Combining a powerful amp, DAB tuner and comprehensive music streamer, the Onkyo TX8250 is a dream package.

A stereo receiver that does it all

Much more than just a stereo receiver, the Onkyo TX-8250 comes equipped with the most comprehensive range of streaming options. A powerful 100 watt amp matches up to a network streamer with support for Bluetooth, AirPlay, Chromecast, Spotify, Tidal, Deezer, Fire Connect plus much more. If this isn't enough there's also a DAB/FM tuner radio plus a wide range of inputs including USB, digital and even a phono stage for your turntable. This Onkyo receiver has all bases covered.

Smooth, powerful sound
The powerful 100 watt amplifier uses high quality components to deliver a sound that's smooth and powerful. High-current, discrete amplification and custom made components keep the sound high in clarity and low in distortion. Non-phase-shift circuitry focuses the audio to give a wide frequency response – ideal for Hi-Res audio and vinyl sources.

Hi-Res Audio playback
At the heart of the Onkyo's digital processing is a top quality AK4452 DAC (Digital to Analogue Convertor). This not only provides a transparent and lifelike sound but also facilitates the playback of High Resolution audio formats. The TX8250 is compatible with a wide range of HD audio formats, including DSD 5.6 MHz and FLAC 192kHz-24-bit for exceptional sound quality.

Bluetooth, AirPlay and Wi-Fi
Connect up the Onkyo to your network with Wi-Fi. Apple's AirPlay lets you wirelessly stream music from any compatible Apple device - without the need for a separate home hub. The Bluetooth receiver supports streaming from your smartphone, tablet, laptop, PC or other Bluetooth source. There's also access to Internet radio and music services such as TIDAL and Deezer, making the TX-8250 perfect for your music streaming needs.

Chromecast built-in
Chromecast lets you stream music, podcasts and audio apps, including Google Play, at the touch of a button. Having it built-in saves the battery life on your phone as the phone's Bluetooth transmission system isn't used for this purpose. Being able to stream straight from the cloud also gives the best audio quality (available with future firmware update).

Compatible with DTS Play-Fi
DTS Play-Fi is a premium, wireless control system that brings everything under one 'roof'. Download the free app and you'll not only have access to Internet radio but also popular music apps such as Spotify, Tidal, Deezer and Napster. As well as bringing all your streaming sources together, Play-Fi offers the potential for full multi-room music. Simply add other PlayFi compatible sources and you'll quickly be able to build up a comprehensive music system around your home - all under the control of a single app.

FireConnect
The Onkyo is also compatible with FireConnect, Powered by Blackfire. This cutting-edge wireless technology gives multi-source, multi-room interaction between compatible devices, making it simple to set up a wireless multi-room system that also streams HD audio and will include video in the future. With our homes becoming ever 'smarter' this is the technology to integrate it all together.

Connect up your turntable
It's not just the latest wireless sources that the Onkyo has covered, it can handle hi-fi sources, too. Six line inputs and four digital connections are ample for the most complex of home entertainment systems. You can even plug in your turntable, thanks to the dedicated phono (MM) input.

DAB tuner
The final part of the massive spec is a built-in DAB/FM tuner. Ideal for a range of national and local stations, the tuners offer a combined pre-set storage of up to 40 stations – letting you store and find your favourites in an instant.

