"For the money, it's simply brilliant." 'Expert Reviews' Best projectors of 2017.

Class-first - DARBEE Visual Presence

For total and professional control of the picture, the HD28DSE is the first projector in its class equipped with DARBEE Visual Presence. It provides greater clarity and increases the perception of depth resulting in a more dynamic, lifelike experience.

Dynamic Black and Brilliant Colour
Thanks to Optoma's Dynamic Black system, the HD28DSE offers a superb contrast ratio of 30,000:1. By smoothly adjusting the lamp output based on the brightness information of each frame, the HD28DSE is simultaneously able to offer the darkest black levels alongside the brightest whites. Working alongside this is BrilliantColor. This processor uses six separate primary and secondary colours to produce a new level of colour performance.

Outstanding brightness
Boasting an outstanding brightness figure of 3000 ANSI Lumens, the HD28DSE not only offers bright and vivid colours but is also able to be used in many lighting conditions. Even during daylight conditions with curtains or blinds open, the HD28DSE can produce a watchable and detailed picture - something that can't always be said for some more expensive designs.

Pin sharp detail from Texas instrument's DLP chip
Using Texas Instrument's DLP technology, the Optoma HD28DSE gives crystal clear clarity, sharply defined images and true, natural colour. Even at larger screen sizes, the detail is astounding and would have once been the preserve of projectors costing many times more. In order to make the most of high definition video sources, the HD28DSE will also project 1080p Full HD images, making it the perfect match for your Blu-ray player or Full HD gaming device.

Optional 3D
Impressive as the Optoma HD28DSE is in 2D, it's only when you take advantage of the optional 3D system that the picture becomes truly immersive. Just add the optional ZF2100 3D glasses system, connect up to a suitable source and enjoy 3D images that are every bit as bold as at the cinema. Rather than using Infra-Red, the HD28DSE uses a Radio Frequency (RF) system. This not only reduces the chance of interference but also provides a higher contrast and brighter images. The optional glasses are also fully rechargeable.

HDMI with MHL
With twin HDMI sockets, the HD28DSE is well equipped to handle your digital sources. The HDMI interface is also compatible with MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link). This lets you connect up a suitable smartphone or tablet to the HDMI socket and watch HD video, at up to 1080p Full HD, from your mobile device, on the big screen!

A superb value projector that's made even better by Darbee, the Optoma HD28DSE raises the class standard.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good...with a couple of flaws. Bought this after owning an HD20 for years. Finally gave up the ghost and I wanted something brighter as the room my projector sits in is quite bright. This totally out shines the HD20, on a bright day you hardly notice any fading of the picture with it being only on eco setting. The picture quality is superb, I haven't really played around with all the settings fully yet but just a quick tune has given me great results. One issue however is the focus. Don't know why but every now and again it seems to shift out. I have to manually adjust it on the projector itself. Seems as if the focus dial is slowly moving over time. It's not that much of a bigee, I'm talking every few days or so. Probably just a minor fault with mine but I can live with it. The other one is the fan noise. I read about this plenty before buying this model and I knew I was taking a risk. On eco mode it's more than acceptable and quieter than my old model. It tends to "rev" up every now and again though. It didn't for the first few weeks but it has only started recently. It's a constant pattern....normal fan noise....rev....normal....rev....if you get my drift. It's as if it's blowing the lamp every now and again to cool it down. If it just went slightly louder and was constant then that would be fine but the constant up and down can be quite noticeable and off putting. We play games on it though so it's not too bad but if I was engrossed in a movie I can see it being annoying. Maybe it's just a fault with mine though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Needs careful set up Out of the box, the projector is loud and the picture over blown and noisy but, with work on the settings, it can produce very good results. To solve the fan noise, turn lamp to eco and turn off the dark setting. To get a better picture turn the darbee processor setting to hi-def and no more than 50% and set picture to cinema or reference and cool colour temperature. With a good source it then gives pictures very much better than its price point, with great definition on HD and also great 3D (with the reasonably-priced optional specs)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not so great.. Nothing special about this projector, I can't see any difference between this one and a 3 years old Epson. Like other reviewers mentioned, it is noisy. This is probably due to the poor quality fan and if it wasn't for the manufacturer's warranty and the extended Richer Sound warranty, I'd open it to see if I can change that fan... No point having 3000 ANSI lumens if you can't use it in the daylight because of the fan noise and this with the lamp set on Eco. If I set it on normal, it sounds like a blender. I appreciate the fact that all projectors are noisy but this one is probably one of the noisiest out there. Another thing is that I managed to set it to be turned On automatically by the Blu-Ray player but it doesn't turn Off automatically. Not a big deal, but what's the point having this setting if it doesn't work? On the other hand, the RS guys in telesales were great, especially John.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fan noise Ruins it Having owned a Optoma before this and had trouble free and excellent viewing for 5 years, i decided to go again for an optoma. Mistake. The Picture out of the box is poor compared to my old 720 optoma but the biggest problem is the FAN NOISE All projectors have fan noise, but as soon as you put the central heating on, the fan cranks up and is VERY very loud, i never noticed the fan on my other projector tbh but on this its too much.....

Rated 2 out of 5 by from very bad fan noise Put this on my ceiling mid June when I started using it the fan noise was very loud 59 decibels the only way to make it quite was to put in reference mode which is a very poor picture to watch in vivid cinema or bright modes you would need ear plugs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Optoma HD28DSE Brilliant far better than a flat screen telly, like being at the cinema. The picture is so much more real than a TV. Save money buy a projector

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You will not be let down. Owned this projector for 6 months now. After researching & reviewing many projectors before I made a purchase. I feel I made he perfect choice. A lot of reviews are a bi misleading. -tHe fan is not loud & unnoticed whilst in use. All projectors are going to make noise & generate heat... -Image quality is amazing! Never gets old, after a few days of not using the projector and coming back to it it still gives the wow factor. -blue ray DVDs are stunning but Netflix playing FIFA still looks amazing. I paid £700 & is now £600 so definitely worth the money. The projector sometimes sounds like it is struggling on cinema mode, but not much a problem. I bought a 92" sapphire screen with this projector which I would recommend, I noticed the difference between the wall & the screen... Richer sounds also gave me a £50 HD lead for free which I also recccomend investing in to get the most out of the projector. An obviously buy a decent set of speakers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great picture quality - nice looking unit Really happy with this purchase. My choice was somewhat constrained, ie. needed to be a white unit as it will remain on view, and I ended up paying a little bit more than I hoped. I would say however that the features and picture quality of the HD28 justify the cost, for what on paper may sound like only marginally better than an entry level HD projector. The side entry connections are a real bonus for my installation situation. One minor criticism; surely wouldn't be too much to ask to supply a white device with a white mains lead rather than black. Easily rectified with a few quid spent at the local electrical outlet. Richer Sounds service as always A1, many thanks.
