Cambridge Audio Solo (Graphite)
MM Phono Preamplifier
£129
Whatever amp you have, the Cambridge Audio Solo gets you closer to the true sound of vinyl.
Perfect for amps without a phono preamp built-in
Many amplifiers no longer come with a built-in phono preamp, which is fine if you don’t use vinyl but not so good if you want to spin some records. The Cambridge Audio Solo is a dedicated Moving Magnet phono preamp, meaning you can add a record deck to just about any amp or system with a standard AUX input. This means your choice of stereo amp or receiver is greatly expanded and, of course, you can retain the Solo phono preamp if you upgrade your main amp.
Perfect for amps with a phono preamp built-in!
Even if your main amplifier already has a phono preamp built-in, the chances are that the one inside the Solo is considerably better. Using a dedicated, switch mode power supply, the Solo is far quieter than most built-in phono preamps. The revised circuit board layout with surface-mount components further reduces noise and distortion. Factor in the shielded casing and you’ll simply hear more music and less background noise.
Subsonic filter
Not all records are pressed the same – due to the poor quality of vinyl used, some sound considerably nosier than others. Wear and tear can play its role in reducing the quality, too. With its subsonic filter, the Solo filters out low frequency rumble; reducing distortion and protecting your speakers’ woofers from excessive wear.
Make a stronger connection with your record collection, with the Cambridge Audio Solo – it’s the best upgrade to your vinyl playback you can make.

An excellent reasonably priced upgrade.
I bought this as I felt the existing phono stage in my big Yamaha AV amp probably wasn't the best. A very obvious upgrade, everything is simply 'better.
As always, great product, great price, and great service from the guys at Newcastle Upon Tyne branch.
What more could one ask for?

Cambridge Audio Alva Solo
Was looking for a pre amp for my technics 1210 mk2, have always run it through pioneer mixers in the past and wanted to try a studio grade audio path. I chose the above Cambridge unit because of its simplicity, but let me tell you that coupled with a moving magnet cartridge for the Technics the sound is a whole new level. Louder , more detail, mojo and 3D it’s all there. Highly recommended.

Great sound and easy to connect
Easy to install, just needed an RCA cable to connect the Cambridge Solo to my amp. Connected the Solo to my old Pioneer turntable and amazed at the quality of sound.

I didnt know I needed this until I plugged it in!
I was using the phono stage through my Yamaha integrated amp and it was fine. But, I just felt there was something missing from within the music. I spent some time on good old You Tube watching reviews and advice and the Alva Solo jumped out at me, as I already had the CXC CD transport and then added the CXN v2 it was the Solo that joined the family. The first time I plugged this in, and it is so simple to add to your system. Just bring your cable from your turntable to the Solo and then from the Solo to your amp (just remember you will need an additional cable and don't connect it to the amp phono stage). The first album was of course Pink Floyd 'Dark side of the moon' the difference was really audible to my ears. The sound stage opened up, the depth of the nuances within the album came through stronger and the music just seemed to pull me in more, sorry for the non audiophile explanation but I just cant do the difference justice with my limited tech vocabulary. But believe me you will really notice an uplift in your music with this phono stage, especially if your phono stage is entry level like in my Yamaha A-S301. One other thing, they are committed to looking after the earth, all their packaging is recyclable, even the shipping envelope on the outside of the box is made of paper!

Great sounding pre-amp
I purchased the Audio Solo to replace my turntable's built-in pre-amp, and the difference was very clear to hear. Much better gain on the output, the clarity and noise was improved, but the greatest improvements were to the stereo image and to the dynamic range. Snares and drums in particular were noticeably punchier.
The solo includes a left-right balance adjustment which is very handy, although it is sensitive to noise from other electrical items plugged into the same house circuit.
It is quite expensive, but worth it when on sale.

Good service
I bought this to upgrade my existing amp. Once set up it has made such a defference to the quality of the sound generated from my turntable.
