4K UHD upscaling and 4K JPEG playback
With 4K UHD upscaling on both Blu-ray and hard drive, the DMR-PWT550EB makes the ideal partner for your 4K TV. Although not as good as native 4K, upscaling from Full HD gives superior detail and realism. Taking this even further, this Panasonic Blu-ray combi also offers 4K JPEG playback, giving you the ability to see your photos on the big screen in the highest quality possible.
3D playback including 2D to 3D conversion
As you'd expect from Panasonic, the DMRPWT550EB offers a detailed and natural picture quality. 3D compatibility lets you view 3D Blu-rays on your 3D TV, plus there's 2D-3D conversion. 2D-3D conversion allows you to watch any 2D material up-converted to glorious 3D.
New Freeview Play for easy access to catch up TV
Freeview Play combines catch-up TV, on-demand services and live television to make watching what you want, when you want as easy as possible. The service is free from subscription and compatible with existing broadband services. Services such as the BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5 are available without having to open specific applications, giving effortless scroll-back TV (requires broadband Internet connection with a minimum speed of 2Mbps).
UHD 4K video playback and archiving
With the ability to record 4K content (MP4) and playback 4K video recorded to USB, the DMRPWT550 makes the ideal companion for your 4K TV. If you've signed up to Netflix, you'll also be able to enjoy 4K playback via the built-in app.
Record up to 500GB of TV programmes in HD
Twin HD tuners mean that you can not only pause and rewind live TV but also record two different channels at the same time. What's more, with a 500GB built-in hard drive you can record up to 258 hours of programmes in SD or 129 hours of HD TV. In the unlikely event that you should run out of space then a separate USB-equipped hard drive can be connected up by USB and data transferred from one to the other.
Smart Networking
Connect to your home network via the built-in Wi-Fi or Ethernet and you can enjoy a wide range of Smart networking options. Choose from a wide selection of apps or use the web browser for easy access to the Internet. With DLNA compatibility you can also stream content from other devices on your network - perfect for accessing the videos you may have stored on your computer.
Remote Recording and viewing
Take control of recording, even when you're hundreds of miles from home with Remote Recording. Provided your device is connected to Broadband Internet, you'll be able to set recording functions remotely via your Smartphone or tablet. With Panasonic's TV Anywhere you can also stream recordings and live TV directly to your Smartphone or tablet (excludes BBC content). Now there's no excuse on missing out on your favourite programme!
Playback, record, stream and catch-up - it's all possible on the multi-tasking Panasonic DMRPWT550EB.

Great TV Box and player
Really pleased with this unit. I read a lot reviews but for the money I think it’s awesome. Yes the graphics are a little dated but it works brilliantly and I love being able to setup timer recordings from my phone. Blue ray player is great and setup was a breeze with the built in software guide. Should have bought it sooner.

Recommend This Product
This is my second Panasonic hard drive recorder. The old one is still going strong. This new purchase is an upgrade as I can play CDs and DVDs on it along with the Freeview Play facility. I am very impressed with it. Easy to setup and good quality for a good price. Well done Panasonic.

Good recorder
Used for recording tv programmes to view later. Occasional DVD viewing. Disappointed that this will now not allow recording from hard drive to blank DVD as my previous Panasonic model did. Why not? Will only record to external hard drive (more expense). Hoping to burn from external to a blank DVD on PC. First shot at recording to external did not work.

Easy set-up. It works.
This was a like-for-like replacement for a failing 12-year old device. It's exactly what we wanted and, now that technology has moved on, has extra features which are useful (e.g. recording two programmes simultaneously). We needed something to play DVDs, gave us Freeview and records from the TV. Not easy to come by these days!

Good but not great
Easy to set up, well spec'd easy on the eye but terribly slow on the TV guide which is by far the worst thing. My old DMR-BWT700 has a lightning fast TV guide far superior and why no mut button on the remote?

I would buy this product again
I bought this to replace a very old failing Panasonic DVD recorder. I chose it because I was familiar with how my old one worked and how it linked to my Panasonic TV. An added attraction was that its Wi Fi link enabled me to use IPlayer and catch up on my TV. The new Programme check/Video menu dialogue boxes look and work slightly differently, and took a little while to get used to but are still easy to use. I can't think of anything to improve.

I would buy this product again and recommend it.
I mainly use this product to record and watch TV programmes, to watch catch up TV, to watch Netflix and to watch DVDs. This is an excellent product and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. When setting it up ensure you have your passwords available to insert when prompted. It was easy to set up and I was pleasantly surprised by this because I am not very Tech savvy!

Nice but missing some basics
A good system in general. Panasonic have had problems with updating apps like iPlayer etc. Also the EPG is a bit behind most producers of TV or entertainment products. A problem on the EPG as always and still is the ability to schedule a program as a simple reminder. Connectivity is slow to navigate between pages and does not have a proper function to scroll by page effectively. A good productllet down by simple software changes

Perfect item for me
I contacted my local Richer Sounds for guidance as I was replacing a Dvd Player /recorder which was around fifteen years old. The staff member could not have been more helpful guiding me to the purchase I made. So far so good I am very satisfied.

Good but needs some improvements
Overall good. issues:- You can only record two programmes simultaneously - My Panasonic TV auto recognises the DVD but not the Freeview TV function - You cannot use the up/down buttons to toggle between AV input or DVD/TV but must press the AV or Drive Select button multiply times.

DMR-PWT550EB DO NOT BUY THIS PANASONIC VIDEO RECORDER
Sometimes records, sometimes does not, terrible settings, just cannot find anything good to say about it. I contacted Panasonic, basically they were not interested in the problems experienced.

A versatile recorder that turns a TV into a smart TV as well
I didn't find the manual comprehensive or easy to follow, but for the most part it was easy to set up and now that I have learned my way around (a long, painful process) it is easy to use. My wife has yet to master more than the basics. I particularly like the way recordings of series are condensed into one entry that can be expanded, and the facility to view programmes via BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, Netflix etc. Copying a programme recording onto a USB device turned out to be too laborious, compared with copying to a PC via the home wifi, though that was hard to set up with poor instructions. There is no facility to copy a programme to DVD. The hard disk seems a bit small for the money. Displaying photos stored on my phone proved hopelessly complicated: it is easier to plug in my Google Home device and use that.

The program guide is very slow to scroll and update. In addition this unit does not auto detect as many channels as my previous Panasonic Blu-ray even though both are using the same antenna.

Overall worth considering
Good overall with good quality picture, lots of capacity, easy integration with panasonic tv, plays from last stopped. Would be better with dvd recorder to allow favourites to be saved and recordings listed from oldest.

It's OK.
Used mainly to record TV programs. The sound is quiet and needs to be turned up quite high. The manual is fairly useless. To find how to use some features I had to resort to their support.
