“It may be pricey, but that sense of awe you get when watching 4K films on this Oppo is worth every penny” What Hi-Fi Award Winner 2017

No compromise picture quality

In selecting the advanced SoC (System on Chip) technology from MediaTek, the Oppo UDP-203 is the first UHD Blu-ray player to use this next generation of advanced image processing. This not only means 'reference' picture quality but also the ability to keep pace with the most advanced picture technologies, including various forms of HDR (High Dynamic Range) - the next generation of UHD.

UHD Blu-ray - the perfect match for your 4K UHD TV
At long last the resolution from films on Blu-ray now matches the UHD resolution of your 4K TV - maximising the potential of every pixel to give super-crisp detail and realism. With a wide range of UHD Blu-ray films already available, you can enjoy the very best in sound and vision from today.

HDR mode selection
Compatible with HDR, the UDP203 facilitates the highest standard of picture quality from a compatible HDR TV. If you don't have an HDR-equipped TV, one of the modes lets you select HDR to SDR (Standard Definition Resolution).

High Res Sound
As well as offering a new level of picture detail, the USP203 is also compatible with High Res Audio playback. FLAC, WAV and ALAC High Res files right up to 384kHz/32bit resolution and DSD256 (two channel) are covered. This high bit-rate and wide range of file formats gives you access to the best High Res music currently available.

Universal disc playback
Ideal for both the music lover and film buff alike, the Oppo UDP-203 plays back a massive range of disc formats. As well as UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray (including 3D), DVD and CD it will also play SACD and DVD-Audio discs, making it a truly universal player. You can also output the sound via HDMI audio, 7.1 channel RCA, or two-channel RCA phono, making it ideal for all types of AV receivers and amps.

Network equipped
With built-in dual band Wi-Fi at 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz it's easy to connect the Oppo to your wireless network, without interference. If you prefer a wired connection, an Ethernet LAN connection is also standard. Thanks to DLNA compatibility it's also easy to link up to any PCs, laptops or NAS drive units on your network and stream audio, video or photo content.

Flexible HDMI connectivity
With best in class connectivity, the UDP-203 goes above and beyond the norm. A second, audio only, HDMI output gives you the chance to enjoy UHD picture quality while also using an older, incompatible, AV receiver. Simply connect your TV to the main HDMI and AVR to the secondary output. There's also an HDMI input. This HDMI 2.0 standard input lets you loop through other 4K sources, such as a games console or set-top box - ideal when the TV only has a single compatible HDMI input!

Triple USB sockets
The mastery of connectivity continues with the trio of USB sockets. At the front of the player there's a USB 2.0 socket that's perfect for connecting USB memory stick. For plug-and-play audio and video you can't get easier than this. At the back are twin USB 3.0 sockets. These are ideal for more permanent connections, such as an HDD (Hard Disc Dive) up to 16TB for streaming media.

Squeeze every ounce of ability out of your HDR TV, with the Oppo UDP-203. Home cinema has never been so thrilling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from high quality item with outstanding performance the oppo udp-203 is the only bluray player that I would choose for under a grand. over that it would be the 205. I have the 203 connected to a yam rx-v775, optoma 3d projector, kef 5/2 11s, kef 301s, a pair psb ceiling speakers and 2 subs a mordant short and qacoustics. its well built with a metal casing and nice positive buttons, the remote lights up as soon as you touch it which is great in the middle of a film in a dark room. picture quality is perfect with its up scaling properties even dvds look good, you can even up scale your sky signal through it. I thought my system sounded good before I bought the 203 but wow. when I went in to buy it the boys at richer sounds where as excited as I was. great service as usual boys thank you

