”Optoma hasn't just sliced the price of 4K projection, it's made 3D cool again.”– ‘Home Cinema Choice’ – 5/5 Best Buy review. Tested at £1400

Stunning UHD 4K resolution – on the big screen

With over eight million pixels, Ultra HD 4K resolution brings four times more detail than Full HD, delivering sharper, life-like images and richer colours. A further advantage of UHD 4K resolution is that, because the pixels are smaller, you can sit much closer to the screen. This makes this projector ideal for rooms that previously might have been too small for a projector to work at its best.

HDR makes the best even better
Compatible with HDR video, the UHD51 takes UHD 4K to the next level. HDR enhances the brightest and darkest sections of scenes – letting you see detail in what was previously a solid block of colour. It also makes the rest of the colour spectrum appear more natural, giving an even greater sense of ‘being there’.

Colour – just as it should be with CMS
Display accurate, life-like colours to best match your viewing environment with Colour Management System (CMS). This unique feature provides you with the flexibility to fine-tune the colour settings to the Rec. 709 standard for optimal precision.

PureMotion for judder-free images
Not content with exceptional realism, brightness and detail, the Optoma UHD51 also offers super-smooth motion control. Using sophisticated frame-interpolation technology, PureMotion processing eliminates motion blur or image judder. This is especially noticeable when watching fast-moving sports events and action movies - just the sort of occasions when you'll be watching on the big screen.

Optional 3D
Impressive as the UHD51 is in 2D, the image becomes even more immersive when you switch to 3D. Just add the optional ZD302 3D glasses, connect up to a suitable source and enjoy 3D images that are every bit as bold as at the cinema.

Make installation easier with Vertical lens shift
Vertical lens shift lets you adjust the physical direction of the lens across a + 10% vertical plane. This adjustment makes installation much easier as, once installed, you’re able to adjust the image to precisely fit your screen – without the need for any image-compromising digital adjustment.

A wide range of connections, including two HDMI sockets
Featuring twin HDMI sockets (one compatible with HDR), you can connect a UHD Blu-ray player and video streamer. For older sources, the UHD51 also comes with a VGA input – perfect for laptops and PCs. Multi-room connectivity is enhanced by RJ-45 and RS232 interfaces, plus there’s a 12v output for syncing with an electric screen. Audio can be outputted via digital optical or analogue 3.5mm sockets.

Power your smart TV device by USB
Another great feature is the handy USB power output. This is used to power USB-powered smart devices, such as the Google’s Chromecast or a Roku TV stick. Plug Chromecast, or similar, in and you’ll have easy access to smart video and TV services without the need for any other device or lengthy connection cables.

See more and enjoy more, with the totally immersive Optoma UHD51.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Optoma UHD51 Had done quite a lot of research on 4k projectors vs budget before choosing this one from Richer Sounds - together with discount and an additional £50 promotion it was a no brainer. I purchased late Friday afternoon and was promised delivery on the Monday ..... imagine my surprise when the courier arrived the very next day - absolute brilliant. Projector does need to be calibrated to get the best out of it as it is always a balancing act between 4k vs HDR vs room darkness. I have a dedicated home cinema room with very little light creep but selecting movie mode (according to a review site) is still more than passable. First test disk had to be Blue Planet, oh my word what a difference from my previous Benq W1400, I actually needed to put my glasses on to take in all the extra detail. Colours were rich and contrast was very good. Only played the disk for 5 minutes as I wanted to christen the projector with my all time favourite. So, one day later, Amazon Grime delivered a 4k version of the original Blade Runner, I wondered how the HDR would cope. In a word, I was amazed, so much more shadow detail was being revealed, extremely happy with this projector. There are a few settings that will need to be changed, the HDR while capable was a little grainy in places but I have found a cure for that from one of the review sites and I need to turn Dynamic black on and Pure motion off. Plenty of time for the optimum tune :) All in all, this was a great choice of projector for the money and I am extremely happy indeed - the salesman's suggestion of a Sony 4k bluray player instead of the Panasonic was also spot on - the remote also controls my Sony AVR too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outside Cinema I bought the projector so we could organise an 'outdoor cinema', so we could be socially distanced but still have a bit of fun, with a select few. The Optima UHD51 perfomed excellently. The coulours and images where clear and just like looking at a TV screen, only much bigger, the projector will project screen size of just over 300", we had the projector set for a 123" display.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4K Optoma UHD51 I upgraded from an Optoma GT1080 which i mainly used from movies,Netflix,Sports against a 120inch Elite screen and it was definitely worth the upgrade to 4K. I set up on the ceiling and was fairly easy to get all for corners aligned with the zoom and lens shift functions. One thing i wanted was two 4K HDMI connections which this UHD51 projector provides. I have one going to a 4K player and the other to the apple 4K TV box. Despite reviews i have seen it does notify you of a connecting source which you can select to go to. 4K discs such as planet earth our out of this world. It’s like a 120inch 4K television. At times i think it is better than my 65in 4K TV for seeing detail. You can play Blu-ray as well that upscale to 4K which i have loved so far. Apple 4K TV with all my itunes movies has been brilliant. I set the display to 4K HDR (make sure the HDR is on-on the projector setting or it will be dull) then i personally select to match content and frame rate. Out of the box settings for me i have been very impressed with any only made a few tweaks but film in generally is good for me. I have also thought the HDR SIM with some Blu-rays has been very good. After a week i changed the sound from 3.5 to and optical 5m lead to my Sony surround sound. It’s a bit old now but the sound is still good..Something to upgrade in the future! The remote is backlit and i have found the menu really easy to use. Downside was printing my manual as i like a manual in my hand but easy to find on Optoma / richer sounds website. In day light the project has performed well but i mainly use in the evenings. The projector is fairly close above us but haven’t had a noise issue. I am please i picked this projector, the colours are out of this world and the dynamic black is much better then my previous one. Projectors are expensive but if you can get a 120in screen in your house i think it is really worth it :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Performer!!! After a lot of review reading I opted for the Optoma UHD51. I was replacing a projector bought back in 2005 which at the time set me back near on £4000. On initial set up I didn’t have the previous luxury’s of motorised zoom, focus and lens shift but with the UHD51 sat in front of me on our coffee table it was so easy to make the adjustments. Once powered up I was wowed by the colours and imagery. There were some glitches with movement which was easily rectified by using the pure motion settings and any other issues were really down to the settings of my DVD player. I’ve now also purchased a streaming stick and optical lead linked to my amp and the options for entertainment are now endless (I feel this set up also gives the best visionary results). The UHD51 has surpassed all that I was expecting in a projector. The images, colours, motion, ease of menu, connections and even an illuminated remote makes this a dream projector ( It’s also inaudible whilst watching movies and that’s with it sat in front of me). Truly a fantastic purchase. Many thanks Cibo at Richer Sounds Cambridge for your help and excellent advice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An amazing projector with limitation Whilst slightly limited on placement and a new screen needed for throw distance i love this. We had to move our room around and place it low due to lack of ceiling in a conservatory. That said such a pure picture amazing 3d 4k it wins. However there is no keystone whatsoever on this so if you cannot tabletop or put on a ceiling avoid it. We had 92 inch screen 5 metre throw and still overhang on screen so had to get bigger one. All said done love it but approach understanding what I have said

