"Tonality is exceptionally good and it rarely sounds anything other than utterly believable and very assured." 'Hi-Fi Choice - Recommended'. Tested at £600 per pair.

Hi-Fi sound

They might not look like traditional Hi-Fi speakers but the Elipson Planet L sound every bit as good. The two-way design matches a fabric dome tweeter with 6.5" woofer for true, full-range sound. The coaxial design also delivers pin-point accuracy and stunning staging realism. The globe-shaped design isn't there just for style, either. The shape breaks standing and diffraction waves to reduce distortion and promote a less 'boxy' sound.

Global style
Far from the usual 'black box' design, the Planet L speakers have real style. With its retro dome shape and wide choice of colours, this speaker is sure to be a talking point. Like all Elipson speakers, it's beautifully built - using a tough ABS body and high quality grille.

Global placement
As well as looking great, the Planet L scores in that it will go almost anywhere. The supplied base stand lets you put it on a shelf, table or desk. Alternatively, optional stands are available for floor, wall or ceiling mounting. Magnetic shielding makes it safe to be placed next to magnetically sensitive storage devices and media.

With the Elipson Planet L, eye-catching design has never sounded so good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Other Worldly...Truly Music of the Spheres. I bought these Planet L’s along with the matching sub as an upgrade to my Wharfedale 230s. It’s not that the 230s were necessarily lacking in any major way but I began to suspect that my Yamaha AS701 was deserving of even better, added to the fact that the 230s were just so bulky, something which was only highlighted when we began looking to refurb the room and they just kept ruining every plan we made because they demanded so much space. I tried out some big named really small box speakers that I was initially quite impressed with but I very quickly grew tired of them in a way that I still can’t quite explain. I then looked at something a little bit larger which was immediately a whole lot more rewarding and I very almost put them at the top of a list of one until I was advised by the salesman (not from RS btw) that the stands, upon which the already budget-pushing speakers were bolted onto in the listening room, were more of a requirement than an option if I truly wanted to have any chance of getting a similar sonic experience at home. Whether up-selling or not the speakers plus their dedicated stands effectively turned them into floor-standers which more or less matched the Wharfedales for size. I went back to the drawing board and had another look at the Elipson Planets that I had inexplicably dismissed out of hand previously as just being eye-candy rather than proper… ear-warmers (yeah, I have no idea either). Frustratingly, I couldn’t find anywhere to put them to the test and so I finally contacted the importer. David there was most helpful and immediately arranged for an available pair of Planet M’s + sub to be delivered into RS in Bromley. A few days later I found myself sat in a listening room with RS’s Wilson in front of some Planet M’s + Sub. I knew from the moment they started playing that I’d found the answer to my problems with Elipson - but even though I was totally sold on the M’s in RS’s 4m x 3m (?) listening room I played uber-safe and opted for the Planet Ls to go in my 5m x 4.5m room. I will though most definitely go for the Ms when I upgrade my AV set up, So, here I am, a few weeks on, and connected to my lovely Yamaha AS701 I now have 2x Mercury Ice Planet Ls and a white sub for the ‘heavy lifting’, although TBH the L’s by themselves go down to at least 48hz which is almost as far down as the Wharfedales but I have the added luxury of boosting the bass whenever I feel like it without worrying about damaging anything. To my ears the L’s provide an astonishingly wide and stable soundscape and everything I’ve played through them sounds completely and utterly believable and entirely natural. The 230s sounded great but these Planets knock them out of orbit. So far, I’ve been particularly impressed listening to artists such as David Sylvian, Remember Remember, The Villagers, Lisa Hannigan, Polly Scattergood, John Grant, Father John Misty, The National as well as Philip Glass, Max Richter, Talk Talk, Steely Dan and Apparat, although out of respect to the Planets French origins, the very first album that I played through them was Jean Michel Jarre’s ‘Aero.’ They are still being run in but I already know that these are 'sont les chiens'