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Bly-Ray player with great attention to detail I bought the Oppo after extensive comparison with other players from Samsung, Panasonic and Sony. The combination of excellent build, sound and picture quality along with extensive connectivity (I have a complex AV setup) and well laid out backlit remote swung it for me. The lack of built in Netflix and other online services is not an issue for me, as they are all on my 4K TV.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent Universal Disc Spinner Am in the process of upgrading my AV equipment after 14 years of stability and the AV landscape has certainly changed and seems to be in a constant state of flux (new standards, formats, software etc). Have purchased an LG 65E6 OLED (replacing my fantastic old Pioneer plasma) and researched thoroughly before purchasing this Oppo player. A lot of feedback on forums with many software updates needed for this player to sort glitches but I needn't have worried, or at least I think all the glitches have been sorted out on mine which has been fed normal DVDs,SACDs,DVD-Audios,Blu-Rays and also 4k UHD BDs. All have played brilliantly. I must give a special mention to Blu-Ray 3Ds. These are simply unbelievable. Talk about an immersive technology. Beautifully made/heavy feeling, nice remote which has backlit buttons when it detects it is being touched. Also responsive and quiet in operation.Just waiting for the Dolby Vision update now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top of the range with a price to match Don't get me wrong this is well built, easy to use and oozes quality. It plays everything you throw at it and does it in a high quality way. I was happy to pay the price as it is a notch above the competitors but the competitors are dropping the price of their machine so you have to ask if the extra bit is worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Picture and updatable !!! Purchased this to go with my recent purchase of a (LG) OLED55E6V TV and have tried a couple of 4K Ultra HD BluRay films and I must say I was very impressed with the picture and sound quality. This player does not have ant apps built in like iPlayer or anything else but like mine most TVs have these built in so are not really required. What I like is the fact that firmware can be upgraded via the internet, so new features and codecs etc can be added.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for I have LG oled 65 B6 tv a Yamaha a3050 av processor and monitor audio silver speakers and wanted to get the best out of my investment. Most of the above from Richer Sounds in Edinburgh and Glasgow who have been great. I have Sky Q and Amazon fire TV and ultra HD has been good but limited to DD 5.1 or DD+. The other deciding factor was dolby vision support and the hdmi input. The oppo does eek out every ounce from the tv and AV processor and breathes life into old blue rays and SACD A test was Avatar streamed on 4K Amazon box compared to the oppo with just the Blu Ray. The oppos upscaled blu ray was slightly better picture and way better sound. It's likely streaming will be the future but to get the best possible sound and picture this is the way to go. Yes the oppo is expensive but when you open the box you know you have a bit of kit that bit better than the rest at the moment Should you buy? If you want best PQ and sound and love movies you'll love the oppo

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great 4K player My current oppo 103 stopped working. I was looking to upgrade to the 4K player but heard when it first launched it had a few bugs. Oppo have been active and quick to address them so i needed to replace the broken one (of which oppo said they will repair it for the cost of the part as it is out of warrenty which i think is excellent) I bought the oppo 203 & found it very easy to install and easy to set up. Make sure you go into the speaker setup & adjust the speakers as you will benefit from it. Overall i am inpressed with the player. The picture was fantastic with the 103, but the 203 has taked it to another level. I view it on a dedicated cinema with a 10ft screen & it feels like a window now. The clarity is unbeleivable & depth is almost 3D without the glasses :-) The sound seems to have iproved too which i play on a 7.2.4 atmos system. I think the price tag is a little on the high side concidering the panasonic, but i think it is worht the extra if you can afford it... It will be

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sales service was perfect from Plymouth but product a little underwhelming. Having wanted a 4K player since launch, I had taken a long time to decide on getting the Oppo. I bought it to replace a Panasonic DMP-BD75 which cost around £100 (ish) when new a few years ago. Naturally this is only my opinion but I can honestly say that I cannot tell the difference between playing a Blu-ray disc on the Panny compared to a 4K disc on the Oppo UDP203. Feel a little underwhelmed by it all tbh. I've tried a few 4K discs including Planet Earth II and it produces nothing that the Panny couldn't with regards to sound and vision. The Oppo is going through a Yamaha RXA-3050 as was the Panny. I'm not convinced enough to recommend this product to anybody desperate to jump into 4K from blu-ray at present and if you do, the cheaper Panasonic should suffice I would imagine: https://www.richersounds.com/product/blu-ray/panasonic/dmpub700/pana-dmpub700. Hope this gives an honest view in helping others in their quest for 4K.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive, but you get what you pay for This is the most expensive 4k Blu Ray player on the market, but for good reason - it is the best. Even the packaging is classy. Updated firmware via wifi easily and quickly, I've had no problems playing anything through this I have an LG OLED TV and HDR content is so vibrant without looking artificial, even "dark" films like Fantastic Beasts look luminous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning picture and gold standard build quality. I have always had Oppo blu ray players in my AV set up and the 203 is my third player from them. Decided to wait until now before I purchased the 203 as there have been some issues with playback of some 4k UHD discs reported from various users who purchased on release in December.. But with the recent firmware update on the 7th April I went ahead and purchased the 203 to go with my G6 OLED. And it has been a joy to use from day one. No hiccups or issues with an extensive run through of various 4k and 1080p discs. All played flawlessly and I am impressed as always with the superb build quality I have come to expect from Oppo. Amazing picture and sound as well as the superb ability for customisation in the set up menu's, to tailor it to your display. By far the leader in the market for high end machines. Expensive yes, but it is a step above the regular brands by some margin IMO..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from oppo udp 203 Decided to upgrade from the Samsung 4k blu ray player to the oppo ...and I'm really pleased with the results from the oppo , a much improved picture with greater detail and colours with 4 k discs but the greatest difference is with the upscaling of blu ray and DVD discs some excellent results so far, player is linked to a Samsung 78"9000 series so with the bigger screen the extra quality is welcome and looks stunning ...really pleased with purchase..not the cheapest but you get what you pay for , build quality is also fantastic

