The best of Technics’ studio and club turntables – at home

Based on the legendary Technics SL1210, the SL1500C takes all the sophisticated drive mechanism but leaves the unnecessary DJ components for a high performance, home turntable. Discarding the pitch control, cue and strobe lights not only gives a cleaner style but also improves the sound quality through less complexity. A built-in phonostage, domestic cartridge and semi-auto operation make it more suitable for home use.

High torque, direct drive
When it comes to pitch stability and sonic precision, what’s good for the club and studio is equally good for the home. This is why Technics has used a version of its high torque, direct drive system for the SL1500C.

Improved, coreless motor for pitch-perfect sound
Based on technology from Technics’ reference SL1200 models, the SL1500C uses an all-new motor design with coreless tech. This results in the elimination of ‘cogging’ which can afflict other direct drive turntables. Cogging is an instability in the running speed, which gives inconsistent pitch. With the SL1500C, you get absolute pitch stability for a true and lifelike sound.

Solid design for low levels of distortion
Just like the Technics SL1210 and SL1200 turntables, the SL1500C is built to a high standard. The rigid, die-cast aluminium chassis uses a hybrid construction for superior resistance to vibration. Isolating feet and a damped platter further reduce resonance, meaning you hear more of the music’s fine detail and less distortion.

Classic tonearm
The SL1500C’s tonearm is a classic S-shape design that tracks precisely and is easy to handle. It also offers a wide range of adjustments, including VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle), weight and bias, making it ideal for a huge range of different cartridges. The detachable headshell makes swapping cartridges a quick and simple process.

Built-in phono stage
Featuring a built-in phonostage, the SL1500C can be used with a much wider range of hi-fi and powered speakers. So long as your system has an AUX socket, the SL1500C simply plugs in and plays. If you prefer to use your own phonostage, then simply hook up to the standard phono RCA outputs instead. For a high quality connection, all RCA phono sockets are gold-plated.

Semi-auto operation
Unlike in the club or studio, you can’t be expected to stand attentively at your turntable at all times. So you can relax when listening to music at home, the SL1500C features an auto arm-lift. At the end of the record, the arm lifts automatically, protecting your stylus and also the speakers from distortion. If you’d prefer not to have this facility, it can be switched off.

Supplied with an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge
Priced at around £100 in its own right, the Ortofon 2M Red is a great quality starter cartridge. With smooth, precise sound, it’s the perfect match for the Technics turntable. The 2M is also upgradable, with a range of higher quality styli (Blue, Bronze and Black) that can be slid on for an instant upgrade in sound, when funds allow.

Enjoy studio quality sound, at home, with the Technics SL1500C.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, simple high quality deck This deck came highly recommended & is as good as you would expect. Clear accurate sound, simple noisless drive function & overall a great sound source. The suplied cartrdidge/stylus option (Ortofon Red 2) also adds to the quality. Its so sensitve that I now have a slight bass feedback issue at (very) high volume, but this is a price worth paying for the overall sound quality. The trade off is quality vs. ability to really pumpup the volume... this is partly due to the environment its being used in but my old Thorens (now clearly a les bit of kit) could take amuch higher volume before feedback occured... mind you as I get older perhaps this is a sign to keep the volume down a little. These are quibbles - its a great sounding, easy to use & easy to set up deck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built like a tank. Sounds amazing Debated about buying the sl 1500 but very pleased I did. Excellent sound and great built quality, easy setup. Only slight gripe, the auto arm lift can be a bit previous and lift before record has fully finished so I would advise switching this off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Technics SL1500 After much research and help from Richer Sounds I bought this item. Was despatched immediately for next day delivery with no charge. Excellent, considering the current corona outbreak. As for the deck itself, wonderful. Not listened to vinyl for years, so it sounds different, better sound. Quality and build speaks for itself when you set up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Sound and great build . . . I bought this Technics 1500C for my office during 'lockdown' to compliment my HiEnd turntable in my listening room. Richer Sounds Southampton were really helpful and shipped it directly to my home. I chose a modern direct drive as I was really disappointed with the speed accuracy of some belt drive turntables. For me spinning at the correct speed is a minimum requirement. And the SL1500C uses Panasonic's Blu-Ray quartz clock to lock this in. But the shocking thing is. . . I just love using this deck so much more than my 'HiEnd' turntable. I've never listed to more vinyl. The build quality is just outstanding, every switch is so much nicer than most 'HiEnd' decks and the built in phono stage is remarkable good and an excellent match for my naim NOVA. The web is full of 'upgrade' options, but I left everything as is other than the bundled Ortofon cartridge which I upgraded on purchase from Red to Black as I'm a big fan of the Nude Shibata stylus profile. For me its brought the fun back into playing vinyl and if you buy one of these it might well be the only deck you'll ever need. . .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Technics is Back. Quality Product and Sound Many years ago I purchased a Technics Turntable, but with the decline in Vinyl I, it went into a Skip at the Local Refuse Site. Big mistake. Having just purchased a Denon 3500H from Richer Sounds, I wanted to get the best from the system with TV and Audio. Having added 4K TV and a UHD Player, I decided to purchase a Turntable in order to play my Vinyl Albums again that had been laying in a Cupboard for almost 30 years. Having checked the Richer Sounds website and What HiFi site, I decided to go with the Technics 1500C. Paul, who I accept as my account manager provided me with a good quote, and I took up the option irrespective of being in Lockdown. Delivery was quick and efficient. With some advice from Dan, the Richer Sounds Agent, I quickly set up the product with the Denon AVR system. The outcome was amazing. I forgot how great Vinyl's sound through stereo. The Technics turntable was a very well built product that looks good and feels good. However, the sound it produces was crystal clear, and brought it so many frequencies that help you pick up the voice and instrumental tones easily. Thank you to Paul at Richer Sounds for his help over the last 6 months in creating a fantastic system, and for Dan, in assisting me with the addition of the Technics 1500C.