All the streaming and inputs you could want, without having to compromise on sound, the Onkyo TX8250 is a classic all-rounder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great network streamer, receiver, amp I've had this a month and I'm really pleased with it. Streams everything from my NAS and Internet, DAB FM AM radio and plenty of analogue inputs for all my old kit. Lots of power and sounds fantastic, so far can't fault it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great flexibility and super sound to go with I bought this to replace a mini receiver whose DAB had failed. I needed lots of inputs as well as a DAB Radio - it does also have loads of other features, like 'Network' which I have yet to work out! From the moment its radio came on I though YES! I have had and listened to HiFi sytems for over 50 years and this is superb. I didn't really need 135 W /channel but it helps it sound like nothing is a stuggle everything is handled perfectly. I currently have 2 systems and was almost tempted to buy the same receiver for the other room but my other one is also really good - one of the nicest amps I had ever head - so to have 2 systems which both sound that good is a dream. One excellent feature is having a USB on the front that will play almost anything!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job I bought this based on reviews, budget, and requirements. I did not have a demo, or try out other amps. It is hooked up with Tannoy Mercury V4 floor-standers, and a Cambridge Audio SX-120 sub-woofer (added later). The sound was very good at first - great clarity, but I wanted a bit more depth/oomph, and the sub-woofer has complimented things nicely. I play wide range of music. I tend to focus on rhythms, and riffs, rather than lyrics, and enjoy funky/punky noises with plenty of bass and percussion. This set up does the job. Cheers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sound is like 3D compared with listening to 2D As usual Richer Sounds is the first place I go to if I'm needing anything to do with telly or sounds. I got a good discount on the Onkyo CD Player as it was on show in the shop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally listening to good, clear sound again :) onkyo tx8250 review OK, longish story Longish story... Way back in the 70’s I built myself a pair of enclosures for Jordan Watts modules (Juno I think. Dimensions from waving my hands about: 70 x 30 x 20 [will have to check with new owner] ). They were in regular use - until divorced. It happens. Left at my Sister’s. A few years later, me now working in Italy, I took them with all the other stuff (mainly Pioneer TT and now ageing Henly (?) amp - chosen for tech spaces as well as price. Superb damping factor). I always loved the clarity of those Jordan Watts; I do not like the brrmmph of over emphasised base. Time passed…London… Stuff put into store…then, a year ago at a family do I mentioned that I had some old equipment that I had, would love to use, but didn’t have space for. The mention of turntable caused an intriguing facial reaction. …time passed and I eventually got the stuff up to Scotland. I was feeling rather apprehensive about the state of the JW after a time of no use in store and knowing that the usual rubber support of drivers goes with time. First reaction was, “I’m hearing things on this disc that I’ve not heard before ” :) As far as I know, they are still performing well; the amp had been replaced with an Onkyo 9010 and I was reading very good reports. I was happily envious - but there was no way those JW or similar could have room found for them. Went into York branch or RicherSounds. Very friendly. I explained that I was looking for a replacement for my JordanWatts (seems that few younger than 60 have heard of them) but would like to start my search with some sort of metal coned driver. Enter Monitor Audio Bronze 2. Impressive. Rather bothered about how I’d get them back to Italy (case already full) I left it on hold - that was after learning that Chiswick, my next port of call, also had a RicherSounds. It does seem that the staff at RicherSounds are not just knowledgeable about the equipment they sell but are also very accommodating. Down in Chiswick I listened to Monitor Audio Bronze 2, Silver 50, and Silver 100. Each a wow on the previous. Maybe I’d mentioned the Onkyo, don’t recall, but the amp used to pump sound to the speakers was the TX8250. I was ignorant about streaming amps; I’d given all my old LPs away in 2010 and I’ve read so much about the Digital Analogue discourse. Suffice to say that I did not want to start rebuilding a vinyl collection and, up to last October, I was OK with CD and the usual sampling rate with subsequent analogue. I listened, at Chiswick, to Genesis Foxtrot (remastered) streamed from Tidal. Big happy sigh. Then sampled quite a few other bits. As I said, the RicherSounds people seem very accommodating. I decided on the 8250 with the silver 100s. How to get them to Italy? I found an agency that uses UPS. Cost about £55 with both items individually insured; arrived in just under a week. (the only niggle being that I started receiving loads of unwanted publicity calls. Presumably the delivery men selling phone numbers) One of the first albums I purchased was Dave Brubeck’s Time Out - my first experience of an MQA recording. Oh boy, I was in the studio. This streaming amp I so far have only praise for. It handles all that I can wish for; it has demonstrated why I’ve been dissatisfied many times by Bluetooth (I don’t know the actual tech specs of BT transmission but it’s not up to direct. Yet? There are some things that I’d like polishing: the iPhone app to control the unit is fine but I’d like to be able to queue up music (Yes, I know that tat can be done from Apple music sent wirelessly or by saving to a USB stick in wished for sequence). It seems that a direct, wired connection from iPhone to amp doesn’t work as I’d experienced with my old Denon. But still warrants five stars from me:)
