The Classic made better
A Classic by name and nature, Project’s award-winning turntable is now better than ever. With an improved speed control, updated drive system and enhanced tonearm and cartridge, every major component has been evolved with The Classic Evo.
Innovative design for superb isolation
With two plinths as standard, the motor sits isolated from the tonearm and bearing. This separates the sensitive tonearm and bearing mounts from potential vibration issues caused by the motor. The two plinths are further isolated by the use of TPE (Thermo-Plastic Elastomers) between them.
Improved platter
Already featuring impressive TPE lining to prevent the platter from ‘ringing’, a new design of sub-plater gives reduced noise and lower distortion. The diamond-cut, aluminium sub-platter fits the other components with an improved tolerance, helping reduce the chance of noise from the bearing affecting the sound quality.
Inbuilt speed control
Electronic speed control offers perfect speed stability for a precise, solid sound. Electronic control offers easy switching between 33 and 45 speeds. The included additional drive belt also allows for 78-rpm playback, when placed around the larger rung of the pulley (dedicated 78 cartridge recommended for playback).
Class-leading tonearm design
Developing their famous carbon fibre tonearm to the next level, The Classic Evo’s tonearm tube uses a sandwich of carbon fibre and aluminium. The carbon fibre provides its usual rigidity and low mass while the aluminium delivers better overall damping. The nickel-plated counterweight is also TPE-damped, for ultra-low resonance.
Wide range of adjustment to get the best from any cartridge
Although The Classic Evo comes supplied with a high quality cartridge, that doesn’t mean that you might not want to upgrade at some point in the future. With this in mind, The Classic Evo boasts a huge range of adjustments – letting you get the very best performance from any cartridge. As well as the usual tracking weight and anti-skating adjustments, there’s also VTA (height adjustment) and azimuth (cartridge levelling).
Supplied with a quality, Moving Coil cartridge
Worth around £250 in its own right, the Ortofon Quintet Red cartridge is the ideal match for this quality turntable. MC (Moving Coil) cartridges usually offer a more precise and lifelike sound, with the natural flow of music unimpeded.
Natural sound
Taken as a whole, this immaculately designed turntable sounds superb. The design provides a powerful and dynamic sound that's typical of this type of design. Thanks to the attention paid to damping, it also has a very clean and precise balance that's a world away from similar looking, woolly-sounding decks from the past.
Easy to set-up
A great advantage of using TPE damping rather than springs between the two plinths is that you don't need specialist skills and tools to set it up. With fixed rate damping on the plinth, you're simply left to make the usual tonearm adjustments - just as you would with Pro-Ject's more basic decks.
Choice of finish
A substantial wooden casing, metal-topped plinth and deep, aluminium platter give The Classic Evo the style of a far more expensive turntable. A choice of walnut or eucalyptus wood veneer finishes makes it easy to get a Classic Evo that complements your room decor.