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible image, but lacks features and fiddly UI Had this for a few weeks now and am really impressed with the image quality I got out of it (2 metres wide projected on a regular wall). The only faults I have with it are: 1. No keystone correction, which limits projector positioning possibilities somewhat. 2. UI can be a real faff and is not well documented. I spent some time googling how to get 3D working (menu was constantly disabled) and it turned out you have to disable HDR, change HDMI EDID to 1.2 on an obscure sub-sub-menu and only then does the 3D menu unlock. You’ll also then need to crank up the brightness. Sadly it doesn’t appear you can save config settings so you’ll need to undo all this to go back to 2D and redo it all again when you want 3D again and so on... 3. Not a massive amount you can adjust in terms of manual zoom or lens shift (vertical only). You’re largely controlling this through the physical position of the projector and the manual controls just refine it slightly. 4. Obviously, the internal speaker is a bit tinny but anybody buying this for a great 4K image is not going to cheap out on a surround sound speaker set up also. Basically, if you’re not going to be switching between 2D and 3D films regularly, once the projector is set up it looks astonishing in both 2K and 4K.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Seems good once it's working, but with flaws Replaced my trusty Optoma HD51 which died, with this Optoma 4K projector. I don't actually have any 4K films to watch, but my Blu-Ray films look way better anyway. It's a little quieter than my HD51, and quite noticeably brighter. I found it fairly easy to locate, because of the level of zoom adjustment available, which is pretty big. But there was something wrong with the HDMI settings initially as everything was pink... getting that sorted took, ages, and I still don't know what I did to correct it... but it seems like the projector struggles with older HDMI player versions, but there is not a lot of help to be found in the out of date manual. Colour, brightness, and contrast out of the box was pants, really way off! That took a lot of time to correct to something usable, god knows how you would do that if you didn't have any experience with calibrating colour/brightness/contrast. The manual is completely out of date. All settings are not available for some reason, unless you are playing a film when you do this, and some settings were still greyed out and not changeable for certain discs?? It doesn't have an RF socket for my existing RF emitter, and RF 3D glasses, so I had to buy new DLP link glasses, not Optoma branded, because I couldn't find anywhere that sold Optoma glasses. But upon testing, I found my 3D films unwatchable, really uncomfortable to watch, I had to take glasses off after 10 minutes because either my eyes (or my brain) was feeling really strained. When I took them off I felt cross eyed. I don't know why this is, but it's really disappointing to not be able to watch my 3D film collection. Overall its a good 2D projector once you've spent the time muddling through calibrating it's picture settings, and HDMI version settings using the out of date, inaccurate manual. 3D is dodgy with my DLP link glasses. Cheapish price for 4K. Easy to locate because of the zoom. Would I buy again... possibly not... the lack of watchable 3D is a major issue for me... :-( Although it seems that Optoma is doing the bare minimum to support 3D... and it seems to be dying out in the film industry, would any of the other projectors support 3D any better, not sure? Good job my 3D films all came with a 2D Blu-Ray disc.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great in store, terrible out I bought an Optoma51a with a screen, but had to wait for the screen to be delivered. I had to ring up several times to get any information as to when the delivery would take place. Furthermore, the delivery time got delayed twice, meaning I had to book further days off work - not impressed with the lack of communication

