The long-throw, active 12” woofer is reinforced by a pair of ABRs (Auxiliary Bass Radiators) that help drop the bass to a prodigious 20Hz extension. Matched to a mighty 600 watt, Hypex Class-D amp, the Gold W12 simply keeps going with ample in reserve for the most dynamic movie soundtracks and music events.

As well as being powerful, the Gold W12 is also highly controlled. Using a C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium) cone that's rigid yet light gives a responsive bass. Tuneable sound with SubConnect
Connect up by USB and you can use Monitor Audio’s SubConnect app for a wide range of setting tweaks. Four, fully configurable settings include modes for Flat/Music/Movie and Impact. Fine tune these by adjusting the frequency, slope, trim and EQ filters and you have a subwoofer that’s perfectly tailored to your tastes. If you want to rein in the sub for late night listening, then simply select ‘Night Mode’ for reduced dynamics.

Monitor Audio Gold W12
My investment in the W12 was made after considerable research and discussions with the excellent staff at Richer Sounds from Southampton. I have Platinum100 II standmount speakers which were doing a super job but I wondered if this could be further improved with the addition on a sub woofer. My research indicated that I could expect an overall improvement and after looking at options decided to go with the same brand of sub-woofer as my standmounts despite the not insignificant price differential. Here are my findings:-
- set up relatively straight forward although the Monitor Audio Sub Connect software is only Windows based. No IOS equivalent. Following the manual I could set up the sub using 'on-board' controls and Monitor Audio confirmed that there had been no firmware updates for the W12. So all ok to get going. I will find an old Windows laptop for fine adjustments available via the software idc.
- The overall system sound quality has improved as much I had hoped. The sub has taken away the need for the standmounts to cope with base frequencies and to my ears, the mids and trebles handled by the standpoints have become much more defined and cleaner. The sound stage seems to have improved too. I have settled for a crossover point of 65Hz and at this level the sub has merged nicely within the overall sound output.
- The depth to my music playing is noticeably more fulfilling and satisfying enhancing my enjoyment of all types of music genres. My musical taste ranges from Ben Bohmer to Pretty Reckless to warm Jazz. Everything I have listened to has improved. Most noticeably the Jazz which now has a new clarity and lovely deep double bass notes.
In summary, I am pleased with the improvement in my sound system that the W12 has made, although I am not sure that my neighbours quite share my enthusiasm!

Big lovely beast
Sub was to replace my older MA wrs silver 12 sub, the new gold is a good bit bigger but not overly big. The sound is much strong and sub goes much lower and more controlled with it. I had an issue when my PC was connected to sub, i was getting interference through the sub only via PC. I traced it to being eiher the sub or Graphics card, getting new sub to try this week. My silver sub had no such issues with pc. All in all its a lovely looking Subwoofer and i would recommend it 100%

Great power and sound delivery
Had the sub for a couple of weeks. Had some hum when connected to amp but resolved with an earth cable. Switches on automatically when running sound through Amp. It delivers bass impressively in a way you can feel as well as hear! Very easy to adjust volume with remote. If you like a decent base with your music, this sub will please you, but probably not your neighbours....it is expensive though but worth it if you want a premium sound. Works well with the C250 monitor gold centre speaker, both purchased from Richer Sound in Southampton, great advise and service as ever.
