Powerhouse and amazing sound
Upgraded my Onkyo 929 for this beast mainly for Dolby Atmos which hasn't disappointed. With the Kef R50 Atmos Speakers and my existing B&W CM series home cinema it fits in perfectly and movies and music sound incredible.

Great-sounding receiver let down by HDMI issues
This receiver sounds fantastic; audio definition is pin-sharp and a vast improvement over the 19-year-old Denon receiver that it replaced. After completing THX calibration, the balance to the sound is impressive without exaggeration or excessive brightness. Listening to CDs is a delight, and the video and sound from a Samsung 4K player really does duplicate the cinema experience.
But when it's active, the receiver struggles with HDMI signals that it transmits to the TV perfectly in pass-through mode. I couldn't get sound or video off my old Cambridge Audio DVD player for more than a second or two; the same symptoms happened when I connected up my trusty old PS3. And with a brand-new Sony Blu-Ray player, whether I got anything appearing on the TV at all seemed initially to depend on the disc being played - some discs had sound but no video, others needed the receiver to be switched off and on again to achieve synch. But now the Onkyo won't even transmit the player's menu screen to the TV, showing a "no signal" message. For a unit at this price point, it's a major disappointment.

Awesome Sound, Awesome Service!
Being as obsessional about sound as I am about my TV display, I had a very specific and lengthy list of requirements of my new AVR. It was great to be able to walk into the Sheffield shop and have an in depth discussion with a knowledgeable team of experts who were clearly as fired up as me about my needs. Enter the Onkyo TXRZ3100, fitting into my heavily Russ Andrew adapted system, like a glove. . Currently in a 7.1.2 configuration, the soundstage is vast. The Dolby Atmos (Kef R50) is now an addition to the rear surround (as opposed to a replacement for it on my previous AVR). Helicopters overhead have us ducking for cover and previously unheard nuances are clearly audible. My Denon was a cracking AVR, but this is in a different league.

Onkyo Atmos Receiver
I have been using the onkyo for a while now it is an expensive piece of kit certainly a lot of features i would like to have seen it Auro ready with a firmware update so not sure if it will in the future, its certainly a great Atmos piece of kit
