"If you've already got a good DAC, the Cambridge CXC transport is a no-brainer." 'What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision magazine'. 5-star review. Tested at £300.

Transport-only design

The Cambridge CXC is a CD transport only, so inside you'll only find 'half' of what's usually inside a CD player. Although this may sound unconventional, it has many benefits. The most obvious of these is cost effectiveness, but there are sonic benefits to be had, too. Without an onboard DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor), the power supply only has to drive the CD transport. By being dedicated to this task it can provide a clean, stable power supply for the highest performance possible at its price.

Pair with your choice of DAC
Another advantage is increased flexibility. Chose to match with one of the Cambridge CXA digital amplifiers or use your own choice of DAC entirely. By starting with such a high quality transport design, the CXC could see you through many system and DAC upgrades without being in the least bit out of place.

S3 servo
Rather than using 'off the shelf' CD software, Cambridge uses its own S3 servo processor. Dedicated to CD music playback rather than the multi-purpose disc readers, the CXC maximises the full potential of your audio CDs. With state-of-the-art error correction your CDs simply sound more realistic, more dynamic and more detailed than with other players.

Sleek style
The CXC is part of the totally redesigned CX-Series. The distinctive tear-drop profile gives the CXC a contemporary look and makes it the ideal partner for the digital amplifiers and network player. Yet it's far more than just a good-looking case - it helps the sound quality, too. With rigid, metal construction and low-resonance design, the casing helps shield the player from both mechanical and electrical interference, helping to improve clarity and reduce background noise.

Dedicated to the finest sound from CD possible, the Cambridge CXC CD transport redefines CD playback quality at its price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looking for a cd transport? The Cambridge Audio CD transport works well in my system (Arcam FMJ A19, Arcam irDAD II and Castle Severn speakers).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A bargain Bought this about 6 weeks ago. Replaced an Arcam Alpha 7 SE going into a Musical Fidelity M1 DAC. The difference was immediately obvious and positive in no small measure! Only two negatives so far: the remote is rubbish, being generic to the whole series and virtually useless - luckily my Arcam remote can do most functions; secondly the display is far too dim, and can't be read from the listening position.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Good Buy - Cambridge CXC A good product. I use mine with toslink cable to an Arcam rDAC fed into Krell and Wilson Benesch, so high-end kit. The resulting sound is very, very clear, almost analytical, but the sound-stage is pinpoint accurate. If your amp and speakers have a little softness in them, this would be a 5* upgrade for them. Try this with Diana Krall, or well-recorded Steinway piano and you will be enthralled. The CXC appears well made, and the remote is exemplary.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderfully but beware Sounds fantastic, but will only play pristine discs, other than that it's worth twice the asking price in my opinion,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good Bought this "blind" on the basis of a what hifi review. It is used with my Naim Supernait 2 (and Oppo Sonica Dac) so it is in very good company. I have to so far the sound and the quality of the build is very good. Service from Richer Sounds was good- they delivered quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Cambridge Audio Combination I am delighted with my Cambridge Audio CXC CD transport which I purchased with their CXA60 amplifier and a pair of Monitor Audio BRONZE 5 floor speakers. I spent a very interesting morning at Richer Sounds in Gidea Park, Romford where, with thanks to Ian, the manager at this branch, I played extracts from six CDs, chosen to represent a good cross section of the music I play on a regular basis, on this combination, having first done so on the Marantz DPM6006 UK EDITION coupled with their CD6006 UK EDITION CD player - the Cambridge Audio combination was a clear winner. It is worth stating that, if one is replacing a standalone CD player, the CXC CD is a transport system and lacks the internal DAC that conventional CD players have built in - this is why this unit might appear to offer particularly good value for money. Cambridge Audio's CXA60 amplifier has a built in DAC which helps make it such a good, if comparatively expensive option - the two together cancel each other out in value for money terms and offer great sound quality. The way forward, with a standard amplifier, would be to purchase a DAC with the CXC CD
