”The UBP-X800M2 is the latest in a successful line of 4K Blu-ray players from Sony.” ’What Hi-Fi?’ – 5 Star review.

Ultimate picture quality

Now widely established, 4K Ultra-HD is the reference standard for Hi-Res video playback. Freed from the compression constraints of 4K streaming services, UHD Blu-ray delivers the highest quality image quality and without the concern of Internet or wi-fi dropouts.

Support for Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG
Compatibility with Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG formats gives the UBP-X800M2 wide-ranging compatibility with the latest high resolution video formats. All these technologies produce the sharpest resolution with eye-popping levels of detail and realism.

4K upscaling for your existing Blu-ray discs
As well as UHD Blu-ray discs, the UBP-X800M2 also plays conventional (FHD 1080p) Blu-ray discs to a higher standard. Provided your TV accepts a UHD 4K signal, the Sony upscales the image to make use of its full resolution, giving improved detail and realism.

HDR to SDR convertor
If your current TV isn't compatible with HDR, the Sony features an HDR to SDR convertor. Sony's unique technology lets you playback HDR-encoded discs on a regular 4K UHD TV, offering the highest picture quality possible.

Supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X discs
This player not only supports the highest quality picture formats, it also supports the best movie sound formats. When used with a suitable multi-channel sound system, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X provide sensational audio, with object based imaging for a totally immersive sound.

High-Resolution Audio compatible
Whether you choose to play from disc, USB or stream via a DLNA compatible network, the UBP-X800M2 is compatible with a wide range of Hi-Res music files. 24-bit/192Hz FLAC and DSD (Direct Stream Digital) files give superb sound quality, meaning you won't need to add a separate network streamer to your AV system.

Premium build quality for cleaner sound
Built to higher standards than many Blu-ray players, Sony uses construction techniques more usually reserved for high-end Hi-Fi. The casing features Sony’s unique Frame and Beam chassis for excellent vibration resistance. Reducing vibration gives the internal electronics an easier life, thereby reducing distortion.

DSEE HX sound enhancement
Even if you’re not using Hi-res music sources, DSEE HX can help you get closer. Upsampling MP3s and other compressed music files, DSEE HX enhances the music signal, giving a brighter, more detailed sound.

4K video streaming
As well as 4K UHD Blu-ray discs, you can also take advantage of the Sony's 4K video streaming services. Already available via Netflix, Amazon and YouTube, 4K streaming takes streaming to another level of clarity and striking image quality.

Universal disc playback
As well as Blu-ray, DVD and CD, the Sony UBP-X800M2 plays a wide range of other discs. SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc) and DVD-A discs can be played as well as audio discs recorded using FLAC, DSD, ALAC or AIFF formats. This gives the Sony the ability to excel with High Resolution music formats, lifting its sound quality well above most Blu-ray players.

Twin HDMI sockets, USB and coaxial for easy connectivity
Twin HDMI sockets give you flexible connectivity. The second HDMI lets you run an audio source to another room or use the player with older AV receivers that won't pass through 4K HDR signals. The front-mounted USB interface is ideal for plug-in media players. A coaxial digital output gives compatibility with other digital components. Powerful, dual band, built-in wi-fi effortlessly links to your system.

Bluetooth output with LDAC
A Bluetooth output makes it easy to connect the Sony’s audio output to your Bluetooth headphones or speaker system – perfect for private or late night listening. LDAC gives you improved Bluetooth sound with around 3x the data of standard Bluetooth, giving improved detail and sense of depth.

Enjoy ultimate sound and vision, with the Sony UBP-X800M2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything my old player wasn’t I bought one of these to replace a 4 year old Samsung UBD-K8500 player that was getting flakier and flakier. Initial impressions are of a weighty, solid and very well made machine that should give many years’ service. Set up was easy and the player is silent in operation. Picture and sound quality are excellent - streets ahead of the first-generation Samsung machine - and the upscaling makes good Blu-rays look (almost) as good as 4K on my 75” Bravia TV. However, as others have noted, the lack of automatic Dolby Vision detection is a bit baffling. So far the machine has played everything I have put in the tray or plugged into the USB port, including video files on a USB-powered portable hard disk with a deep folder structure. This promises to be an excellent purchase, and first class service from Richer Sounds makes it even better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great build excellent sound quality I bought this player a few weeks ago and got a great deal with the Tele sales. Delivery was prompt and updated frequently. It is heavy when 1st out of the box. I'm loving the sound quality with sacd dvd audio and 4k discs. I haven't got a hdr tv as yet but my panasonic 4k tv will do for now. So I'm not getting the full potential yet. Well recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sensible amount to spend I bought the Sony as my Harmon Kardon of 17 years died. It's quiet and as my AVR manages the sound, then no point paying more for something that gets very little use .

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sony UBX800M2 Picture is good and sound is great with SACD and DVD Audio. Only problem is the WI FI connects to my router but the signal quality is poor and Netflix doesn't play which did on my old Blu Ray and still does from my TV. I think there may be a fault with it and I'm thinking of returning it. Ben at Maidstone was fully up to your high standard for staff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very solid machine that plays SACDs I bought this machine as I do play a lot of SACDs in surround sound. My previous Sony player dealt with the discs very well, always sounding as immersive as the music should in this format. I was concerned, however, that, should my player malfunction, I might well be left without the means to play SACDS in their surround format. Machines capable of playing these discs are few and far between and appear to be getting rarer. So I took the plunge and bought this newer version and have not been disappointed. Of course, it is very good on blu ray discs as well as red book CDs, but comes into its own through my AV amplifier and speakers. Also it feels very robustly built, which hopefully means many years of service. All for less than £300.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Picture and Sound Output. A great 4K player with excellent picture and sound.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Another example of a backward trend Well I knew there was no display on this player, but "really" the tiniest, and do mean tiniest led to show the thing is on. Another huge disappointment, and one of the reasons for my purchase was that it is advertised as having Bluetooth allowing audio to be used obviously with a Bluetooth device, in my case my Apple Earpods at a mere £150, well that was short lived, sure it connects to them, but forget using them to listen to the player, the volume is barely above a whisper, there is a Bluetooth volume control, but it has no effect on my Earpods, Sony absolves themselves of any blame for this state of affairs as they say the Bluetooth volume may or may not work according to the device you are trying to pair with, although of course you don't know this until you have parted with your cash. Lastly, so called upscaling to 4K from normal Blu Ray discs, shows no meaningful difference to a non upscaling £100 Sony player that I purchased 10 years ago, in short I'm hugely disappointed, and wish I had never bought the thing, oh well, you live and learn.
