If it’s powerful dynamic sound from a big brand speaker you want, there’s little in its class to match the Tannoy Mercury 7.4.

Flexible speaker
The Tannoy Mercury 7.4 is the perfect speaker for both stereo and home cinema sound. Thanks to its wide frequency response, you don’t have to pair it with a subwoofer for powerful bass. The high efficiency design also suits less powerful amps, making it the ideal floorstander to use with mini hi-fi systems that tend to offer lower power outputs.

Powerful bass response
Featuring twin woofer units, the Mercury 7.4 has no problem reaching the low notes. Combined with the large, bass reflex cabinets, the Mercury 7.4 effortlessly powers basslines. Whether it’s a stadium rock concert, action movie soundtrack or full orchestra, the Mercury 7.4 provides all the drama of the live event.

High resolution sound
Featuring a Nitro-urethane damped tweeter, the Mercury 7.4 hits frequencies as high as 32,000Hz. Although this is well above what we can hear it does mean that the high frequencies we can hear are less affected by harmonic distortion – making it the ideal match for Hi-Res music sources.

High efficiency
A class-leading sensitivity figure of 93dB means the Mercury 7.4 is an easy load for your amp. This means that even small mini systems with a power output of 20 watts can easily drive the Mercury 7.4. It also means that you need less power to deliver high volume levels, saving you power in the process.

Smart good looks
Finished in a black oak effect trim, these Tannoy speakers blend in with a wide range of furniture and equipment. Smart plinths are also supplied, helping to improve the speakers’ stability and bass response. To protect the drive units from accidental damage, removable grilles are fitted as standard.

Get more bass for your buck, with the Tannoy Mercury 7.4.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Floor standing speakers ! I love Tannoy speakers , i will not pretend otherwise , but not to the extent of buying them just for the sake of a badge . Luckily for me ( and the missus ) i buy audio equipment based on the the quality of sound as i perceive it should be . I therefore am able to ignore the ( advise ? ) of a supposedly respected hi fi review magazine , and purchase accordingly . These speakers are superb . They were good straight from the box , but after 24 hours continuous use i am one happy bunny ! Thanks to Richer Sounds York and Tom , for great service as per usual . Ordered Thursday morning and delivered less than 24 hours later . Still got my Tannoy sixes from 1992 ( Richer Sounds Weybridge ) but these .......well , try a pair for yourself . For those who are interested , these are driven by a Yamaha AS 301 , perfect for these transparent speakers !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Speakers I bought these speakers online Wednesday and they were delivered on Friday! So far so good you can't beat Richer customer service. Just like the last review I too saw the bad write up from one website online but don't let that put you off these speakers they are absolutely mint. They were bought to replace my beloved Mission i33's which have given me many hours of enjoyment but I wanted a bit more oomph in the bass department. Let me tell you these beauty's are very impressive in both looks and sound. At the moment for the price of £149 they're a steal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressed.. I initially got put off by the review on other sites but I bit the bullet and cannot believe how great they sound. The bass is out of this world especially while watching an action movie. If the base is too much, foam pads have been supplied to dampen it down. The build quality is good too..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for a home cinema system I dont listen to much music anymore, its mainly spoken word and dvd soundtracks. I am using the Chernobyl(Sky 2019) dvd boxset for this review and a Marantz PM5005 amplifier. It is a modern recording with a good sound balance. Many older films and british tv shows are bass light especially on the speech. Play the 2nd scene from Episode 1, where you see the reactor explode, i felt it explode and so did my neighbours. You will not need a subwoofer with these unless you are a total bass fiend. The system doesnt struggle, the Marantz is 40 watts per channel into 8ohms and the 7.4's are 8ohms and a sensitivity of 93db so they are an easy load for a fairly beefy(even if its a budget) amp. I got these at the special offer price of £149 so for 149 you get powerful beefy speakers and dont need to fork out extra for stands like you do with bookshelf speakers. Buy these and sit back watch and enjoy your favourite films, you wont be disappointed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bass freak I have had these speakers for less than a week had my old jamo speakers CD 200 for the best part of 30 years which consisted of 2 ten inch woofers horn and tweeter and 300watt power rating obviously I was expecting to spend a lot of money to replace them was not totally confident I would find any thing better .Took a blind chance on the mercury 7s going alone on the write up in richer sound advert after also reading some negative reviews, and I'm so glad I did from the moment I unwrapped them and set them up impressive .Good sound straight out the box.I have played these speakers through my denon 520 amp vinyl and cd I find the bass to be deep and round with no baffling middle and tops also concise and not getting lost in the bass as some reviews suggest these speakers are also wired to my marantz mcr611 which has a totally different sound and characteristics to my Denon here the middle and tops are further enhanced by the frequencies on the marantz and the bass is deep and smooth I also play music stored on my mac through my marantz using the iTunes e.q takes these to yet another level.Still only on day 5 impressed and they got more running in to do
