Blending the finest sound with superb construction plus plentiful features, the Yamaha AS301 offers a complete package.
Putting sound first
The Yamaha A-S301 directly benefits from Yamaha's ToP-ART and ART construction, which ensures that left and right channels are perfectly symmetrical throughout the design and signal paths as short as possible. This meticulous attention to detail offers the highest precision and lowest distortion possible.
Quality construction
Complementing this circuit design is ART (Anti-Resonance and Tough) construction. Featuring a reinforced casing and damped base support to reduce mechanical vibration, it all helps improve the precision and detail of the sound. For the ultimate in audio purity, the Pure Direct switch bypasses the tone and balance controls for an even more detailed, true-to-life sound quality.
Bluetooth and digital inputs
With hi-fi systems being asked to handle more and more digital sources, Yamaha has equipped the A-S301 to cope with ease. Both optical and coaxial digital inputs are on hand to connect up your TV, CD player or other source with a digital output. Add the optional Yamaha YBA-11 Bluetooth receiver and you'll be able to effortlessly link up your smartphone, tablet or other Bluetooth equipped device, giving you simple, wireless music streaming.
Plenty of connections
In addition to the digital connections, the A-S301 comes with a wide range of other sockets. There are five line level inputs, two recording loops and a phono input for your turntable. More unusually in a stereo amplifier, there's also a subwoofer output. There are two sets of, separately switched, speaker sockets and a headphone output. A remote control that will also operate other Yamaha devices is included, too.
For an amplifier that sounds great without skimping on features, the Yamaha A-S301 deserves to be on your shortlist.

Sounds full and clean, wide dynamic range +punchy
Bought this to replace a 40 year old classic, the Yamaha A-1. The fact they're still making the same range to the same principals, albeit much updated, speaks volumes. Excellent sound after running in for 40 hours, and lots of connections both digital and analogue. And it's got a remote control - luxury!

A good value Amplifier
A little heavy on the bass but acceptable on most recordings. Volume difference when switching from pure to adjustable a bit annoying.

Well Featured
Only had it a couple of weeks but there is no doubt it is a quality "budget" amp.
Bought to replace a 38 year old Technics SU-7300 which was still going strong but was lacking a couple of features due to it's vintage. Namely a subwoofer output and a couple of digital inputs. I'd found that adding a sub to a stereo system improves the quality of music and especially movies.
With this in mind I had a look at what was on offer and came to the conclusion that the Yamaha AS family of amps had everything I was looking for, so it was just a question of which one. I chose this one as it has all the power I will need, two speaker sets, a sub out and digital ins as well as a full range of RCA connections. There are tone controls but I have left it on Pure Direct and it sounds sweet.
At the price point it picked itself. Very happy with it.

Simple, solid performer, great sound
Nothing to write home about visually (it's a black-box with a number of dials on the front) its the sound that counts. It replaced an ageing Sony receiver and immediately showed more control and detail. I've owned high end (Linn) stuff before and this could easily hold its own.
Features I needed were a phono stage and two sets of speaker outputs. The 'bungs' over the speaker outs were easy to remove to allow the use of banana plugs.
Features I didn't but which are useful include a variable "loudness" control for late-night listening. It also has optical in, USB power out, and subwoofer out but I haven't investigated those.
Minor niggle: it's quite deep in terms of size compared to other components I've owned so could be difficult to place on a rack.

Great amp if a bit bulky
Firstly I would like to thank Aaron at the Norwich store for being so helpful. I previously bought the Onkyo A9010 which would not work with my deck and after taking the amp and my deck to the store found that other amps worked fine so not a deck problem and he gratefully swapped the Onkyo for this Yamaha AS301.
Although a similar price this amp has a few extra features and the sound to my ears is better than the Onkyo. It is a large piece of kit but just fitted into my allotted space. I am very pleased with this amp so far and also very pleased with Richer Sounds for resolving the original issue to my satisfaction. Thank you.
Great amp and great service.

Old school amp
This amp is very good and capable. More so than the 'receiver' class. Don't be fooled with all the whizz-waws for an extra hundred quid. If you want 2.0 or 2.1 go old school with this lump. Fits well with other Yamaha kit. Get good speakers and try it all out in the demo room.
Don't like the knobs. Would prefer it in silver!
