"The latest version of the long-running Debut remains a winner. Recommended." What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision magazine 5-star review.

Engineering from a class above

For some time now, the Pro-Ject Debut has been a near default choice in the budget turntable market - and for good reason. Rather than adding fancy automated mechanisms, Pro-Ject has always concentrated on giving the best engineering quality possible for the money. Following on from other award-winning Pro-Ject Debut turntables, the Debut Carbon DC offers a stunning specification with sound quality to match.

Carbon fibre tone-arm
The key feature with the Debut Carbon is the addition of a carbon fibre tone-arm tube. Usually only found on much more expensive turntables, a carbon fibre tone-arm tube provides significant benefits to the sound quality. Being stiffer than steel, the tone arm is more rigid. This helps convey the music more accurately as there's also reduced arm resonance. In short, the music sounds tighter, punchier and more detailed than before.

Tweaks taken from the SE model
The revised Debut Carbon comes with a larger and more stable platter, providing a more solid bass response with added weight, while improved motor dampening using Sorbothane helps give better isolation. In terms of sound quality, isolating the motor means less background noise and a more dynamic and revealing sound.

Engineered for purity of sound
The rigid plinth with anti-vibration feet is ideal in providing a similarly taut sound quality. The motor itself is decoupled to further reduce vibration. Using a brass bearing housing and stainless steel axle, the platter hub is superbly engineered and built to close tolerances for fine sound and longevity. There's also a good quality Ortofon cartridge included, so it's ready to go straight out of the box.

Updated styling
With its gloss black plinth, the Debut Carbon looks far classier than previous Debut III models. Combined with its high quality engineering, this Pro-Ject turntable really does give the impression that it comes from the class above.

For quality vinyl replay, pure and simple, there's nothing to beat the Debut Carbon DC at this price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Upgrade Couple of weeks in and have worked through a lot of my favourite LP’s on this deck. Difference in the sound compared to my old deck is huge. Feels much more expensive than the £300 I paid. Delivery service excellent. Setup reasonably straight forward, Youtube tutorial helps if needed. Outstanding piece of kit from Pro-Ject.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound and no fancy systems Bought this to replace my 1981 Rega Planar 2 table. The sound is the same if not better. A bit tricky to set up, especially the counter weight system, but once it was up and running its almost as simple to use as the old Rega. With no fancy gadgets to go wrong on it,I hope it last as long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deserving of its great reputation Getting back into playing vinyl for the first time in many a year. So glad I arrived in deciding on this particular turntable. Lovely warm sound. Rediscovering my old lps as long lost friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy set up and great sound The set-up process was easy following the included instructions. Sounds great combined with my onkyo amp and Dali speakers. Only annoying feature is the fact you need to take the plate off to change the speed

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Staff I've got to say, everytime I visit the Liverpool store it doesn't matter what member of staff I see they are all excellent and go out of the way to help you and their knowledge on the items is second to none

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sounding great, straight out of the box. I've never stopped playing records, and still have every LP that I've bought since 1965 (bar one). However, the vast bulk of those I do have were acquired from the early '70s onwards. I've had 5 turntables in all that time (two of them Pro-Ject); nothing exotic, but capable. Then last week I decided to buy the Debut Carbon. Frankly, I am stunned by the performance of this turntable at the price. Although I have yet to delve into recordings I bought in the 1960s, albums that are nearly 50 years old sound so much better than I have ever experienced. The once all-too-apparent surface noise is now virtually non-existant, and each and every recording sounds musical. VERY musical. This turntable doesn't just play records, it engages the listener and holds their attention from beginning to end of every side played. It is also easy to add upgrads should you wish to pursue that route in the future. Recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic for the price! Always had Project as the turntable for me and after talking to Tim at Leeds about the one to opt for the Debut Carbon it was! Easy to set up, looks great and sounds fantastic hooked up to the Cambridge CXA60 amp and Monitor 2 Bronze speakers I purchased!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good sound. Good looking turntable, sounds nice, best used with the lid off as you can hear the motor when it's down and the hinge system really lets it down. This is a replacement deck, I returned the first due to the hinge coming away from the plinth and knocking the forearm, resulting in a scratched record.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top piece of kit After reading glowing reviews I purchased this deck, and what's not to like. Relatively easy to set up, in conjunction with online video as well as the instruction manual, it looks good and sounds great. Having a great time rediscovering my vinyl collection!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great looks and great sound My 20 year old Technics unit died recently and as much as it pained me to replace it I eventually decided to go with the Project DEBUT CARBON. Getting it from Richer Sounds was a no-brainer, cheaper than any other store, 6 year warranty and next day delivery! About the turntable itself, it looks every bit as gorgeous as it does in the photos. Very subtle branding on the tone-arm with the power button and belt being completely hidden. Definitely worth the few extra quid over the Project ESSENTIAL III. It was a doddle to set up and has a cueing lever which isn't immediately obvious from the info online. Sound is completely subjective but this does sound great and I'm having fun working through my records. Would definitely recommend as an entry-level turntable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amp I needed a small amp due to confined space and storage. When I got my new amp home it wasn’t what I perceived in power output. Spoke to the shop and they arranged a demon for me with the same deck and speakers through different amps. I am now one happy bunny the first amp was exchanged for an amp that will more than deliver my expectations. Once again Richer Sounds goes beyond their customer care package and goes the extra mile. Thank You

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Huge value for money... Really well engineered for the price, except the clear Perspex cover and hinges. Nothing at all wrong with them, they just don’t match the high quality of the main unit... just aesthetics. The set up manual is written by the engineer rather than the average person constructing a boxed item! But if you’ve done similar in the past, it will come back to you! As a mid range unit, and bought as an introduction to vinyl for my daughter. Hopefully it will be a legacy or a step onto the next level.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vinyl comes to life Early Christmas present as I plan to restart my vinyl collection all over again. Hooked it up with project phono box mm and my B&W Zeppelin speaker. Sound is tremendous, literally hearing details I have never noticed before on CD or in my youth of listening to vinyl on old turntables. Easy set up, fantastic price and good delivery from Richer Sounds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolute quality For the money the project debut carbon is the best on the market. Quality sound and looks great with carbon tone arm. I’ve added my onkyo amplifier with a built in preamp, and Dali pico speakers.. the three sound great together!
