Richer Sounds exclusive model.

A compact unit that full of features and powerful, too. The Pioneer XCHM86D is serious about sound from all sources.

Tuned for superior sound

Tuned during numerous listening sessions, the XC-HM86D uses specially selected audio components. These provide the highest levels of clarity and greatest detail at the price. Pioneer has also designed the circuit board for the lowest levels of noise and distortion. Short signal paths and separate grounding of analogue and digital signals gives a pure sound in which you can hear every detail.

Power to spare
This Pioneer system isn't just about sound quality, it's about power, too. A powerful 65 watt amplifier offers class-leading bass and dynamics. Combine the system with the right choice of speakers and you'll easily be able to fill all but the largest of rooms. If you fancy even more bass, there's a subwoofer output that's ready for your choice of active sub.

High resolution sound
Thanks to High Resolution audio support you can make the most of the impressive amplifier. Compatible high-resolution source formats include DSD (up to 11.2 MHz) along with FLAC/AIFF (192kHz/24 bit) and Apple Lossless. Connect via USB or to your network (wired connection preferably) and you can finally enjoy those high resolution music files exactly how they were meant to be heard.

Google Cast for seamless streaming
New to this Pioneer streamer is Google Cast. Using the same technology behind Google's Chromecast, you can use your mobile device to cast your favourite music, radio, or podcasts to your speakers. You can control the audio from anywhere in your home using Cast-enabled apps running on your personal device, be it iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet, Mac or Windows laptop, or Chromebook.

Wi-Fi with Spotify and AirPlay
Connect via Ethernet or wi-fi to your home network and gain access to a whole new world of entertainment. From here you'll be able to access a massive range of Internet radio stations plus music services such as the hugely popular Spotify, Deezer and HiRes Tidal. There's also AirPlay, making it easier than ever to stream from your Apple iOS devices, too.

Bluetooth connectivity
For a quick and easy connection with your smartphone or tablet you can take advantage of the Pioneer's built-in Bluetooth receiver. Unlike Wi-Fi, the Bluetooth connection pairs directly with your device, regardless of your Internet connections status. With the possibility of streaming music services, such as Spotify, Deezer and Tidal, as well as your own music library, you get access to near unlimited music.

DAB radio and CD
The Pioneer XC-HM86D hasn't forgotten about more traditional sources; it still comes with a built-in DAB/FM radio and CD player. Featuring DAB+, DAB and FM, the tuner has many radio eventualities covered both for the present and, because of DAB+, for the future, too.

Twin USB sockets, optical and AUX input
Thanks to USB sockets on both front and rear, it's easy to connect up your USB music stick for quick and easy playback at the highest quality (including Hi Res). If you fancy connecting up your TV you can do that through the optical digital or phono inputs. Alternatively, join the vinyl revolution by adding a pre-amp equipped turntable through the Line input.

For power and ultimate music accessibility within a small package, the Pioneer XCHM81 has got it together.