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent even without a 4K TV I don't own a 4K TV and have no real need of one at the moment because this OPPO player has given a new lease of life to my old DVD's, Blu-rays, FLAC files and CD collection. The picture quality is superb. The sound quality has highlighted sounds in movies and music that I hadn't actually heard before. If you have any 4K material this player will downscale it to the best quality levels of whatever output you have - allowing you to build up your 4K collection before making the leap to a UHD display. It's dear but if you can afford it buy it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great picture and Knock out sound Previous "Panasonic" Blu Ray packed in after many years of super sound and picture. It was a competition between the £450 new Panasonic and the £650 OPPO. After reading all the reviews of these two machines and advice of staff at Prestwich Store. and hearing Demo of OPPO in store I, chose the OPPO. When connected up with a new £139 HDMI cable the picture was great and the sound was "knock out". The Blu Ray "LIVE" CONCERT " of "SHAKIRA" in Paris was "Mind Blowing". I am extremely pleased with the OPP) Blu Ray machine

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A League apart! I saw this on a HDR UHD large screen TV before I purchased and compared with the Panasonic DMPUB 900 and Samsung UBDK 8500; no contest. I have it on a non-UHD B&O TV and the picture quality is still excellent, surprisingly better than through our Sky+HD Box! Easy to set up, bulid quality brilliant, good instructions- a proper job all round unlike flimsily built competitors which are admittedly cheaper. I hope it lasts for years, it certainly feels like it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb performance and quality build justifies cost This UHD 4K blu-ray player is an impressive piece of kit. From first opening the box, it is clear this a quality product. Directly connected to a LG OLED 55E6V TV (not using pass-thru AV receiver) and with the latest firmware update for the Oppo downloaded and installed (end January 2017) the picture displayed (and sound through AV receiver to speakers) when playing UHD blu-ray (Everest) or Blu-ray Disc is nothing short of spectacular. We found that the January firmware update did indeed sort the issues reported in previous negative reviews. The sound quality when playing music CDs is great too. Highly recommended. Both Oppo customer service and staff at Richer Sounds Edinburgh (particularly Garry and James) have been and conitinue to be exemplary.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worse player ever owned After waiting ages for Oppo to release a UHD player I was one of the first to purchase a unit in December. The trouble with this player is the lack of being able to play a UHD disc without some sort of problem be it a freeze of the film or audio dropouts. I have swapped out the unit for another player and still the same issues. I have also applied all firmware updates and spoke directly to James at Oppo UK about the issues. This player was released way to early and fails in it's simply tasks to play a UHD disc without issues. Alex at Hanley branch was very helpful in testing this machine in their own demo room on a few different amps to be met with the same issues. In 20 yrs of AV I have never encountered such a player with issues like this has. Ended up getting a full refund and will never buy Oppo again and it is nowhere near worth the massive price tag of £650. USELESS sums it up in one word.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant Player We purchased the Oppo from the Guildford store, from which I always receive great service and help (I have been a returning customer for many years now) We unpacked and installed the Oppo, using 2 good quality HDMI cables.. 1 direct to the TV for picture, and 1 to the amp for sound(My amp is 4K compatible, but using separate cables ensures the best quality picture and sound possible) Powered up and did a software update. Set picture and sound settings as per instructions, to the spec for the TV and amp.. We ran up a 4K disk and tweaked the contrast and brightness.. WOW, this player really delivers ! Picture and sound are, well, jaw dropping ! We tried standard blue ray - Brilliant We tried DVD - Also brilliant Better than the two previous up scaling players (they were award winners when purchased).. We tried CD ---- So good we stayed up most of the night listening to our favourite disks.. This player brings out the very best in out system. We are very happy :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from At last I have been waiting for a well built player for some time as most if not all are "plasticy" and a tad clunky when loading the disc. This is a well built player and I'm glad to say doesn't come loaded with useless apps like Netflix etc, after all these are on your 4K TV anyway. The audio quality blew me away, I'm playing through my Pioneer SC-LX83 so the dual HDMI outputs where very handy, I play my Apple TV through the HDMI in to upscale and I find this very good. Video as you would expect is terrific.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow, from opening the box to the end of the movie it's amazing worth every penny Yes it is expensive but let's be fair you are getting the best 4K player you can currently buy so when you think of it like that it's a bargain. As soon as you open the box you know you have something special, the player itself comes in a very nice bag for life and the remote and cables come in a lovely little oppo box (neither make it work better but really give you the elite club feeling!) When you finally stop looking at how good it looks and get it plugged in which is very easy you will be amazed, the picture is out of this world and so is the sound The remote is backlit so when you pick it up it lights up and you can see what the buttons do. It took me a while to work out what player I wanted and even with all its features I really wasn't sure if it would be worth the cost, but it is, It's worth every penny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OPPO UDP 203 Usual outstanding service from Richer sounds. Product arrived at the time stated was extremely well packed and arrived in perfect condition. Setup was extremely easy and the unit connected to my wi-fi with no problem. the quality is excellent massive improvement over my previous Sony blue ray player. I thought for a time about spending this amount of money on a 4k player, and can now say I am pleased I did. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Believe the reviews The Oppo UDP203 does everything it says in the reviews. Putting its 4K capabilities aside (as my 4k BluRay collection is a small number), it has enlivened my Bluray collection. Also my music collection (CDs, uncompressed FLAC & FLAC24Bit) has never sounded better. Very easy to set up (ensure you download all available firmware updates) and highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brill! I've had this player for a week now, It's hooked up to a LG 55HU850 display via a Denon AVR-X4300H, setup was straightforward including checking for firmware updates which installed easily. The first disk I tried was the blu-Ray of John Wick, imeadiatly the colours were so more defined and more natural compared to my old Panasonic player. The second disk was a UHD blu-Ray of the latest Star Trek flick (don't judge me!), as you would expect, visually stunningly and gave the Denon a good sonic workout! A few disks later, no picture judder, no wobbles, just beauttifull colour and detail, and, the draw mechanism is just so solid, it slides out with a reassuring sound I've not heard since my old Marants CD player and has none of the usual "wobble" you tend to get with most equipment these days. Commands were easy to download for my Harmony remote, reducing the need to use the supplied zapper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant BluRay player This is a brilliant bluray NOW. When I first used it the picture was very flat and colors to bright. I then went to the picture settings (after reading manual) adjusted them, and now the picture is amazing. 4k really stands out and HD discs are just as good. I am very pleased with this player. I would highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must be in top few UHD 4k players Purchased my unit from Middlesbrough store I could not believe my luck they had one in stock. The player replaced the oppo 103D and for sure is a really solid machine easy setting the unit up and the sound output is excellent The 203 can handle many formats granted it's not a smart player but it loads fast and the remote control lights are a real help. Yep I rate this highly

