It's back! Familiar in style but completely re-engineered, the Technics SL-1200GR is better than ever.

The legend continues

Developed as a turntable that was sturdy enough to be used professionally but simple and attractive enough to use at home, the Technics SL-1200 was a hit from the beginning. Starting life in the early '70s, the SL1200 lived through many versions and is still seen by many as the reference deck for club use. The latest SL1200GR model is designed to appeal equally to DJs and audiophiles. With a wide breath of abilities this turntable truly does it all.

Coreless direct drive for the smoothest rotation
First developed for the top-spec 'G' model, a coreless motor is used to cut down on vibration. Development of a single-rotor, surface-facing, coreless direct-drive motor, results in the elimination of 'cogging' which can afflict other direct drive decks.

Rotation control developed through Blu-ray technology
Using motor control technology developed through Blu-ray players, the SL-1200GR verifies and corrects the precision of the motor for perfect pitch stability.

Heavyweight platter construction
Everything about the SL-1200GR's construction is designed to reduce vibration and improve sound quality. The new die-cast aluminium platter features rear-bracing and is 800g heavier than its MK5 predecessor. The improved mass and rigidity improves speed stability and reduces distortion for a cleaner, purer sound.

Fully adjustable tonearm
With high precision bearings and Technics's gimbal suspension system, the S-shaped tonearm is a classic Technics design. It also offers a wide range of adjustments, including VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle), weight and bias, making it ideal for a huge range of different cartridges and even different thicknesses of slipmat. The detachable headshell makes swapping cartridges a quick and simple process.

Connect your own cables
Rather than using static cables like SL-1200s of the past, the SL-1200GR features gold-plated RCA phono terminals. These let you choose your own length and quality of cable that's worthy of a deck of this standard.

Increased pitch control
A new 'x2' button lets you double the range of the pitch control from +/- 8% to +/-16%. This extra range makes it even more flexible as a mixing tool and even handier in the studio than ever.

A reference standard for your home or studio, the Technics SL-1200GR is a true legend within its lifetime.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Turntable The SL-1200GR is awesome. Had loads of different HiFi components over the last few years but can safely say this is the best sounding source I have ever had. Purchased with a Goldring E3 Cartridge which seems great value at under £80. Build quality is superb, easy to set up, very straight forward operation but most importantly the sound quality is superb. My floorstanding Pro-Ac Response D18 speakers have responded brilliantly to the Technics, never heard so much quality bass through them. When I stream Tidal after listening to the deck, it just seems to lack something now. Totally worth the money and thumbs-up for the cartridge as well. As an aside, had to buy online rather than the shop in Chester I normally use due to current lock-down, but spoke to one of the staff who was working from home and he was helpful in deciding a suitable cartridge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sound, build and look of it is just incredible. Technics SL-1200GR sound is unbelievably musical, pure and dynamic. And you just want to sit down and spin all your collection on this pretty and honestly build jewel of all turntables days and nights. Besides addictive sound it has been much and rightly improved looking at all previous iterations. From excellent new direct drive motor, better tonearm assembly to detachable RCA / power cables and a quality you expect from Made In Japan it has been released to impress as it does. I know there is a sea of other products but you get the Technics for what it is. A very pleasant surprise. Highly recommend to all who really cares. Thanks to Rob at Nottingham Richer for friendly demo and purchase. My setup: Technics w/stock headshell and mat. AT VM540ML cartridge. Yamaha RX-A1010 receiver bi-amped to Kef R5 speakers via QED XT40 cables. Atlas Element Integra RCA 0.5m. Perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sounding turntable with amazingly good build I have had this turntable a few months now and it is the best turntable I have ever owned (or used). It has the build of a tank but the looks of a high end sports car if you know what I mean. However, it is its sound and ease of use which are the most important factors for me. I have owned lower models in the Technics range back in the 1970's through to the early 1990's. I have also owned turntables by many other manufacturers in the past. I still own a current model British made turntable with a fixed headshell which I use in a different part of the house. I have also in the past frequently had access to use turntables made by other competitors. So, I know my way around a turntable. I have had no major complaints about any of the other turntables that I have owned or used. However, this Technics simply beats the lot of them especially in terms of sound quality and build quality. There is no contest. I have a collection of six different phono cartridges. They each have attributes that I like with either different types of music or different types of record, such as stereo or mono recordings. Swapping cartridges over to get the sound I want is just so easy and fuss free with this turntable. This process would be a right pain in the neck with a fixed headshell tonearm. I do not have any negative comments about this turntable. However, I would suggest that any new users treat the VTA setting guide in the manual as just a general guideline. In my experience, this turntables arm sits higher, (at even the lowest setting), than many of the arms on other turntables that I have owned and used. I had trouble getting one of my cartridges to play correctly when I measured its depth and set the VTA setting at 2 as suggested in the manual. When I lowered the VTA setting to position 1, the cartridge performed as it should. I am so pleased I bought this turntable. It is used nearly every day and I try to avoid commitments that will prevent me from being at home to use it. I guess that I may never use the pitch control feature, as I am not a DJ and bought it for home hi fi use. Its a great turntable and if you can afford it you should buy one. It has the ability to really enhance your listening experience. Got mine at Richer Sounds in Newcastle and their service was first class. It always is and it does not really matter which member of staff you deal with. All of the staff are friendly, polite and know about the products they are selling. I've been using this store for many years and it does not matter if you are buying a low budget item or a more expensive item like this turntable. In my experience their customer service is always among the best you will get anywhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even better than expected... What a machine! No messing around with stretchy belts or woolly mats. Just faithful, accurate playback. Paired mine with a Goldring 1042; great combo, but you'd be hard pressed to make this 'table sound bad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A solid performer! Very solidly built, and the turntable speed is very stable. My records sound even better than I remembered, even using my old cartridge, and I'm very pleased with my purchase.