Don't forget to add speakers, as they're not included with this system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A quirk or two, but fantastic I bought this Pioneer as a replacement for my ageing Onkyo network receiver. Initial impressions were great, the unit is solidly built, and setting up was a breeze. On initial startup it received a number of firmware updates (the last dated October 2018: Pioneer very generously outlines what is fixed, features added etc for each update on their website). The Positives Chromecast built in is absolutely brilliant - personally I would not consider any unit which does not feature it. Casting audio (podcasts, Google Play music etc) from my phone or laptop works a treat Having a proper volume dial, (so much nicer than up/down buttons) Android app is reasonably well designed and works Minor negatives Only 1 optical and 1 line-in, honestly another line in would have been nice for that extra flexibility. As other reviewers have mentioned, no presets for DAB radio is a bit peculiar and annoying Unnecessarily limited use of screen when listening to DAB (something which could be addressed with firmware.?) This is possibly common to similar units with Bluetooth, but it is input only, so you can’t listen to the unit with Bluetooth headphones- which to me defeats the purpose of having Bluetooth - as why would i use it to send audio if i can use Chromecast from my phone to do that… but perhaps i’m missing the point In response to another review - If you enable network standby you can use the Android app to switch the unit on and off, if you don’t enable network standby, you can only use the app to switch it off. Alternatively the remote does everything But most importantly, does it deliver on sound, in short, absolutely… My experience is limited to budget and experience, I can only compare it to my previous Onkyo network receiver and my Dali Zensor 1’s. The sound is very much on par, it extracts all the musical information that i know and love, Differences? to my ears it is a touch colder and more analytical, and the bass is a little bit more pronounced. Perhaps it is extracting a little bit more information than what I know? Listening to vinyl i find it emphasises scratches and crackles a little bit more, and some of the warmth of vinyl is lost. For electronic music this works fabulously, with acoustic and more intimate music I find you lose a bit of the melting warmth of vinyl, Is it a deal breaker? absolutely not, just an observation. Perhaps it needs another (firmware) spit and polish to refine some quirks, but fundamentally a fantastic unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Customer Service I had a faulty Pioneer unit with the warranty period expired 9 month ago. Richer Sound promised to exchange the unit but hadn't any units in stock but were expecting deliveries within 2 weeks. So they promised to ring back within the same time and arrange for a new unit to be sent out - which they did. Richer Sound exchanged the unit without problems at no extra costs. The new unit arrived the same time the faulty unit was collected. Excellent service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great well priced unit I bought this as a replacement unit for the living room. It had Internet radio which the older unit did not have. Having seen how some units fightback when trying to connect to WiFi, I was surprised how easy this unit was to set up and in the process update it's firmware.... If only all units were this easy. The sound is punchy and the bass is not forced. In short, Very pleased with the way it worked out-the-box There is an Android APP which you can use as a remote control and mostly is very good and easy to use. Two points that I would like Pioneer to address are:- 1) Tune-In, please, please add the ability to type in the station name you want to find, and not just brows through 1000's of station names till you find the station you want. 2) While you can turn on the unit via the APP, you can't turn the unit off.....Not a great problem, but would be a handy fuction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Multi talented and very good sound Having decided to ditch my hifi separates, much of which is around 30 years old (and has about 100 miles of cable!!), I bought the Pioneer XCHM86D along with a pair of Dali Zensor 3's a few weeks ago. Still early days in using this kit, but so far very impressed. The Pioneer does so much and the sound is very good, easily powerful enough to drive the Dali's. Decided to go for wired connection rather than Wi-Fi but set up was straight forward and a firmware update didn't take too long either. I'm mainly listening to my music collection via Google Play Music cast to the Pioneer as well as CD's and TuneIn radio. The Pioneer android app is OK too, perhaps not quite as fluid and elegant as I'd like, but does the trick. Big thanks to Roger at Richer Sounds in Norwich who sorted out a demo (tried several different speakers but settled on the Dali's, which are excellent) and advised on cabling etc. No hard sell, just good honest advice and very helpful. Thank you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from All the features I wanted, good for the price I believe this is one of the only streaming devices with an integral CD player which was a key reason for buying. It's a quality looking piece of kit, nicely designed. The only criticism I have is that you cannot preset any DAB radio stations. Also, the display is very small when scrolling through stations. That said, it does everything I need bought at a reasonable price but we did buy it in the sale.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great features. Average sound. I must admit that in the back of my mind I thought "is it possible to get all these features AND decent sound quality at a fairly reasonable price?" Well the answer is definately NO!. I was spurred on by the large number of reviews claiming "great sound" but unfortunately its not what I would call Hi FI. My past systems have been centred around modestly priced seperates by Denon and Marantz and the difference is huge. I can only imagine the reviewers who consider the Pioneer reciever is a piece of quality equipment were brought up listening to music on lap tops and phones. As others have commented, some of the functionality is very odd too, No DAB presets and the station displayed 6mm high on a 60mm tall display. So if your using the remote to scroll stations, you have to stand right next to the unit???? We're the entire team responsible for usability killed in a plane crash? It's genuinely hard to find anything good to say about the sound quality apart from the fact that there is very little noise. Don't take my word for it though, do what I should have and go and listen to it before buying.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Features! I bought this product on recommendation from the helpful staff at the Norwich store and so far it has exceeded expectations. I needed it mainly for the USB ports and the sound that it delivers is phenomenal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Little guy BIG sound Have had this for a few months now and this little guy punches well, well above its weight. I actually have this connected to Wharfedale Diamond 230's + Sub and it manages to drive them with ease. Not so micro after all. No issues with sound. Pioneer have published a few firmware updates for this, which are simply downloaded and applied via its wifi connection. I note a few people criticising the screen. Yes its a simple LCD, but for me its perfectly functional and that's all I really look for on hifi. Latter firmware(s) have certainly improved performance and DAB reception. I took a deep breath moving to this from separates, but honestly haven't looked back. Simple, minimal cabling. All streaming works well, CD's sound great and the Power Bass feature generates an astonishing punchy night club experience with my Wharfedale Sub. No complaints, for the money its a superb Pioneer product.