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use and stunning visuals Brought the optima 4k uhd51 after reading several reviews online . This projector does not disappoint its visually stunning for the price and there are many options for the display. It automatically switches to perform the best with whatever signal comes to it .I've now purchased a xbox one s as it has a 4k player installed and have upgraded to Netflix 4k too Some reviews mentioned the running noise but I haven't found that to be an issue, it has an eco mode that makes a difference to the running noise if it was to loud for your watching experience. Use a good hdmi cable with no splitter box and you wont have any flicker issues. 10/10 Staff at richer sounds are extremely helpful to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upgraded from HD to 4k.. I made the right choice After choosing an Optoma projector earlier in the year, and only picking up an HD Darbee unit, i was kicking myself. I decided to sell the HD, and go for a 4K. The UHD51 unit is great. The OS (operating system) is much more user friendly. Lots of options. There is no keystone adjustment, as this apparently muddles the output. To make up for this, I just manually adjusted the position on the bracket, and the lens shift is a fantastic feature. Now, at 4m away, I am projecting on a 110" screen, with optimal clarity. Using the XBOX ONE X, the output is 4k, and picked up correctly. Fan noise is really quiet, the unit is extremely well built. Thanks for the advice Sean :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4K is ment for large screens Even though it is not true 4k you would have to have amazing vision to tell the difference. The picture is very vivid and full on a large screen well worth the upgrade from a 1080p projector plus if your into 3D it improves the quality of that format which supprised me. If its still this good in two years without issues I'll take it to 5 stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but not Great I've had this projector for over two months. Out of the box the picture presets needed significant adjustment to get best results and be aware that the manual focus ring has to be adjusted very carefully to get the sharpest picture. Positives, very crisp 4K picture with HDR and standard 4K displaying excellently. In normal use the picture brightness is good and mostly the upscaling of full HD sources is excellent. Superb 3D. Negatives, very noisy when not in Eco mode with Dynamic Black disabled. 1080i sources (sky box) suffer 'jelly' shakes when shots show moving verticle edges. This is made worse when the motion smoothing is activated but disappear immediately if you upscale to 1080p before the signal enters the projector. Rainbow effects are (to me at least) very apparent on bright objects on dark background, so check this if possible before purchase. Compared to my old 2K projector black levels aren't great. For some reason film grain on 2k sources is exaggerated, sometimes massively as if sharpness is turned full up. The projector is much better on digitally sourced material.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Projector I have had this projector for a few weeks now, and I can say I am extremely happy. I have had a Benq projector before which was very noisy, this projector is very quiet, you can hardly here the fan blowing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Black levels not very deep I bought this to replace my old 1080p Panasonic projector and while the detail is superb there is a rather limited black level that even after calibration wasn't as deep as I expected. The brightness is good for a projector and that is the best to be expected from a HDR projector as none can truly show the full HDR spectrum (well, none in my price range) and I'm having issues with the odd flicker that could be cable related or a fault on the projector but still experimenting with settings and cables

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional value for money This is my 5th projector over the last 15 years. This projector has required very little in the way of adjustments to get a good picture out of it. Being a 4k projector the clarity of the picture is excellent but what has surprised me the most are the rich and deep colours, particularly with HDR video.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Camera Club We recently purchased the UHD51 to replace an ageing Canon projector that we use to display photographs at our camera club. We wanted the higher resolution of the UHD51 so we could enjoy the quality available from today's' digital cameras. The projector is excellent in this role and the colour quality out of the box is very good. The light output is also plenty for use in our hall that seats up to 100 people. Richer Sounds were great and organised a demo so that a few committee members could try it out before we went ahead. Richer Sounds also honoured their commitment to give us a partial refund if the projector price reduced during Black Friday - that gave us a further £140 off what was already a good price!

Goes to show you don't have to spend thousands to get a professional result!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Precision for a great price I've been in the field of av production for years. Bought anOptoma HD back in 2006. So good I didn't want to upgrade.. until the UHD51 from Optoma. My budget wasn't huge so I had to be careful. The specs of this unit don't actually tell you the real story. Get a jaw-dropping demo from Richer Sounds. A really great projector that does far more than it says on the box!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbelievable for the Money Can’t believe how good this projector is for the money. Just have it displayed on to a white painted wall at the moment and the quality of picture is superb. Like with most projectors, I’d recommend not relying on the units speakers.
