Unbelievable value - step away from the Ortofon
I bought this from RS in Chester, as a "spare" and backup for old records, I normally use an Ortofon OM Bronze on a Thorens deck. It is so nice, I can't believe it, believable deep and controlled bass, good clarity, I love it, in fact I am going to retire the Ortofon and stick with this cheap and cheerful performer. By the way under the skin it is an AT, no wonder I like the sound.

Firstly , thanks to Olivia and Paul (who fitted the cartridge for me) at RS Cambridge who were both very helpful.
The OM 10 fitted to my 10 year + old Pro-Ject Debut 3 contributed to a very bright (and sometimes shrill ) sounding system. and needed changing.
As it wasn't possible to first hear the cartridge in action at RS, i settled on the E3 based on the many positive online user reviews of the cartridge (including those on the RS site).
On playing, the smoother richer tone that some have mentioned is very evident and the mid-range less “cluttered” with more space between instruments and layers of sound becoming audible where they were not with the Ortofon. It offers a “nuanced” sound and it is clear to see why this cartridge was awarded “Best Buy” status by What Hi Fi magazine. For less than £100 (currently) I am not sure that there is a better cartridge to be bought.
People will have their own preferences and what suits them and their system will differ, but if you are looking for something different from the “obvious” choices (and at a very competitive price), then I would suggest you should consider the E3 before making a decision about what to buy.

A good product and sounded great on my equipment
I have only played a few LP's in my collection since fitting the E3MM but everyone sounds much better. There is much more detail in sound on all the range of frequencies.

Superb sound, such a reasonable price cartridge!
I didn’t expect a great sound from the Goldring E3mm but it was superb! Very rich and deep tones and especially bright. Makes my old vinyl collection sound great again. Well worth the price!

WOW!
It may go without saying that sounds and music are very subjective, but this is easily the best cartridge that I've owned across the last 50 years!
Speaking as a professional bass player (and my current hi-fi system is pretty modest I guess - Rega P1 Eco Plus, Cambridge 340 Azure and KEF Q5 floorstanders) this Goldring E3 knocks the socks off anything in its own price range (and possibly some way above it too!).
If I listen to albums I've played on, I hear stuff I wasn't even aware of for the first time! The detail and sound-stage is outstanding, almost like an audio holograph - and the E3 is never shrill or hard in the upper and mid ranges, vocals sound great, and the bass end is solid, never overblown. The exact same is true for the rest of the albums I own - a fairly mixed bunch - and one revelation follows another!!
It's now a pleasure to listen to LPs old and new, and I find myself just totally immersed in the music itself - blissfully unaware of the system it's being played through - which I reckon speaks volumes! Big thanks to Goldring then, and of course to RS for their usual spot-on service.
