to improve my TVs sound by repurposing 2 pairs of speakers as front and rear, some Wharfdale 8.2s at the front and Q acoustics at the rear. Speaker placement is determined by our current furniture so very non optimal! The Onkyo has a mike you plug in and it worked out how far the speakers are from my chair and happily accepted I only had 4 speakers - a 4.0 setup. It already sounded great and I wasn’t bothered by lack of a center speaker. Both speaker pairs are full range so there was plenty of base too. My TV is only 1080p and doesn’t support hdcp so I’ve have a bit of a problem getting the TiVo to talk to the tv via the Onkyo. It will, but I have to change input sources a few times until it works. Most likely this is the fault of the TiVo so I’ve plugged that back into the TV and brought audio back to the Onkyo with an optical cable (the TV doesn’t do ARC either) which will do until I can update the TV). My Sony 4K BlueRay player has no issues playing through the Onynx and they are great together. An Amazon Firestick is plugged in the back and works fine too. I particularly like the display on the unit that repeats the on screen menu display. That’s been well thought out. Despite sounding great I decided to go to a 5.1 setup so I’ve added a Yamaha sub and a Monitor Audio center. They are all brought together nicely by the Onkyo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sounds from a reasonably priced box. New furniture ment my audio would no longer fit. Do not underestimate this amp by it's smaller size. It is simply outstanding in spund and features. Highly recommended. Been going to Richersounds since they opened in Nottingham for all of my audio great staff and good service, they go the extra mile to help you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great performance and small size Bought couple weeks ago and installed straight away. The clarity of the speech is much improved over the standard HiFi I had the telly running through before. Also the space in my TV cabinet woulkd not fit any other AV Receiver. They are all too high! Also it has a Sub woofer output that drives a passive sub woofer unlike most AV Receivers. Staff at Sheffield store very helpful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent purchase I bought this product two weeks ago from your prestwich store and the product does exactly what i wanted it to do and also the advisor was excellent with all the questions I asked him. I wasn’t sure which 5.1 system to buy but rob told me of the features each have and I decided to buy the canton. I am very please with my purchase and customer service was outstanding! I will be back if I need anything else. Cheers andy

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good features, good sound, good price, great size I bought this to replace a Yamaha RXA1010, which is a great amp but no longer fit in my house after a bit of re-modelling. I was a bit nervous about dropping from a higher end amp (albeit quite a few years old) to this, but sound wise I've not been disappointed at all. It's a bit brighter than the Yamaha, but I always thought the Yamaha was a bit bass-y anyway. It's a fraction of the size (and weight) of my old amp. Features are at least as good with e.g. built in Spotify, Chromecast etc. The only downside is that the Bluetooth doesn't always connect, but I'm not sure if that's a problem with my phone or the amp. Would recommend to anyone who doesn't want / can't fit a traditional AV amp into their room. Used with Q Acoustics Q7000i package.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great piece of kit I have been wanting to replace our old Sony amp for sometime. But too many units are large in size and some are out of my budget range. The Onkyo TXL50 fits our budget and is small in size but it's output far better than the Sony which I suppose you would expect with a 10 year age difference. I don't know the tech stuff, all i know is that it's a great piece of kit.