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressed as soon as I opened the box. Compared to other Blu-ray players I’ve had this one is miles in front. Nicely packaged with a quality printed manual and remote. Once connected up it did a firmware update and was ready to play a disc. It starts up very quickly once the power button is pressed and the transport is very quiet. It’s the most expensive Blu-ray player I’ve had yet due to its build, materials used and operation still seems to be good value when compared to other available units. Please note there is a good quality 1m HDMI v2.0 cable in the box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4K player made to last fine quality build with premium design The quality is fantastic and the packaging was premium.
Date published: 2017-02-03
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple to use with controls to adjust the picture to how you like it. With a bit of fine tuning the picture quality is excellent. The Blu Ray load times are good and so is the start up and shut down times. It supports new and old AV receivers, and if you are so inclined you may use the 7 channel audio out RCA connectors on the back to connect it to power amplifiers. However, I suspect most people will only connect it to their stereo amplifier or Hi-Fi system if they use the RCA connectors. Using this with a dedicated AV is almost a must at this price bracket. On the up side it has a coax digital out for connecting to a dedicated DAC, which I have used and it works well. On the down time it is expensive and doesn't support any smart apps like Netflicks or AmazonTv etc. It is extremely easy to use and has a dedicated button on the remote to switch off the TV when playing Music CD, which is a nice feature to avoid screen burn on Plasma or OLED TVs. The Oppo 203 is extremely easy to use, so easy my 5 year old uses much more than I do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Oppo 203 uhd From the moment you open the box you know you've purchased a quality product . I've always believed you pay for what you get hence I've always purchased the best I can afford and this product is right up there with my best ever purchases . 1st thing you notice is the sound is awesome through my onkyo 5009 receiver and the picture is more like looking through a window rather then watching a TV on my lg oled . Also build quality is superb only remote which is nicely backlit as you pick it up is just average , but this is nit picking as overall it's a excellent player of everything I've put through it so far . :)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wait before purchasing this product The product has great potential but has many issues as things stand today. it is likely that a firmware update may fix most or all of the existing problems which are listed below. 1. Noisy drive. 2. Picture stutter. 3. Audio drop-outs 4. Some features not working. Will consider returning this product if a manufacturer firmware update does not resolve the issues in the first week of January.
